I wrote this song in praise of individuality. About the feeling of being put inside a box. Politically and artistically.

Nuanced views are rarely encouraged these days. The world is messy and complex. To see no flaws in oneself and flaws-only in everyone else seems to be a recipe for miscommunication. It replaces thinking and listening with walls and hardline ideologies.


As a musician I always had a hard time working inside one genre. I don’t see a big difference between electronic music, Middle-Eastern music and soul. Genres and ideas need to be allowed to be mixed and matched freely, that's how they evolve. I think most people can relate to this feeling, of not wanting to be put in a box and have a chance to create their own "language".

There's only so much time to live a meaningful life. And we spend a lot of it looking for something or someone to blame for our suffering and misfortunes. Meanwhile, real freedom is letting most of that stuff go and realizing we all mess everything up together, I find hope and comfort in that. 

I wrote the song after seeing the 2014 movie Leviathan. At some point during the film someone says "everything is everyone's fault". The movie isn't a comedy but that one sentence made me laugh and it stuck with me. I wrote this song the next day and it really came out as more of a prayer/mantra than a song.

I wrote the verse for this song a couple of years ago during a period of frustration. I had a record deal that wasn't working out, I felt isolated and wasn't feeling very inspired to write or compose much. That resulted in a lot of pent up anger. One night out of some type of manic state I started writing the text for this song. It pretty much came out with the music attached to it. The writing felt like praying, asking to be shown a way out. 

The chorus was written about a year later, It came from a more humorous place, trying to make sense of where my head was at at the time, but with a more light hearted approach. It's funny when songs work like that, when you need to be two different people to write a verse and a chorus.

Around the same time I moved to the US, global warming became a louder and more frequent topic of discussion. I noticed that many of the panicked conversations I had about it felt like a secret wish for an irreversible cataclysmic (and dare I say - cathartic) event to finally put an end to the anticipatory dread.

"The Flood" is how I coped with this fear and accepted how little control most of us have on an existential, global scale. I found comfort in expressing my fear (of being washed away) into a song that I hope brings comfort to others.

I saw Shelley Duvall interviewed by Dr. Phil - it wasn't easy to watch. I felt both sad and angry with such a seemingly callous exploitation. So as a bit of a defense mechanism I decided to flip the whole thing on its head and imagine that Shelley never stopped being Wendy from “The Shining”. 

The song starts with Shelley as Wendy and morphs into a world where reality and fiction are blurred, and events from movies become real and personal occurrences in our lives.

This song condenses all my feelings about the current culture (be it politics, social media or even the music world) into a conversation between an optimistic and pessimistic version of myself. 

In the song, and in real life too, I oscillate between sarcasm and earnestness; hopeful and cynical; and with any luck I'll land somewhere in between.

This song is about the moments we catch ourselves hypocritically getting angry or self righteous in order to protect ourselves from feeling sad or depressed.

Whether it's the relationship a person has with themselves, with a friend, with their idols, or with how we cope with the ugliness of our political systems - these short glimpses of unflattering truths about ourselves are important and cathartic.

I listened to and loved Eviatar Banai’s music way before I was ever able to make music myself. I learned playing guitar learning the chords for his songs. I had a blast trying to service his writing and get a chance to live in it.

“Come And Go” is a song about inspiration, both the search for it and the struggle to stay open to it. 
Although being inspired is an elevating sensation, there’s also a certain darkness around it, maybe it’s the fear of the inspiration threatening to leave or maybe it’s the fear it’ll never end? 
I feel a parental responsibility over my music, I wanna take good and careful care of the songs that show up in my head. In that sense inspiration is like birth, all of a sudden something you never laid your eyes on is right in front of you and your willingness to take care of it rebirths you and for a moment you are renewed.

I started writing this song with no idea what it’s about, just playing with word placement, 

I’m -> Killing -> Time
Time is -> Killing -> Me

The subject matter (Time) creeped up on me. I think it’s pretty fitting, time always creeps up on you. 

I started looking for something that I felt was the antithesis of what time passage feels like to me and I figure it was love. A sexual encounter, a laugh or even the simple act of looking, not glancing or staring but truly looking at someone you love and taking your time to appreciate what they are to you, is the closest thing I know to a timeless experience. Past, present and future collide and if you’re lucky you get to enjoy that timeless sensation for exactly the right amount of time and then go back to counting days.

In that sense, “Killing Time” is about seeing life as both an endless looming countdown of days and at the same time the accumulation of days you get to spend with loved ones. It wasn’t intentional but it seems even more relevant during quarantine.

Killing Time

Frozen Suns is a song about Waiting but I didn’t realize it at first. I was playing with words over a melody I borrowed from a Frideric Handel aria. The lyrical idea was to write about the Moon loving the Sun and the Sun, being too preoccupied with the meaning of life, doesn’t notice the Moon’s love. I wrote it pretty quickly and immediately tried to record it, but I felt I wasn’t doing it justice. Four years and a couple different versions later I landed on this production that felt right (and I’m reserving the option to do it over again). The four years it took to get this song right was the message the song was trying to send me - “Wait - it’ll come, the Sun will defrost”.
