What started as a quarantine bedroom project turned into an unforgettable journey to west Texas for San Diego artist moondaddy. Multi-instrumentalist Cara Potiker dreamt up moondaddy as a way to escape the crippling existential dread that was plaguing us all during the 2020 lockdown. She became obsessed with analog equipment and tangible audio  formats.  The only activity that felt safe was crate digging at local  record stores. It inspired her to invest in a record lathe and tape deck to make physical demos. Eventually, Cara discovered El Paso Texas based Manuel Calderon “aka” El Cosmophonico on the back of her favorite record. She decided to hand over her demos for professional mixing. The two formed a fast musical connection and decided to cut a full album at Sonic Ranch, a pecan orchard and residential recording studio in Tornillo, Texas. Calderon and Potiker were joined by several talented local El Paso and Ciudad Juárez artists that contributed richness and depth to every soundscape. Pulling from influences from 1970’s glam rock to 90’s shoegaze, “Poet Lies” is a reverb soaked, shimmering, fever dream of a record.

Following up their *very* well-received 2021 self-titled debut album, Chime School are back with more perfect pop, this time on the most pop of formats, the 7" single. "Coming To Your Town" was recorded while sick with COVID and rather fittingly is a feverish attempt to describe the reactionary political moment that seemed to infect the Bay Area during the pandemic. Leave it to Chime School to pen a classic 12-string jangle pop tune about the breakdown of civil society. It's not all cats and motorbikes chez Chime School! On the flip side we have the band's lovely Brighter/Field Mice-esque take of Buzzcocks' "Love You More." Originally released on the Oakland Weekender Buzzcocks covers cassette, it's available on vinyl here for the first time.

Over the course of two well-received albums and numerous singles and compilation appearances, Jeanines have captured the ears of discerning listeners with a sound that recalls a diverse swathe of pop history, from 60s folk-pop and girl-group tunes to 80s DIY pop to solid gold 90s touchstones like The Aislers Set, The Cat's Miaow and the post-Black Tambourine bands of Pam Berry.

Now they're back with their first new tunes since 2022's "Don't Wait For A Sign" and the hits just keep on coming. "Each Day" is moody jangler that delivers melodic and emotional heft that belies its brief 1:43 length. Destined for 1,000 indiepop mixtapes, it's exactly the kind of song that the 7" was invented for. "What The Echoes Say" is a strummy delight, showcasing Alicia Jeanine's lovely vocal harmonies to maximum effect. "Tilt In Your Eye" wraps up this ace single -- it was Jeanines' contribution to Where It's At Is Where You Are's ace 2019 compilation "The Moon And Back" and appears here on vinyl for the first time.

“Seneca Village," a musical set in 1855 that dramatizes the story of a 19th-century settlement in what is now Central Park. This community, established in 1825, was home to approximately 300 residents, including 200 free African Americans and 100 Irish immigrants, living together harmoniously.

Sure This Time

"Friday Night Zoom Blues" is a humorous, relatable acoustic blues track about the ultimate work-from-home betrayal: thinking you've escaped the week with a few drinks in hand, only to get dragged into an unexpected Zoom meeting on Friday night. With self-deprecating lyrics capturing slurred responses, half-hearted nods to PowerPoint slides, and silent prayers that Monday won't bring consequences, it's a lighthearted anthem for anyone who's blurred the line between "quittin' time" and "just one more call." Perfect for laughing (or cringing) at the loss of work-life boundaries.
