Luca Averna and Ale Doretto are two Venezians living in Ibiza that aim to capture the true musical spirit of the island under their Residentes Balearicos guise. Often collaborating with Chris Coco, Luca and Ale maintain the breezy and free energy so synonymous with the White Isle through their polished productions, deftly moving between languid beach side chillers to intoxicating house music. With two superb outings on Kenneth Bager’s Music For Dreams label, the pair now make an offering on Joe Morris’ nascent Shades Of Sound imprint with the Postales EP.

‘Noche De Verano’ captures the mid to late Eighties Balearic flavour to a tee; chunky drums and big snares, children chanting, heavenly keys and wistful flutes all combine to create that perfect alfresco dancing moment. ‘Soleada’ slows the pace for an early evening ride, with a Larry Heard style deep house groove. Gentle keys and male vocal motifs melt over pulsing arps and gated pads.

Joe Morris flips the energy with his Soleada remixes, creating an Italian dream house inspired take on his Halcyon mix and a blissed out breakbeat version with the Twilight mix. Camilo Miranda twists Noche De Verano into a warm up club cut, respectfully keeping the original tone and adding a subtle italo-disco bass riff and synth stabs,

This is a release perfect for the on-coming warmer months; five tracks designed for dancing under the sun and stars alike where finally we will once again come together with our friends to experience life and music x.

LA’s Warehouse Preservation Society cue up a suitably long slung and sophisticated release for Dave Harvey’s well established Futureboogie imprint.  Dave Aju (Circus Company/Mule Musiq) completes the release with proper tasty remix.

Comprising Travis ‘TK’ Kirschbaum & Tavish Graham, Warehouse Preservation Society have released cuts on Rogue Cat Records and Machine Limited, works with such esteemed artists as Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca, Newborn JR, DJ Garth & Anthony Mansfield, and Paramida’s Love On The Rocks label as well as landing a spot on DJ Harvey's "The Sound Of Mercury Rising Vol II" Pikes compilation.

‘Endlessly’ sets itself at ‘chugger pace’, as its mechanical body funk groove teases out a myriad of micro vocals and steadfast melodies, whilst its counterpart, ‘Dublessly’, goes down the rabbit hole and smothers itself in spring reverbs and delays for a transcendental pilgrimage!

The disco drums of ‘Don’t Mess My Head’ get an industrial touch; shades of electro and New York no-wave are evoked on this powerhouse track, which in turn gets a re-rub from San Francisco’s Dave Aju, who jacks it up a notch, adding a layer of energy and intensity that really seals of this charming release.

Foule Contact is about freeing ourselves from barriers and finding ourselves together, through music in its more profound way. Going from the virtual world to real-life and connect all together in each and every one of those tracks. Foule Contact is the idea that the current atmosphere won’t last forever, and that we already expect our reunion, cradled with tenderness and all the energy accumulated over the last few months. 
This compilation is about 15 eclectic and danceable tracks. Gathering a broad spectrum of genres that animate us, from House to Italo-Disco, Afro cosmic or Leftfield. 

The multifaceted producer from Saint-Petersburg Kito Jempere greets us with a cinematographic-feeling trip. Craftily inspired, it sounds like a tribute to Sergio Leone and lies in a minimalist and cosy atmosphere.

The sun was setting over the dusty desert, the dunes stood tall and braced themselves for the sandstorm which would follow overnight. Stars began to appear one by one in the dense black sky, they flickered and flashed above the planet with a watchful calm, removed from the rogue actions of the human race and it's destruction. It was time to leave this old abandoned planet, it had once served us well but now it was time to go. Into the big, great beyond they would vanish and disappear as if they'd never even belonged. 

Mixed Signals is a new record label designed to showcase the abstract fringes of "dance" music and it's associations. "Go For It" is a fun filled, punk ready disco cut which blurs the lines between genres and doesn't really follow the rules. The label describe it to be as much Walter Gibbons as it is Mad Professor.

PREMIERE: Eros - Go For It! [Mixed Signals]

As the world and its wife tries to board the last plane out of 2020, Eclectics rolls up with a charter flight big enough to ferry all-comers to Shangri-La. The Oh! EP, from Ibiza-based Italian producer Luca Averna and legendary British veteran Chris Coco, is 35 minutes of delightful, deep-dive distraction from a world gone mad.

This isn’t simply a collection of tunes sitting cheek-by-jowl with their remixes, this is a soaring suite – a movement in five parts put together with care, confidence and consummate craft.

First up on the in-flight entertainment is “There Is No Planet B”. Despite the distress-signal sentiment of the title, it’s an audio hug of breathy synths, languorous lead lines and slow, whirling propeller percussion. A mid-paced reminder that we really are all in this together, the melodic flow coalesces midway through, giving directions to the dance.

The Veteran Delinquents (Joe’s Bakery and Passport to Paradise stalwart Craig Christon along with producer Tim Hutton) pick up the baton and increase the momentum like veteran DJs reading the room. Their remix follows on seamlessly from the original, bigging up the boogie with handclaps, piano and a beat that channels electro and new wave New York.

Next up is Jazxing (The Very Polish Cut-Outs/ Transatlantyk), who find another gear and chug straight ahead – full steam in widescreen. Increasing the bandwidth even further they throw in guitar licks and percussive punctuation, forcing the familiar melody into bold new territory.

And suddenly, there you are, in the middle of a four-to-the-floor groove for discerning dancers after a journey so smooth you couldn’t even feel the corners.

As the bass peters out, title track “Oh!” blossoms into view, building slowly, layers lapping over each other, gentle yet steady, fragile but with a firm foothold. The pace has quickened, but the pin-perfect pacing means you don’t realise until you’re halfway in and committed to the ride. Oh! indeed…

Then, the final act. Once again, Eclectics frequent flier James Bright tales the controls and banks away beautifully from the original, leading you into territory littered with broken beats, rippling synths and an afro-infused groove. This is all played out against a gentle backdrop, a watercolour wash of sound that smooths the flightpath, tempers the turbulence and joins the dots between guitar flourishes and snare snaps.   You have reached your destination. Enjoy.

Luca Averna & Chris Coco - There is no Planet B(Jazxing Remix)

With a little light at the end of the pandemic tunnel and thoughts of dancing again etching ever closer, Higher Love Recordings first release of 2021 sees them teaming up with Mexican producer Alex Aguayo for some hi energy, hands in the air, peak time electronica in the shape of the ‘Not Going Out EP’. There’s two different takes on the original, one from the label heads themselves and Whiskey Pickle’s Adam Warped.

‘Not Going Out’ starts with a kick, knocking out a four to the floor electro Italo beat, layering synths to a almighty breakdown.

On the first rework Balearic Ultras develop the sound around Alex Aguayo’s emotive synths, adding breaks and a splash of acid. The track builds and builds for over four minutes before unleashing that rave again breakbeat house feeling.

Closing out the EP Adam Warped delivers a slice of complex electronica. It features dance music’s most famous birds, subtle electro breaks and lush keys and guitar work from Adam himself. It’s a totally different take on the original that would work as the sun sets over Sant Antoni de Portmany or at 4am Sunday morning in Glastonbury’s naughty corner of Lost Vagueness.

We may not be going out.. but hopefully it won’t be too long.
