The North Wind

As GMJ & Matter shake the foundations of the underground house scene with the continued success of the ever-more powerful Meanwhile imprint, “Mood Medicine” sees GMJ return to solo duties with a three-track EP that showcases an inimitable talent.

An artist with an enviable reputation and production portfolio, Gavin Griffin has scaled the north face of the underground dance scene with aplomb, reaching the summit with a distinctive and unique brand of progressive house that finds him one of the industry’s most in-demand producers of recent years. Able to point to a career trajectory that has seen him perform behind the decks at the likes of Amsterdam’s Club NL for Replug’s 10th anniversary event during ADE 2019, or close Melbourne’s “Rainbow Serpent” festival with his fellow countryman, collaborator and co-founder of Meanwhile, GMJ’s list of achievements grows with each passing month.

Furthermore, 2008’s debut for Open Records has gone on to see over 350 production credits form the backbone of the GMJ work ethic that has seen him land bomb after bomb on such celebrated imprints as Balance Music, Replug, Anjunadeep and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat. A steady stream of hits for Balkan Connection and Proton Music have also seen such notable highlights for the latter that include 2017’s “Sovereign Reality”, 2019’s “Catharsis” and “Mystic Sea” EPs, combined with a trio of collaborative offerings with Matter, including 2019’s highly regarded twin-track, “Interscope”. Similarly, the “Lost in Origin”, “Gauntlet” and “Eldarin” releases for Meanwhile have lit up the world of music amidst a global pandemic.

Returning to the Meanwhile with a debut solo offering, “Mood Medicine” is replete with GMJ’s passion for “deep emotive electronic music” as the title track bristles with percussive firepower before a seismic kick and bouncing, filtered bassline weaves a magical spell across the near 9-minute piece. White-noise effects build the tension as a sparkling arpeggio glitters into life at the mid-point onwards before exploding into the post-breakdown denouement with assurance.

“Precipice” oozes quality with its subterranean bassline and stereo-panned percussive groove. A delayed-motif then makes its way to the fore as subtle note changes add emotion and intrigue. Counterpoint chord progressions through textured pads continue to supply stratified layers of aural atmosphere as the track waxes and wanes with ease and dancefloor know-how.

Carrying on the theme of huge sub-bass phrasing and dynamic rhythmic prowess, “Rite of Passage” builds on the earworm motif of its predecessor by constructing a hypnotic framework that hits its zenith through a combination of soaring pads and filtered white-noise risers. A gloriously melodic breakdown provides a moment of reflection before the track hits its mark once more in the third movement with the combination of melody, rhythm and bass providing a wondrous sonic palette.

onedotsixtwo welcomes Argentina’s Juan Franco Rivera aka JFR with his beautiful composition ‘I Lost Myself’, complimented by a sparkling remix from label head, Tripswitch.

JFR is a young talent emanating from Mendoza whose rapidly-growing stable of tracks and remixes on labels including Manual Music, 3rd Avenue, Balkan Connection, and Forward Music have been gaining consistent attention and support throughout the scene. Having studied piano and guitar passionately since the age of 15 he has an intricate knowledge of melody and rhythm and uses this to great effect in his productions.

I Lost Myself is a journey of a composition, ever growing and expanding with new layers of lush melodies and textures, held together by a warm bassline, and driven forward by intricate shuffling percussive elements leading into a sublime breakdown, and further uncovering more layers with an ethereal gated vocal.

For the remix label head Tripswitch draws on his innate understanding of composition. Opening with sweeping orchestral strings that carry lush vocal elements over a deep but gentle kick and sharp yet gentle hi-hats and shakers. An infectiously mesmerising topline leads into the warmest of old school ‘Orbitalesque’ basslines which is further accentuated by celestial reverberated picked guitar flourishes.

Moshic is a globally renowned electronic music artist best known for his deep, dark, melodic, and emotional approach to progressive house. With a career spanning over two decades and more than 500 original releases, he continues to receive strong support from industry legends like Pete Tong, John Digweed, Solomun, Nicole Moudaber, Dubfire (Deep Dish), Sasha, Hernán Cattáneo, and many more. His latest tracks were recently featured by the mighty John Digweed on Bedrock Records, and he also received a special Remix from his close friend and fellow Israeli luminary Guy J, highlighting Moshic’s enduring influence and respect within the scene.
Born into a family of musicians, Moshic was surrounded by creativity from an early age. However, his musical path was deeply shaped by his time serving as a medic in the Israeli National Service at age 18—an experience that brought him face-to-face with the fragility of life and instilled in him a sense of emotional depth that would later permeate his music.
After his service, he dedicated himself entirely to electronic music—specifically progressive house, which was still under-recognized in Israel. Despite early pushback for his “dark” style, a bold move to New York City became a turning point. The city’s vibrant underground scene allowed him to fully express his vision and connect with global artists.
Moshic began releasing music under the alias Argonout, with early singles signed to the legendary Dutch label Cyber Records. One of Moshic’s first releases under his own name was the track “Nightstalker,” which quickly became an underground anthem and gained widespread recognition, featured in top compilations and praised by DJ Magazine. In a major milestone, the entire Argonout project catalog was later purchased by Armin van Buuren’s label, Armada Music, confirming its importance in progressive music history.
Building on that momentum, Moshic released the landmark compilation "Distorted Patterns," which featured top Middle Eastern talent and showcased his curatorial skills. His Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, invited and hosted by Pete Tong, became legendary—marking him as the first Israeli artist ever featured on the show. Tong praised him as “the best Israeli thing since falafel.”
Moshic’s sound is instantly recognizable—dark, melodic, hypnotic, cinematic, and infused with subtle Middle Eastern textures. Avoiding commercial trends and easy samples, his productions are built from the ground up with emotional precision and an uncompromising vision.
With his independent label Contrast Records, Moshic provides a home for his distinct sound and a platform for rising artists who share his love for deep, boundary-pushing progressive house.
He has toured extensively around the world, released on top labels, and has been recognized three times in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs. In 2003, he won two MTV Israel Awards: Best Underground Release and Best Producer.
