For several years I suffered from an eternal recurrence of poor sleep so this mix is my Fantasia inspired (the 1940 version, of course :) interpretation of insomnia. 

Awoken by Chernabog summoning his minions
Wraiths whirl and swirl into a black mass of worship.
Fiery harpies play upon his palms
Their flames dance dizzying despair.

Abandoned on Bald Mountain, solitude my only companion.
Sweat-crucified for sacrifice on the inferno’s edge
Noce Oscura! I repeat psalms 
His black eyes see no mercy.

Veering over the horizon hollows out hope.
I can’t avoid peering into the void 
Where demons taunt lost souls.
His menace grins: ‘nothing will save you’. 

In a liminal space between open and shut-eye: creatio ex nihilo!
Nothing is latent, possibility brims 
This is no devil but a prophet
Blessed be Moriah this hallowed ground!

With this revelation, Ave Maria pierces the dark, banishing his retreat
Nighttime fury fuels sunrise glory, spirits evaporate into morning mist.
Hecate’s torches haunt the glow, their amber light soothes my plight 
Releasing me, she whispers: beware of false dawns, ex nihilo nihil fit.

Mosheuch is an alter ego of Ben K, an emerging DJ who has been mixing for many years and playing commercial gigs in London since the end of the pandemic. He enjoys playing deep techno- hypnotic and groovy rhythms, as well as psychedelic and ritualistic sounds- and produces electronic music, having released an album last year on the On the 5th Day label. He is a sound artist interested in hallucinatory sound experiences using spatial sound, audio illusions and hybrid sounds, as well as storytelling, and is also a researcher on altered states of consciousness and designing transcendent experiences.

This is a recording of my set played on the upstairs floor at the Fox and Badge Day of the Dead party on Fri 3rd November 2023 at the Egg club, London.

I was asked to play an ambient, atmospheric set so I curated something haunting yet euphoric; sprinkled with ritualistic sounds and siren calls; and carried by deep rhythms.

I also wanted to ensure a narrative that could navigate the audience as they dance without and journey within.

Alas, autumn approaches. But here's a mix inspired by 2018's sweltering summer to lift our spirits.

Murmurings at dawn, earth yawns.
Sky lightens; earth rubs eyes, stretches out arms. 
Sun nurses at her breast; earth suckles. 
Life awakens. 
Branches sway; breezy whispers welcome new day.
Bulbs burst, plants pop open. 
Fauna mischief worships Warrior Queen
Ruling from her chariot. 
Marching army beams banish life to shade. 
Animals play dead lions held helpless under her spell. 
Water summoned up from roots; leaves sweat obedience.
Earth cries out in baking torment; prays: punishment please end!
Relief! Red hot grip release.
Waving orange then pink goodbyes, blues turn Cadbury purple. 
Darkness provokes fear, anxious separation; come back, al is forgiven!
Luckily, split morning milk illuminates sky,
Earth sleeps in peace; stars sing lunar lullabies.

More pumping than the last summery mix, and a little darker with some spooky sounds- I had hoped to get this mix out for Halloween. The darker vibe reminded me of Berlin. Voila: an ode to Berghain!

I loved going to Portugal's Boom festival that has now been going biennially for 20 years. It's always a positive pilgrimage celebrating freedom, nature and self-expression.

I first went with friends in 2008. When we returned in 2010, we discovered the art of Android Jones (his Dharma Dragon's sits above right), as well as a secret, smaller stage- 'Tripical beach'- whose softer vibe provided respite from the main stage's full-on psy trance. For a couple of days, Tripical beach seemed to be just ours and a sprinkling of other sun worshippers. This is the slower temp set I'd play there as we sit on the shore, staring out across the beautiful water in hope of seeing the Lady of the Lake emerge with Excalibur.

This mix is the last mix's twin sister for its inspiration is also Portugal's Boom festival. Whereas the main stage played full on psytrance day and night, I preferred Groovy Beach that attracted wider talent who would play techno but with a psy twist. I always wondered: what set would I play on that stage? Well, here it is.

But the mood of the mix is also motivated by the 2020 pandemic. I wanted to respond to the feelings of lockdown as it reminded me of the Exodus story when the Israelites covered their doorposts with blood and then hid indoors as the Angel of Death passed through and delivered the final, tenth plague: death of the Egyptian firstborns. So the story for the mix has three parts: Panic spread. Death arrived. We waited...

The hero's journey has been proposed by mythologists, and especially popularised by Joseph Campbell, as a common narrative across cultures. First, the hero departs their ordinary world and, often reluctantly, follows the call of adventure helped by a mentor. Then, the hero undergoes an initiation as they cross the threshold into an unknown world where they face tasks or trials that climax in the chief ordeal that they must endure to gain some reward. Finally, the hero returns, sometimes reluctantly, back across the threshold to their ordinary world to use the reward for other people's benefit. Depth psychology provides a more spiritual interpretation, focusing on the major internal transformations that the hero experiences. I set out to structure a mix with a narrative to capture this dynamic. Hear the call; journey well.

Mosheuch (mo-shee-ukh) is Hebrew for 'the anointed one'. In the ancient Near East, olive oil was mixed with sweet smelling fragrances and psychedelic herbs to anoint kings and sanctify temples. Electronica is holy oil for modern souls.

I play deep, hypnotic techno- euphoric yet haunting, always enchanting. Enchantment derives from the Latin ‘incantare’ and ‘cantare’ to sing. Think how music and sounds can grab and put you under their spell.  

I structure my sets with coherent narratives often with Act 1 (departure & cross thresholds); Act 2 (transformation & ordeals); and Act 3 (return & catharsis), (re)introducing different sounds and moods for characters and subplots appearing along the way.
