David Harrow and Hugo Nicolson are both celebrated, veteran producers. They are also old friends. Harrow first found fame in the early 1980s working with the post-punk poet, Anne Clark. Collaborating on huge, global hits such as “Sleeper In Metropolis” and “Our Darkness”. Tunes that were heavily rotated in the nightclubs of Detroit and Chicago, and would go on to influence the development of house and techno.

Nicolson started his career in the late `80s as a tape op, at London’s Townhouse Studios. Finding his feet programming and engineering for Julian Cope and on Happy Mondays’ zeitgeist-grabbing “Rave On”. Tracks from that E.P. were remixed for dance floors by “Balearic Beat” DJs Terry Farley, Paul Oakenfold and Andrew Weatherall, and it was with Weatherall that Nicolson made his biggest musical mark. “Ably assisting” the DJ on a series of wildly inventive remixes and co-producing Primal Scream’s Mercury Music Prize winning album, “Screamadelica”.

Harrow too was a mate of Weatherall’s. The two teamed up for 12”s as Blood Sugar and Deanne Day, and Harrow licensed LPs of trance, under the alias Technova, to Weatherall’s labels, Sabres Of Paradise and Emissions Audio Output. The Harrow-Nicolson connection, however, goes back further. Both spent some time with the ground-breaking dub imprint On-U Sound. Harrow contributed to the label’s catalogue throughout the `90s and toured as a member of Dub Syndicate. In 1990 he and Nicolson engineered and programmed on African Head Charge’s “Songs Of Praise”. The pair later, coincidently, during the 2000s, both ended up in L.A. - Harrow still lives there - but “Revolvalution” is their first joint release.

In its original mix the track is a tearaway shot of sampledelia. Frenetic, frantic, full of sped-up fractured vocal fragments and shooting star sound effects. Riding racing snares and busy, buzzing arpeggios. Like Giorgio Morroder on Heisenberg’s blue meth. Peppered, fizzing and popping with prancing pretty chimes, party shouts, laser blasts and trippy glissandi, it breaks down for a brief breather before banging into a galloping TB-303 groove. Harrow hands over two additional mixes, the first of which is heavier, harder and more strongly acidic. A pumping, pounding piece of progressive house, high hats hammering out its rigid 4 / 4. The second is a stripped down, filtered dub, with a ringing melody / circuitry and rhythm that rushes toward you like an express train.

Rory Natkiel and Joe Moran aka Rule Six add to the package with dynamite disco-dub. Boasting a quality kick, slapped post-punk b-line, and an expanse of echo, their take shakes like Francois Kevorkian manhandling industrial fruggers such as 400 Blows or Chakk. Betraying their own Weatherall / A Love From Outer Space affiliations with fractal flickers reminiscent of Sabres Of Paradise’s remix of Throbbing Gristle’s “United”.

Regular creative co-conspirators Rude Audio and Dan Wainwright also rock up with a couple of reworks. One is all dubwise rattles and ricochets, seismic subs and sedated beats. Whipping up a wicked psychedelic whirlpool of sound. Four minutes in it runs into a raga rock guitar / electric sitar solo, before showers of SFX start it skanking again. Strange, deranged, and with an oddly serene finale, it’s a bit of a “journey”. Listen closely and you might hear a loon bird. Their “VIP” version slings a slow, slack breakbeat about like seriously stoned instrumental hip hop. Sections play backwards, reel-to-reels spin out of control, and altered state gates get applied. Mad delay washes everything. Imagine Mo Wax / UNKLE at their most blasted / baked. New York’s cool Khromozomes or Japan’s Natural Calamity. Increasingly mind-bending and heady, it’s even more of a trip. Both remixes share a cracking lack of concern for convention that rivals the late, great Mike Kandel’s Tranquility Bass.

The avant-garde duo European Canon, formed by Uvemaster & DJ Troublesome, are a pivotal yet overlooked act in Spain’s electronic scene. Following their production work with Lil B and Denzel Curry, the Ceuta-born brothers transitioned into electronic music, blending punk elements with forward-thinking electronics through a consistent driving groove, establishing their signature sound.

DDTX004 opens with “Quieres Mirar”, slithering in with the humid breath of a nocturnal encounter. Built around whispered ASMR vocals, warped castañuelas, sub-bass pulses and sighing flanger trails, it channels the sultry tension of the early Modern Love catalogue and the percussion qualities of Night Slugs seen through a rose-tinted lens of digital erotica. 

A sunlit curveball that swaps darkness for euphoria, “See U Today” is an ode to Balearic romance and the golden years of 2000s Ibiza. With shimmering organs, sunset breakbeats and a gently elastic bassline, it tells the story of a fleeting beachside affair—both nostalgic and hopeful, with just enough haze to blur the line between memory and fantasy.

The title track “La Pistola” is the EP’s bullet: an industrial, hyper-digital club weapon that oozes menace and dark humor. Vocals are metallic and androgynous, like an AI seductress corrupted by libido. The metaphor behind “la pistola” is delivered with provocative elegance, backed by corrosive acid lines, obliterated 808s, and splashes of noise. 

The remix by solla takes the original’s firepower and dissolves it into a fog of modular glitches, dubbed-out percussions, and disembodied fragments. Imagine Bristol if it had been built in a fever dream, where organic textures warp and decay in a slow-motion implosion, hinting at dystopia but never fully surrendering to it.

Diogo and Nástio’s paths crossed more than 15 years ago, long before the former had ventured into music making and the latter had burst into the zeitgeist of the international contemporary art scene with his defiant and corrosive stance. The curiosity they initially felt for one another grew over time, allowing their friendship to spill over and expand into something far deeper. Nástio Mosquito is family.

The invitation for this record came about naturally. Diogo and Nástio have frequently collaborated on hybrid projects involving performance, photography, music — but, above all, community. So when the original Dun Dun record reached Nástio’s ears, the initiative for this new proposal was his:

Let me be VERY CLEAR, these songs - if I may call them such things - had absolutely no need for my words and voice. I needed them...

When I first heard Diogo's DUN DUN, I had the feeling that that's exactly what pop music should be sounding like right now! There was an intensity, an organized fragmentation of intentions, and a hint of a "fuck it" kind of celebration. I wanted to be part of it...

Both the lyrical content and the delivery of these words and melodies are a gathering of visions within a disturbing scenario. Imagine if you were invited to sing, while a diarrhea outbreak is happening, in real time, all around you. You will shit your own pants today. There's no escaping it... You've got a gun pointed at your face, and you are rudely demanded to sing or die. How do you find and nurture dignity in such a predicament? Pop at its finest, if you ask me...

As summer's warmth dissolves into twilight, grey clouds gather on the horizon, bearing the whispers of rain and the pine forest's scent yields to the caress of a fresh breeze. We are delighted to unveil Estimulo's latest mix for Deep Breakfast Series, a sonic journey to envelop your senses.

Estimulo is an avid record digger and die-hard music aficionado with extensive vaults of records since the late 80s. In his club DJ sets he’s on the lookout for those special moments of dancefloor salvation, oscillating between Deep House and Techno’s classics and more obscure electronic treasures, with splashes of Electro & Disco / Funk and with an extended broad perspective on genres and epochs not forgetting recent and upcoming gems. It’s not purely a retrofuturistic thing, rather he strives to connect music of different epochs to form a holistic flow. His special passion is to make his own edits / versions of the music he loves. With his label Mixomat Recordings (founded in 2004) he has been putting out early releases by artists such as
Marco Nega, immer.Chic (Workshop), Rezkar (Running Back, Meakusma) and Serendipity/Rai Scott (Inner Shift Music / 2DeepSoul).
His weekly Radio Show (EstimuloShow @ mixomat.org since 2007, also on Cashmere Radio since 2017) is regarded as a mainstay by many in the scene.
The last years have seen Estimulo taking the vibe to places like the US, Chile, Argentina, Australia, UK, France, Canada, Norway, Poland, Ukraine and Jordan on his DJ tours.
Estimulo used to co-run the futura event agency and DJ crew, that has been causing some stir in the Berlin scene with their proceedings in beloved underground spots like ://about blank, Paloma, Horst and Chez Jacki/Maria am Ostbahnhof.

About the mix he said:
"It's like a sequence of childhood memories. You close your eyes and remember science fiction films with the infinite universe and thousands of stars, a summer beach with your parents and siblings, then a spaceship with robots running around excitedly and making beeping noises. A few minutes later, you're beamed back to Earth and standing on the top of a mountain, gazing down into the wide valley, then a long walk through the forest along a mountain river. Or you hear the large church organ. In the end, it's all about aural beauty. I invite this music to give me and all listeners goosebumps. Nostalgia is only part of the equation here; i reckon timelessness is even more important. I hope you enjoy the journey through my memories and moods."
