Determined to prove both musical ambition and versatility, Mooji shaped ‘Double Agent’ between 2013  and  2014 as he immersed himself in Berlin’s artistic vibe. By focusing on a more song-written and improvised approach, the new Mooji sound sees the introduction of live session musicians that provide guitars, harmonicas, trumpet solos, or Mooji himself on drums. 'Double Agent' also features vocal cuts by the legendary John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters or  Lee ’Scratch’ Perry, as well as a remix of Leadbelly's 'Roberta', a classic blues balllad from 1935, delivering further elements of warmly organic and earthy traits to the new Mooji sound.

Needless to say, the international music press has eagerly embraced Mooji's shift of attention from the functionality of the decks to the creativeness of the studio lifestyle. Not all artists have the discipline and determination to make such a pair of opposite yet equally groundbreaking albums without any previous production experience. But when these important factors come together, such as in Mooji's case, the results speak for themsleves. Mooji is the eclectic alter-ego of much-lauded techno producer, Kramnik; a new production alias that explores elements of acid-jazz, dub, funk, down-tempo and blues. The sound of Mooji is trippy, intoxicating, and musically ambitious, and this September we get the first taste, with a 3 track EP.

Following the success of his debut ‘Dark Matters’ LIVE Album Mix, Kramnik moved to Berlin and immersed himself in the city’s artistic vibe. Taking his music back to basics, with a heady mix of songwriting, improvisation and live instrumentation, Mooji was born.

The 3 track EP that launches Mooji is a perfect introduction to the ambitious and genre-bending mix of styles, found on the ‘Double Agent’ album. Kicking off with a powerful statement is ‘Don’t’; an electro-indie, future classic, that delivers a forceful protest against repression in society. This powerful and intoxicating groove centres around an industrial bassline, heavy drumming, and menacing vocoders generated by Mooji himself.

After the driving intensity of ‘Don’t’, Mooji strips back the tempo on 'Medley', a dubby journey featuring vocals by Jamaica’s premier dub guru, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. A master of reinvention and re-contextualisation himself, Perry’s wise, gravely tones add depth and weight to Mooji’s dubbed out, experimental groove.

Rounding off the EP is 'So Good' is an artful blend of sexy slide-guitar effects and hypnotic vocals, by none other than blues legend, John Lee Hooker, all mixed with open strum chords into a gentle, trip-hop excursion. Mooji’s studio mastery shines through as he layers multiple effects, adding depth to this chilled and bluesy trip.

The ‘Double Agent EP’ is a welcoming first taste of Mooji, showcasing an artist in evolution; an organic and earthy sound, masterfully bridging the gap between electronic production and live musical virtuosity. With bangers and mash flooding the scene as festival season roars on in full force, we bring to you something on the experimental side from an artist known as Mooji. The moniker represents the Spanish producer's other half, one that pushes his first alias, Kramnik, to even more innovative auditory arenas. While techno was his genre of choice, Mooji moves into the realm of acid jazz by blending elements from across the soundscape into a cohesive whole, known as his forthcoming Double Agent EP.

Dropping in July, the release features three tracks: "Dont", which listeners already have been enjoying, "So Good", and today's work, "Medley". As soon as you press play, the track transports you to a smoke-filled room, where twangy melodies and laid back vibes pervade the atmosphere. It's a track to get lost in, one that Mooji has specially picked as introduction to Double Agent album, releasing later this year after the same-named EP. Mooji himself writes:

"I've never made anything dubby before, so I thought this album was a good opportunity to give it a go. In Double Agent I try to play with different genres, so this is the only track with a dubby feel, but I think it's one of my favorites on the album. I thought it would be cool to have Lee Perry in there, so now you hear him speaking about his musical origins. I hope this won't be my last dubby track ever!"
