Moon Boots has revealed that the mesmeric final single off his upcoming album ‘Ride Away’ will land February 17. ‘Wrong Note’ features Norwegian avant-pop vocalist/songwriter Ora The Molecule (Nora Schjelderup), whose recent 2021 album saw acclaim from the likes of Clash, NME, and KCRW. A characteristic blend of high-energy house and funk, ‘Wrong Note’ explores the push and pull of a flirtatious but tempestuous relationship: “Oh my god you look so fine / In that suit with a poisonous mind”.

The album ‘Ride Away’ follows in the footsteps of Moon Boots’s debut ‘First Landing’ (2017) and sophomore album ‘Bimini Road’ (2019). With an impressive catalogue atypical of the dance world, Dougherty’s third album represents both his tenacity and evolution as a producer and songwriter. The writing process was met with many difficult but rewarding experiences; creative bursts were balanced with instances of anxiety and self-doubt, yet Dougherty found the music writing process invigorating and cites his wife’s continual support and incoming firstborn daughter as encouraging him to move forward. Of course, more time in the studio allowed Dougherty to experiment with new creative processes (and mind-altering methods) over the course of the album’s formation:

“Creating my new album Ride Away helped keep me going through unsteady times and joyous times. This album is about love and connection and being there for each other. My intention is for people to feel free when they hear this album, to get recharged, to be stimulated by something they’ve never heard before.”

Featuring a swathe of colourful vocalists including the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Dope Earth Alien, and Nic Hanson, ‘Ride Away’ celebrates Dougherty’s longstanding affinity for collaboration, fun effervescent songwriting, and dance-focused production. Other international artists on the album include French singer Praa and Norwegian band Ora The Molecule, whilst longtime collaborators Ross Clark (St. Lucia) and Steven Klavier feature as writers and instrumentalists on the record, rounding out a global ensemble of incredible talent.

Having accrued well over 100 million streams on Spotify alone, and having been championed by the likes of Annie Mac, Diplo, Danny Howard, and The Blessed Madonna, Moon Boots has established himself as a trailblazer of R&B-infused dance music. Anjunadeep is excited to welcome back Moon Boots (Pete Dougherty) for his playful new single ‘Come Back Around’ - the first taste of a third studio album rumoured for an early 2023 release.

A collaboration with lead vocalist Clementine Creevy of LA rock band Cherry Glazerr, ‘Come Back Around’ tells the story of a nostalgic lover playfully calling their crush back to them. A winning combination of funked-out melodies, fast-paced breaks, and Creevy’s cheeky vocal, ‘Come Back Around’ signals a strong return for Moon Boots to Anjunadeep following two exceptional albums - Bimini Road and First Landing - which have accrued over 101 million streams. In an unlikely yet colourful collaboration, Creevy electrifies Dougherty’s arrangement, resulting in a catchy single that straddles the worlds of pop, indie, and dance. On the collab, Dougherty says:

“I got in touch with Clem after hearing her on tracks with Cherry Glazerr and I was immediately drawn to her voice - she has these amazing, gentle melodies, but sings them with a rawness that grabs you. We got together late last Spring when she happened to be in NYC, and we wrote the song in 2 creative sessions. This is the mark of the next musical chapter for me and I hope everyone enjoys it!"

Moon Boots’ latest with Cherry Glazerr demonstrates his capacity to experiment and have fun. The LA-based rock band has seen great success on the indie circuit, being championed by Pitchfork, NME, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and DIY magazine, and most recently supporting Alt J, Portugal. The Man and Jack White on their North American Tours. 

The single is accompanied with a lively music video filmed at Coney Island, featuring Dougherty and Creevy. Directed by Kenneth Bachor, the video is colourful and carefree, embodying the track’s flirtatious nature. On the collaboration and music video, lead singer Clem said:

“Pete cracks me up. He’s such a funny dude and I really love how he made this song so uplifting, and yet groovy and soulful at the same time. He has a vibrant spirit. We went to Coney Island to shoot the video and it was my first time there, so I was dancing like a little crazy woman just galavanting around the boardwalk blasting our song. My favourite moment was Ken, Pete and I squeezing ourselves into the teacups ride for the last shot- three grown adults in the tea cups were kind of insane but beautiful.”

Exceptionally talented keyboardist, DJ and producer Moon Boots (Peter Dougherty) has revealed his third studio album ‘Ride Away’. The ten-track LP will land on March 17th on Anjunadeep. The first single, ‘Hot Minute’ featuring Black Gatsby, is out today.

Written and produced over a nearly two-year period beginning in early 2021, ‘Ride Away’ contains themes of love, companionship, and personal exploration. Hauling in a crate’s worth of musical influences, Moon Boots has imbued ‘Ride Away’ with his characteristic blend of soul, disco, and house music, whilst also introducing the sounds of synthpop, breakbeats, and psychedelica. Marrying these eclectic styles is part and parcel of Moon Boots’ idiosyncratic sensibility, honed through years of living and DJing in Chicago, the birthplace of house music, and in the musical melting pot of Brooklyn.

‘Hot Minute’ is the first single and features the vocals of longtime collaborator Black Gatsby. With a sassy chorus that echoes Anderson .Paak and Sylvester with a gospel-inflected breakdown, ‘Hot Minute’ shows off the full range of Black Gatsby’s talents and his unique musical rapport with Moon Boots. This bop is a tantalising taste of what Dougherty has been up to in the studio.

Moon Boots (Pete Dougherty) has reconnected with longtime collaborator Nic Hanson on exciting new single ‘Take Me To Your Body’.

A bright, seductive house jam with echoes of the Neptunes and New Jack Swing", ’Take Me To Your Body’ is reminiscent of balearic styles in its warm chords and airy staccato synths. Playful and fun, the track is accompanied by Hanson's pitch-perfect delivery, singing flirtatious lyrics like "All I want is to feel / The kind of loving that's for real / So baby let me whisper in your ear”. 

The track follows recent singles ‘Hot Minute’ featuring Black Gatsby and ‘Come Back Around’ featuring Cherry Glazerr, both of which saw extensive support on KCRW, with the latter named ‘Coldest Record’ on BBC Radio 1 and supported by the likes of Triple J, and SiriusXM. All three tracks will feature on Moon Boots’ forthcoming third studio album ‘Ride Away’, out March 17th 2023, which is available for vinyl pre-order now.

A Brooklyn native, Dougherty became obsessed with electronic music during his teenage years. Following a childhood spent learning piano, he soon discovered synthesisers, hip-hop and the underground techno scene. Shortly after leaving Princeton University, he relocated to Chicago, where he DJ'd, worked on original music, and played in a touring synth-pop trio. Whilst performing and absorbing new sounds, he was also at work on original tracks, blending the influences of French house, jazz, minimalism, soul and other discoveries.

Originally from Philadelphia, Nic Hanson is a 27-year-old singer, songwriter, rapper and multi-instrumentalist now living in London. A hugely talented charismatic who has developed an international following on Instagram and TikTok by singing in dozens of languages, Hanson is no stranger to working with Moon Boots, having has previously collaborated on ‘Keep The Faith’ and ‘Clear’, tracks that have racked up over 18 million combined Spotify streams.

His third scintillating single release in quick succession, Moon Boots’ ‘Take Me To Your Body’ is certain to be a staple in his as his multiple upcoming DJ sets at iconic venues likes the Hollywood Palladium, Elsewhere NYC, and Printworks London, and his live album tour to be announced next year.
