"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

Fortsetzung der Geschichte von deep story 140

Wir erkunden weiter die Räumlichkeiten dieses sonderbar positiven Ortes. Wir durchqueren große Hallen die von Licht durchflutet werden und passieren Korridore dessen Wände, Decken und Böden komplett aus Glas bestehen. Überall sind Personen emsig wie kleine Ameisen und alles ist in einem stetigen Fluss. In den großen Hallen gibt es Konferenzräume in den Liveübertragungen von Konzerten und Festivals aus aller Welt laufen. Überall sind großflächige futuristische Bildschirme auf denen die Stars der Szene bei ihrer Arbeit zu sehen sind. Davor sitzen Gruppen von 10 bis 30 Personen an großen Konsolen mit vielen Reglern. Das erinnert mich ein wenig an die Kontrollzentren in den Raumfahrtbehörden.
Meine Begleiter führen mich in einen der kleineren Räume, wo ich herzlich empfangen werden. Ich setze mich an das Ende eines langen Tisches und mustere mein gegenüber. Ein stattlicher Mann mit freundlichen Gesichtszügen. Seine Kleidung gleicht nicht der der anderen Personen, die mir auf dem Weg begegnet sind. Das einheitliche weiß scheint diesem Herrn wohl nicht zu liegen. Er bevorzugt eher schlichtere Grautöne, die im Einklang zu seiner Haarfarbe stehen. „Ich begrüße sich herzlich in der Zentrale von ComRa. Es freut mich, dass sie den Weg zu uns gefunden haben und wir sie in unserer Gemeinde willkommen heißen können. Wie wir in Erfahrung bringen konnten sind sie ein großer Freund der elektronischen Tanzmusik und haben auch an unseren Veranstaltungen ihre Freude gehabt. Ich glaube wir sind daher in der Lage ihnen etwas anbieten zu können, was sie sicherlich begeistern wird.“

Auch wir möchten den Freunden elektronischer Tanzmusik heute etwas anbieten, was sie sicherlich in freudige Ektase versetzen wird. Lexer hat neben der Arbeit an seinem dritten Album die Zeit gefunden für uns einen Podcast aufzunehmen. Genießt eine Stunde Wohlfühlatmosphäre mit dem Meister der Melodien.

"For the past ten years now, I’ve celebrated my birthdays by inviting all my favorite cats to play – we started off at Kater Holzig before moving to our home at Kater Blau in 2015. For the first time since it started, and for obvious reasons, 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch won’t be happening, on what would have been the tenth anniversary of the series.

I’ve been wondering for a while now how I can make up for the missed year - streams already feel a bit outdated, and you just can’t imagine the vibe of the event without actually being there, getting beautifully lost in those days and nights, hugging old friends and making new ones. You can’t even explain that feeling, so you definitely can’t live-stream it.

Instead, this year 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch will be a compilation of some of the amazing artists from the past ten years, and even some of the new faces I would have booked this year. In a way, it’s the perfect souvenir of all the nights we’ve had so far, and an idea of what to look forward to in all the nights to come at Kater Blau somewhere in the future.

The compilation will be split into two sections: Heinz Hopper and Acidbogen, reflecting the two floors of Kater Blau, each with their own special flavor and sound. The whole record is programmed the way I would schedule the artists across the two floors for my birthday, warming up at the start before things start getting more intense later on. I guess you could say it’s a concept album, in which the audience wanders into our lovely little circus on the river Spree, and experiences one of my birthdays from start to finish, split across both floors of Kater Blau.

Much like my parties and my sets, the idea is for the listener to get lost in these tracks and to experience them as a whole piece. At the end of it all you leave with a feeling that maybe, just maybe, cats & music were the answers after all. Even in times like these."
