Peak Time Techno Set 05/2023

Based on the sample of a coffee machine in action, this idea of what you can make of it lead me astray to a different genre. Where normally you would find a four to the floor kick drum, I made a breakbeat. Instead of a rolling baseline there is quite a bit of melody in the baselines here. It is fun to explore different sonic empires every once in a while. What do you think of the result?

Als Booking beim Kabeltrommel Event am 28.12. gab’s von mir eine 1,5-stündige Live-Performance aus Techno & House. Mit einem hybriden Setup aus Laptop und Hardware-Synthesizern hab ich ein abwechslungsreiches, tanzbares Techno-Set gespielt, in dem auch einige unreleased Tracks versteckt waren.

Die australische Künstlerin KUCKA steht für einen einzigartigen Mix aus experimentellem Pop und elektronischer Raffinesse – ihr Track "Messed Up" ist eine emotionale wie klanglich vielschichtige Perle, die unter die Haut geht. Mein Remix von "Messed Up" ist eine energiegeladene Techno-Hymne, die sich tief in die Nacht hineinschraubt. Die hypnotischen Vocals treffen auf treibende Kicks, pulsierende Synths und eine Struktur, die mit Spannung und Loslassen spielt. Die Mischung aus modernem Sounddesign und klassischen Techno-Elementen lässt Raum für Emotion, Ekstase und kollektive Bewegung – ein Track für Peak-Time-Momente genauso wie für die Afterhour.

Tin Toy Train (Chu-Chu Edit)

I am a DJ and producer and I love electronic music! Originally starting off as a drummer, I fell in love with drum machines and samplers in the 90s. As a musician and multi-instrumentalist, the minimalist approach of electronic music is my real challenge. Taking a few elements and turning them into an interesting groove spiced up with melodic stories is my goal. 

My main genres are techno and house. But beware, I have a parallel life in more laid-back electronic genres. Apart from playing as a DJ, I also play live-sets ranging from ambient to breakbeat. Four to the floor music has been with me since the beginning of the 90s and inspires me again and again. I like to keep an open-mindedness to music and the creative process, and in that, bands like The Prodigy, Beastie Boys, Portishead and Kraftwerk are among the strongest musical inspirations I can think of.

As an Ableton Certified Trainer, I give workshops for all levels of knowledge. I am also the contact person for the local Ableton User Group where we regularly exchange over the latest - and sometimes oldest - topics of music production with the Live software.
