From forthcoming 12" LP 'New World' - Out October 1st 

New World is the fourth album from Nipaluna (Tasmania) via Meanjin (Brisbane) based artist Scraps. Over the past ten years Scraps has proven to be one of the largest unsung heroes in the Australian music underground. Her sound draws links between 80s and 90s synth pop and club music whilst remaining firmly set in the contemporary Australian underground. ‘New World’ is the follow up to 2016’s highly regarded “TTNIK” - New World takes us deeper into her infectious universe of abstracted wave classics, free form humour and contagious song writing. These are charming pop songs with a certain indistinguishable glow floating around them. This album sees Scraps distilling what we love about her sound even further to produce one of her most realized albums to date.

A mix known as "Aun Aprendo," titled after the Francisco Goya drawing of the same name
Translated, the title means "I Am Still Learning," and depicts the elderly Goya (who would pass away two years later) with two walking sticks

The mix ends with a reading of a short story written by artist Irena Haiduk and read by art historian Darby English, from Haiduk's collection of writing entitled, "All Classifications Will Lose Their Grip," first presented at the Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen. The story recounts the creation of portraits for the Yugoslavian Dinar's hyperinflating currency in the early 1990s.

“It seems unlikely that Where To Now Records would want to release something made in a shack on a river conservation property outside Melbourne Victoria. I've attempted to make the music that I hear in the dance clubs I dream about. I've never really been to a dance club.. but I'm trying to be sophisticated.”

Club music reimagined in an off grid Australian floodplain, of course this is something we’d want to release. Thankfully the accompanying music to the above sentence submitted by Timothy Brown aka TKB is every bit as intriguing as you might hope. ‘Dream Nightclub’ is a truly downbeat and dubbed journey through murky and swamped fourth world bass ambience, and longing, freeform minimal electronics.

TKB’s drum programming throughout is primitive, minimal, and unnervingly off kilter - shuffling its way through a world which waits… There’s a palpable sense of spirituality lurking low level below Timothy’s electronic works, where ambient scapes move from the deeply minimal, to the lush sublime, to the dense and agitated seamlessly, all underpinned with this submerged experimentalism - conversing with the still oddities which lurk the swamps and plains that consume Timothy’s day to day.

“The floodplain below my house is full at the moment. It's serene with the mountains behind, but as soon as you step outside the air is throbbing with the sound of frogs…”

Seeming to draw influence from the minimal pulse of Jan Jelinek, the fourth world ambience of Jon Hassel, and the open Dub experimentalism of Early On-U-Sound acts like The Missing Brazilians and African Head Charge, TKB has channeled these experimental strands into something truly dreamlike - a submerged trip which is shrouded in a dense fog…

This Project was conceived through the correspondence of Vox Populi’s Axel Kyrou and Jim Strong. It serves to commemorate the 30th anniversaries of both the founding of the Philadelphia art collective, Vox Populi Gallery in 1988 and the release of Half Dead Ganja Music, the seminal 1987 album by Vox Populi!. Vox Populi! Emerged out of the eighties Industrial Underground in Paris. The Group’s mercurial experimentation was deeply influenced by Spirituality and Surrealism. They were further set apart for the incorporation of Folk Instrumentation and Influences derived from the diverse origins of the bands members. 
The selections included on “Half Alive Ganja Music” characteristically range all over the map from the Lush Pop Psychedelia of the lead single “Ney” to the albums closer, a Sprawling Live Outtake which Ebbs and Flows between the Bubbling electronics of half formed Art Song Crescendo through long passages of Ritual tinged Improvisation. Both Tracks, Comprise the 5 never before released recordings which make this (double) anniversary collection so special.
