I'm honored to have teamed up with Liquid Bloom, Gracia Maria, TAS Visuals and Gravitas Recordings to honor and celebrate the indigenous cultures of the Amazon with the release of Cielo Aya. Proceeds from this release will be going to both Futuro Nativo and Alianza Arkana. Futuro Nativa supports sustainable economic growth in indigenous Amazonian communities and Alianza Arkana is a grass-roots alliance protecting the Peruvian Amazon by supporting its people and traditions.

Savej X Liquid Bloom - Cielo Aya (feat. Gracia Maria)

I will never understand what it means to be a person of color, but I can do my best to empathize with the people who have lived under much marginalization and oppression due to their race. I want to recognize that I use samples and take inspiration from cultures all around the world to create my music. My genre is a blend of my own creativity and that of other musicians, particularly people of color, that have had a profound influence on music since the dawn of time. In particular, African people have shaped almost every genre of music known to man. I also take inspiration from Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and many other cultures to create the music that I make.

Umoja is the swahili word for Unity—meaning to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race. This song incorporates Mongolian throat sining and Senegalese vocals with trap 808s to create a really fun and high energy song. French is the Senegal national language, and there are over 30 languages spoken in Senegal. So, I chose the Swahili word Umoja for this song to declare that the music that I create is a symbol for unity across borders and across race. I never knew that throat singing and African singing could be so incredible together—and what an amazing world we live in where this is even a possibility.

All of my music, and this song in particular, is a tribute to people of color across the world who have given me the ability to use the incredible musical vocabulary and instruments from their cultures. I want to explicitly express my immense gratitude and appreciation for these people who have shared and given the rights to their music to use in my own creative process. 

I choose to use my undeniable privilege to do my best to make the world a better place for everyone around me regardless of their race or nationality. Everyday I look to see how I can be better for everyone around me and how I can serve the planet more. 

If you are a white musician I would encourage you to also recognize where your music comes from and the people that made it possible for you to create what you create. May we all continue to unify and to not let the powers that be tear us apart and make us villainize one another. With love, respect, and gratitude.

DMTuna is a track from Synchromystica's upcoming album Triptych. Featuring the incomparable Robin Jackson on the clarinet, DMTuna is the modern psychedelic epic to an ancient journey. “Solstice” spotlights Savej’s practice of the Kargyraa style of throat singing, a skill that demanded weeks of training to achieve proper vocal cord disengagement. As the Native American flute and Peruvian whistles search for “One Truth,” percussive rhythms support the binding of matter and spirit into one energy. “Eye For An I” employs entrancing trap soundscapes with an organic tribal flair. Nature comes to life in “Sirens,” as creatures who roam the jungle are dazzled by hypnotic bass tapestries. When the Sun’s path crosses the celestial equator, “Equinox” escorts wanderers towards a groovy celebratory dreamscape. Concluding the paradisiacal globe-trot, “Vilca” pays tribute to the sacred psychedelic ritual, offering one last dance in the shamanic wonderland.

Drumming and music production have always lived in separate worlds of Morillo’s musical journey. Taking a big step in tethering the two together, Morillo returns to Gravitas Recordings with his latest album, Shades of Green. During quarantine, Morillo prioritized the ability to properly record and incorporate acoustic drums into his production from his Los Angeles studio. From there, he dedicated his energy into tuning and refurbishing his drum kit, acquiring necessary recording gear, and learning engineering skills to translate it into production. The result was a fresh aesthetic diverging from strictly electronic sounds, empowering a live and more human aspect to his music. Shades of Green is a hypnotic, handmade small-batch record that dives deep into organic soundscapes to move listeners spiritually and physically.
 
“Badmon Sound” plunges into the depths of wicked acoustic territories as sirens apprise their warning. Featuring Evan Hatfield on Sitar, the two whisper deep “Secrets” into the cosmos before Meg Gardner closes the tune with original spoken word poetry. In collaboration with Canadian bass producer PRZM, “Champion Sound” is a lush excursion through funky reggae territories. Los Angeles singer Talia Bentson soon whisks listeners to an ethereal, yet dark “Dreamland.” Ticking clocks precede a royal dubby coronation in “King of Kings.” Title track “Shades of Green'' inhabits a meditative jungle, isolated from the busy metropolis. Featuring Los Angeles producer DanniG, “One$$” delivers fresh soundscapes between dominant bass waves and electrifying drum patterns. Heartfelt and zestful energy in “Rain and Mist” hydrates nature’s spirits, concluding the vibrant album.
