South London Jazz Rap group Summers Sons are blessing us with new single 'Nostalgia Pt. 1'. It's the title track from their forthcoming third album for Melting Pot Music. Nostalgia is an coming of age rap album from a 90s baby perspective. Brothers Turt (rap) and Slim (production) excite with an updated and matured sound. The Nostalgia project is a classic in the making featuring longtime friend and musical partner C.Tappin, altenative R&B sensation KeepVibesNear and MC/community activist Eerf Evil.

Since signing with Melting Pot Music in 2018, Summers Sons have released two albums plus various EPs, a beat tape and a collabo project with Twit One as Syrup. They are part of The Silhouettes Project (alongside Enny, Kofi Stone, Bel Cobain, Manic MC, Lex Amor and more) and kicked off their own label Lightworks earlier this year. Summers Sons have accumulated over 27 million streams and are regularly featured in prominent playlists like Jazz Rap, Butter, AlternaRap and Jazz Vibes. For malombo drummer Thabang Tabane, rhythms bear no nationality and heed no gatekeepers. His career up to this point has cast him as a sought after hand drummer in South Africa, collaborating with masters of the country's contemporary and indigenous musical idioms.

While the contemporary and indigenous might be thought of as mutually exclusive, the very core of Tabane's musical precepts serve to counter that antiquated notion. 

His second single, Richard, titled after Cameroonian bass player Richard Bona, is a driving slice of updated malombo. A truncated, dubby bassline provides the footing for a nimble, reprised riff that meets its comeuppance in the song's climactic breakdown. Vocally, Tabane inserts himself in the song's meter, teasing out its melodic contours and later decoding its guitar phrases into lyrics about the state of black life in his country. 

As for the title, Richard Bona is a philosophical kindred spirit, that space where the elements and the environment are both the music and the inspiration.

The single, Richard, drops digitally on Friday, the 31st of August 2018.

The album, Matjale, drops digitally and on CD on the 14th of September 2018, with the vinyl coming out during the course of October 2018. Preorder available at https://thabangtabane.bandcamp.com/album/matjale
