The 20th ATLANT release continues our ethos of bringing you fresh and exciting sounds from around the world. ATL020 provides undeniable evidence of a flourishing Swiss scene, as the supremely talented Night Talk drops an exhilarating two tracker.

‘Moran’ catches your attention immediately though an addictive jagged theme. Ever shifting beats create a sense of drama as Night Talk cranks up the tension through subtle shifts, before a swirling hypnotic synth enters. The extended breakdown stirs a heightened sense of anticipation before the full power of Moran is unleashed on a captivated audience for the final movement. Trust us, this one works !

The second half of this EP centres around the poem ‘To A Skylark’ by philosophical poet and visionary Shelley. Starting with a minimal pulsing beat and singular synth line the narrative enters as ‘Higher still and higher from the earth thou springest higher’ the theme soars upwards - its melody floating overhead. The mood is accentuated by echoed percussives, sweeping arp flourishes and sumptuous stirring lines, all beautifully brought together with taste and elegance.

This EP has already received heavyweight support from Solomon (live) and on John Digweed’s long running groundbreaking Transitions show. This is alongside the BOg seal of approval from his recent tour of Australasia and the depths of a German forrest. We sincerely hope our ATLANT family enjoys this music as much as we do.

NIGHT TALK

Lukas Horst, better known by his stage name ‚Night Talk‘ is a electronic music producer and DJ from Switzerland. The Night Talk project combines atmospheres, elements of classic house, techno and synthesizers into a unique futuristic soundscape. His label AYM has featuring collaborations and remixes by Lake People, Shiffer and Translucent. A Diynamic Music release saw Night Talk introduced to a larger audience as Solomun playing Night Talk tracks at festivals and in his famous Boiler Room set. Night Talk has since released material on Moodmusic, MoBlack, Definition:Music and of course AYM.

The originals of the twelfth EP of the label are provided by a really talented artist from the UK, called His. Creator. The three detailed and well balanced originals, of which ‘Nightshift’ is the title track, are accompanied by a remix of the Hungarian Justrice.

The first track, ‘Nocturnal Eye’, already starts off with a lot of tension and sets the tone. The track has a compelling build-up towards the middle part of the track. Afterwards it slowly comes down without getting boring once, all guided by what we could name a signature piano synth. 

The title track, ‘Nightshift’, will make you fly for sure. The lead will bring you to some higher atmospheres, again guided by this piano synth. The track has an outstanding and surprising arrangement, which is mainly noticeable in the break, from which the lead rises again. 

REM, is probably the most powerful track of the EP with the heaviest lower end of the four. On the lower end a cutting synth is floating, which makes the full composition suitable for the dancefloor.

At Justrice’s interpretation of REM, he managed to bring in a lot of groove with his signature and remarkable percussion. The extended break gives the track some more tension, nevertheless it still stays very suitable for the dancefloor, maybe even more. The remix brings us to the end of a strong and well composed EP.

Nightshift EP

PREMIERE : His. Creator - REM (Original Mix)[Infinite Depth]

Davide Squillace kick starts 2020 with a release on his label This And That Lab from Greek artist Atsou who has also featured on other imprints such as Kindisch.

Atsou is also part of the Madorasindahouse crew and has also featured tracks on his own label Madorasindahouse Records that showcases a sound blending tribal chants and vibrant percussion to create melodic house with an Afro influence.

In 2019, Atsou featured a solo track on one of This And That Lab’s mixed artist EP’s, but this time he is back with a solo EP consisting of three original tracks.

“Awubone” opens the release with its glitchy synth stabs and brooding atmosphere that underpins aboriginal chants. Epic and full of drama, this charismatic cut of melodic house sets the scene for what’s to come on the EP.

Track two “Ghosts” gets deeper and more atmospheric. With a focus on the percussion, there is an ethereal atmosphere that shrouds the track in mystery. Spacious and full of soothing textures, the jovial melodies of this cut have a heart-warming excitement that’s perfect for enrapturing the dance floor.

“Storm Out” closes the release with its sensual sound that’s both smooth and mesmerising. Warm and welcoming, its melodies skip and jump between the percussion whilst the pads effortlessly float like a morning breeze.
