Morgan Benjamin draws from a diverse set of inspirations to craft music that pays homage to classic sounds of the past, while incorporating the cutting edge of underground dance. His influences are vast, including MK, the Neptunes, New Order, Artful Dodger-era UK garage, 90's hip hop and R&B, Radiohead, Bay Area mobb music, and J. Dilla. Morgan studied classical piano and jazz saxophone through high school. His production career truly took off, however, in middle school when he attempted to make rudimentary remixes combining a tape recorder, a Discman, and a Walkman to combine the acapellas and instrumentals lifted from singles bought from the Wherehouse. This inspired him to take a "computers and music" course in high school where he learned to combine awful Midi renditions of Dr. Dre and the Luniz. He progressed to composing instrumental hip hop and downtempo electronica in college after receiving his first copies of Fruity Loops and Reason and beginning to amass a collection of chillout and deep house albums. Music remained a casual hobby until Morgan began DJ’ing in public while attending graduate school in Chicago, playing at venues including Boardroom and the Art Institute of Chicago. He is now based in San Francisco and has been slowly building his reputation through his TMFP parties in SF with DJ Fried and his annual sets at Eat Real in Oakland.
