Over the past 8 years or so we have had, along with Theo Parrish, the honour of playing the monthly residencies at a small basement club in Shoreditch, London with an impeccable sound system. After 20 years of operation, it was time to move on and close the doors on a place that has a lot to answer for in shaping modern club culture. To say this space along with the owner Ade’s singular vision was fundamental in our personal musical formation would be a complete understatement. 
 
On the day of their closing, manager Charlotte asked us if we’d put the system through its paces for the last time that the club would be open to the public. We set about packing the anthems from our respective residencies and on the night once the people were through the doors played 2 records in turn for the rest of the dance. We included tracks of our own and of friends that were made with that place in mind. Records like Daphni - Ye Ye and Four Tet - Pinnacles were made to first be played at Kieran’s nights there, and the Floating Points - Vacuum EP was born out of the CD-R night at the club, and its launch party was the trigger for Sam’s monthly residency.
 
We set this recording up just before the start of the night and unfortunately it distorts in places, but we make no apology for how joyfully noisy people get! The vibe in the room this night was typical of the club on any given night and we hope this recording captures just a fraction of the spirit of a Plastic People night.
 
A massive thank you from us to everyone that has come down to the nights over the years and supported our music there. We are truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale. We also thank the bosses Charlotte Kepel and Ade Fakile for inviting us to the club and having faith in us over  these years! All the best for the future!

Slime is proud to present the second installment in its Future Sound of Garage series.

The first volume was an unparalleled success for the label, debuting at #1 in the Juno Download UKG Album Chart and remaining there for the five months following, with the retailer stating “this collection neatly joins the dots between post dubstep bass music, dark house and garage with a vision that will still sound sharp in years to come.” The ten track compilation received huge support across the garage DJ community with substantial airplay on Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM and Captial Xtra, as well as being exemplified by Beatport as the reason Slime is “one of the most substantive, interesting labels around”.

For the 2015 edition, the imprint has expanded its ambitions and compiled 28 exclusive tracks that cover the full spectrum of the sound from some of the leading lights in the new wave of garage producers from around the world. Today for the 43rd mix in our guest mix series we have LA based edit maestro 'Luxxury' weighing in with a slow edits mixtape to soundtrack your sunsets until the summer winds down. There's a very familiar feeling to this mix indeed as Luxxury puts his laid back touch on artists like 'The Doors', 'Paul Simon', 'Tears For Fears', 'Dolly Parton'and the list just goes on. It's a really interesting to hear his approach to revitalising something you already know so well and we think he manages to put his own voice in there.

A mixtape with an hour’s worth of just-slightly-north of 100bpm edits, designed for a sly 3am skinny dip in the rooftop pool at the hotel. Take off your clothes and those of a close friend, lover, or admirer; put on those white bathrobes (which are NOT free for you take home with you, btw); and try and contain your giddy giggles as you take the elevator to the top floor. Do what you need to do to convince the poolside bartender to let you slip this mix on the soundsystem as he leaves you to enjoy a slow, delicious moonlight swim.

French producer Jean Tonique wants to have fun. In fact, it's pretty much his raison d'etre. Live and behind the decks, Jean Tonique wants to move the crowd, to get those bodies shaking.

New album 'Well Mannered Frivolity' is pretty much a mission statement, with the producer sluicing together disco, the French house lineage, and so much more. A delectable, delicious achievement, Jean Tonique adds a fresh pop touch that makes these underground tropes completely accessible. Completing a new mix for Clash readers, Jean Tonique opens with some party-starters, including Kaytranada's titanic edit of TLC's classic R&B rump-shaker 'Flippin On You'. Matching Hll & Oates against Shalamar, the French producer dives back into the underground with a series of edits, including his own take on an Idris Muhammad classic. Just the sort of thing we need to shake off those Monday blues, then.
