As we move into the spring & summer season, we're super excited to welcome HE TOLD ME to ICONYC One with his brand new 'Angel Dust EP' featuring two epic remixes from BOHO & Carbon.

We kick things off with the title track 'Angel Dust' which features an amalgamation of smooth bass tones, subtle drum programming, a cleverly chopped samples and intricately weaved chord progressions, building to an energy driven breakdown before rebuilding the elements to an unrelenting crescendo of thumping synth licks, chord stabs and an ever-warped bassline.

Angel Dust get the remix treatment from none other than 'Jannowitz Bademeister' and all-round top guy BOHO; who delivers a stripped back affair, utilizing a hypnotizing drum groove as the basis of the track underpinned by a staccato rhythm that pushes its way to the breakdown of breaks before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect. Fantastic stuff!

With 'Dark Harbor' HE TOLD ME delivers an outstanding track that starts to delve into deeper territory, which sees fused chord hits, underpinned by the HE TOLD ME's trademark bass patterns, before all manner of varied melodies weave in and out of the stereo field; proving the HTM's superb production chops and diverse musical tapestry.

Last but not least we welcome Carbon to close out the release in style, with his remix of 'Dark Harbor'. Carbon showcases clever programming to create a cunning groove, which really augments the flow of the track. Carbon shows his love for melodic and deep FX, which are oozing of coolness and are accentuated by the driving minimal feel. Something like a silky blanket of sonic spheres, which wrap you into an alluring soundscape but kick you in the marbles at the same time. Classy stuff!

HE TOLD ME is a lovely mind-bending collection of tracks that are wrapped in a technoid blanket of driving sounds for the underground loving sound aficionado. We are extremely happy to once again be bringing you a high-quality ICONYC One release that was made from the heart and for the whole universe to enjoy. Keep on dancing!!

Next up on the evolving Desert Hearts Black imprint is a two track collaboration EP from Perspectives label head Darin Epsilon, and powerhouse producer Marc DePulse.  Both of these German based artists are well known for their massively diverse releases, constantly leaving their mark on the top labels all around the world.  This being their first time on the LA based Desert Hearts Black label, both tracks reflect the vision beautifully, drawing on dark and driving energy built for a packed dance floor. 

The duo begin their collaboration with “Commodora,” an Indie charged tune layered with haunting melody and massive energy.  Momentary breaks into descending, retro melodies make way for massive moments of groove and intensity.  Impressive power and dynamics in this one, as these two show once again how much range they possess in curating proper progressive, full of attitude.  Big debut track from this pair, and one that truly sets the tone for their work together.  

The B-side, titled “Lunapolis,” hits the ground running with incredible energy and groove in the drums, twisted emotion pouring out of the synth work, and a beautiful bridge between the late night heaviness and uplifting euphoria of the early morning.  Darin and Marc truly found the sweet spot of their individual production strengths together on this one,  landing in a powerful ride that is set to lock in anyone within earshot.  The driving melody is pure class, pulling into the depths as if experiencing the climactic moment of a hero's quest. 

Both Darin and Marc have inspired the DH Black crew with their constant production quality, and this debut EP welcomes them into the always expanding family.

Terence Fixmer - Depth Charged
Over the past two decades, French producer and live performer, Terence Fixmer, has continued to evolve as an artist while maintaining his influential stance in international techno culture. With his last solo album, Comedy of Menace, already five years behind us, his continuous evolution has led him to produce his most introspective album yet. With this 10-piece composition Fixmer is able to tell a story from start to finish, with powerful, deep, dark, pulsating tones that are essential to his musical approach.

Depth Charged is a complete concept as Fixmer’s track arrangement takes the audience through various emotions illustrating how there is more to darkness than the dance floor. Beginning with a slow but heavy bassline, “Ellipse” acts as a perfect introduction setting the attitude for the album. “Fleeting Beauty” brings us fluttering chords amidst a serpentine drone, while the rolling bass of “Unforeseen” sends you into a trancelike state. “Purity” distracts the listener with its raw analog warmth filled with extraterrestrial energy. “Inside of Me,” exclusively selected by Marcel Dettmann for his Fabric 77 mix, followed by “Outside of Me” are both very dark tracks, filled with atmospheric suspense and quaking rhythms. “Beyond” is a pure exemplary of Fixmer’s signature style with an infectious progression sending anyone to the dance floor as “Pallid Light” follows its footsteps filling a bit more radiance into a modern techno sound. “Thoughts” shows another emotion of the album with deeper dub-like sonorities leading to the final track.

Concluding the odyssey is “Elevation,” the most melodic track of the album, beautifully deep, undulating and atmospheric, it is a breath of fresh air that brings one back to reality. Fixmer’s productions have drawn the attention to stimulate individuals in other artistic mediums, as the track was an exclusive selection of Raf Simons to showcase his works for Dior at the CFDA-Awards. Raf has been a very big supporter of Fixmer’s work since his first album in 2001, Muscle Machine.

Passionate of profound mystifying tones that rise and fall, Depth Charged is the epitome of unique expressiveness for Terence Fixmer. With darkness as a companion, each track has come from deep inside the soul; uncompromised soundscapes that promote taking risks.
