Laurent Garnier ist nicht nur der dritte Pariser, der Ramona in diesem Monat beehrt, sondern auch der – mit Verlaub – sagenhafteste. Im Manchester der späten Achtziger hat es den begeisterten Musikliebhaber und damaligen Gastronomie-Azubi per Zufall hinter die Plattenteller eines namenslosen Clubs verschlagen, wo er den Hunger der anwesenden Meute mit allerlei Gedöns zwischen Abba und Zappa stillen musste. Nachdem er sich dort die Hörner abgestoßen hatte, folgte der nächste Club mit besserem Musikprogramm und auch heute noch klingendem Namen.
In der Hacienda durfte Garnier neben Mike Pickering und Graeme Park an dem Soundtrack einer Stadt Teil haben, die zwischen New Order und den Happy Mondays schlichtweg in afroamerikanische Tanzmusik verliebt war. So drehten die überspannten Clubkids umhüllt von der schwarz-gelben Nuklearästhetik des Clubs, Woche für Woche Pirouetten zu Songs von Carly Simon, Jomanda, oder dem FPI Project und Tracks von Adonis, Derrick May und DJ Pierre.
Zurück in Paris und derart geschult, wollte Laurent Garnier auch Frankreich den „Summer Of Love“ bringen. Einem Club namens „Wake Up“ und seinem nicht zu bremsenden Enthusiasmus sei Dank, sollte er nicht nur dieses Vorhaben in die Tat umsetzen, sondern auf dem Label FNAC bzw. F-Com Platten veröffentlichen, Techno in Frankreich installieren, mit seinem Plattenkoffer durch die Welt reisen und schließlich mit „Electrochoc“ ein Buch veröffentlichen, von dem sich einige DJ-Autoren ein Scheibchen abschneiden könnten. Eine der letzten wirklich großen DJ-Figuren unserer Zeit, dabei grundsympathisch und zwischen Techno und King Tubby auch noch musikalisch versiert wie kaum ein zweiter DJ. Was für ein homme du métier!

A few weeks ago I did a mix with blue skies and the sun shining. Although it is still winter in Amsterdam it felt like spring time. Bright sunny rays and a small whisper of wind, it felt lovely.

Can't wait until spring and summer season, hope you feel the sun shining while listening to this one….
