PREMIERE: aitch & Fokko & Bass Commander - Fear No Bass [Fear No System]

As the first episode clearly stated, Contra stare, that is, “to stand against”. To be effective in our revolt against the system, though, it is important not to do it just as individuals, but to stand together, hand in hand. Thus, I introduce a new, irregular edition of this show, where this connection will be emphasized in a form of specific b2b sets. For the first round, I linked up with one of my closest people. SYK is kind of a new figure in the field of percussive and bass-oriented electronics, which this show tries to look into, although he ain’t a greenhorn in music at all. We played together in a couple of bands before and currently we work on the Hamiltonián project, which connects electroacoustic improvisation, noise and post-jazz practice. When I heard that he wanted to start mixing, I was very excited, because we have kind of a special (musical) energy together! Since then, we played some nice b2bs this year, cherished some souls around Brno and I think this nearly 1.5h mix reflects this in a cute way. After soothing dub-infused tunes at the start, the rest of the show focuses on jungle-based alt club production and culminates on the edge of what could be called “mixable drum and bass”, fused with some half time and psy oddities. I was very happy to play some of these 180 bpm tunes that I do not get to spin much in a standard club environment - and together with the goofiness in the mix that SYK represents for me, it creates the perfect first edition of Contra stare: Hand in Hand.
