Especial is delighted to welcome Odopt back to the label, this time teaming up with Sano for a club-heavy global excursion and the vocal deep dive of Picha. A meeting of friends and collaborators across continents and years, finally presented in vocal and instrumental, as well the welcome return of label stalwart Jamie Paton with additional remix and dub to bite.

Long-time fans of Sebastian Hoyos aka Sano’s productions, seeing him release for Matias Aguayo’s Comeme and Munich’s Public Possession, Especial jumped at the chance to present Odopt’s reworkings of Sano’s oeuvre, taking vocalist’s Lolito
night-time exoticisms and offering a red-lit basement, dark room anthem.

As with all good things, time let the music ferment. The 2016 outline became a 2019 demo, first presented to the label, and emphatically embraced. With Sano returning from Barcelona to his native Columbia, replacing the world of club culture with horticulture, Odopt found their new Paris base led them to finally hit the pocket, the tribal percussion propelled by the razor-sharp snare and perfectly, more cowbell.

Who better than to request remixes than the origin of Especial, its first artist, mainstay mixer, and designer of each artwork since the label’s birth in late 2013, Jamie Paton. Having gone on to release for label peers and inspirations, ESP Institute and Multi Culti, this is a welcome return. Paton’s trademark deep dubwise is ever present, as is the exemplary programming, but now the twist of breaks in Remix form gives this EP widescreen dynamics.

The sound system stretching Dub mix rounds off, the vocals pulled back, the wobble and trembling bass, again highlight Especial’s mission, club music for the head and feet, mixing new wave with neu rave, beats with breaks, looking back but always, always moving forwards.

Odopt & Sano - Picha [Emotional Especial 46]

The new 12” series on Ballyhoo Records is dedicated to what label owner ‘Thee J Johanz’ describes as ‘Triptech Journeys’. The series takes the listener on a journey traversing old school house to mystical acid and everything in-between.

On volume 2, titled ‘Trancedenting Machines’, side a treats us to two tracks from Master Johanz. First, we have his track ‘Jack the Tripper, which utilizes the famous Dutch analog synth the “Synton Syrinx” and gives the track its swampy bubbling filter sounds and a massive intense hypnotizing drone sound in the background. This coupled with the steady grooving beat will take you to the moon and back. Next up is his track ‘Daylight Tripper’ which brings us a few steps into the daylight with its deep acidic sound that will keep you moving.

Flip it over to side b and we have upcoming talent ‘David Agrella’ from London who surpasses himself with his brilliant acidic track ‘Machinery.’ Finally, and definitely one to watch, is the incredible Swiss acid don, ‘DJ Emotion’ with an extract from one of his endless magical jams. Incredible stuff all round, you need this in your life and on your turntable!

Bytes are super excited to announce the reissue of the killer 1990s electro EPs by SEM (aka Damon Baxter, who would go on to record as Deadly Avenger). The original 12”s have been out of print since they were released on J Saul Kane’s Electron Industries imprint in 1995 (Phox EP) and 1996 (The Demon EP). They have never been available digitally. With the original masters M.I.A., the tracks have been lovingly remastered from vinyl by Keith Tenniswood, who as part of Two Lone Swordsmen (alongside the late Andrew Weatherall), knows a thing or two about producing top-notch electro music. In a fusion of science and sound, Kalocain's debut vinyl release, "Genetic Memory," unfolds an eerie tale. "W.N.G." opens a portal to an ancient world, where forgotten tongues unveil cryptic secrets. ALZC03 - Atlantika EP is a rolling cycle of inspiration, mirroring new experiences and sonic explorations that oscillate from warm memories with ‘Pastel de Nata’ & ‘Bairro Alto’ to dark atmospheres aligned with current events in ‘Casa Amarela’. The EP ends with ‘Push The Tempo Down’, which stands out as a reminder to slow down with a unique reinterpretation by Eklektique, a remix able to uplift its essence and message.

Shelter Me is a compassionate and dedicated collective that, in our modest capacity, endeavors to address the challenge of the continuously expanding homeless communities across the UK.
Our primary goal is to raise funds by leveraging the platform of electronic dance music, whether it involves organizing events or, as is the case here, releasing music.
"Shelter Me - In Crisis" represents the third installment in our ongoing Shelter Me series, dedicated to supporting UK-based homelessness charities. Building upon the success of our previous albums, "Beats for Beds - The Remixes" and "Shelter Me - The Album," which collectively raised over 7K in donations for Shelter, this latest release aims to further our contributions, only this time to Crisis.
This album has assembled some of the most talented artists and producers from the renowned ALFOS scene, including Duncan Gray, Zillas On Acid, Al Mackenzie, A-Tweed, and Tronik Youth, among others. With such an impressive lineup, we are determined to exceed our past accomplishments, setting an initial fundraising goal of 4K.

Ransom Note Records sub label Insult To Injury are delighted to welcome back analogue techno pioneers Buran with their second full length excursion for the label, in the form of The Hunter EP. Born of the mechanical machinations of Joe Wretham and Ian Scott, their latest instalment of furious face melters is aimed squarely at the post midnight dancefloor, bubbling away with squelchy 303 potions and black magic beats.

First single, Alnitak, opens the EP and immediately we’re confronted with Buran’s inimitable modus operandi; slash and burn Acid Techno with a scorched earth ethos. A full frontal assault of acidic sorcery, lobbing techno bangers over the ramparts as the castle walls are pummelled. Hold onto your hats, it’s not for the faint of heart!

Alnilam is next out the gate, ricocheting off the armour plating of its enemies, bouncing along and razing everything in its path to the ground. We’re delivered brief respite from the brutality with the addition of some celestial vocal edits, whose angelic timbres provide juxtaposition to the synthetic onslaught. As the smoke clears, the penultimate Mintaka glides into view. Wonderfully barbed, but gloriously lush chords propel the track forward, over a bed over automaton drum machines and staccato blips, bleeps and swirling noise.

Rounding off, ITI are hyped to have the mighty Void Complet on remix duties. Fresh off the back of his breakthrough release on CHOBU Records, London based super producer Chog Burley takes Alnitak and reimagines it in his own image. Launching with a rich, metallic arpeggio, we’re drawn into an analogue dream, before realising that’s all a ruse. We have been lulled into a false sense of security, because we’re about to be clattered around the head by that savage 303 riff from the original. We’re caught in the crossfire as glitched vocals and bit crushed acid lines vie for dominance. This correspondent knows not how to fully encapsulate the terror of this remix… watch out dance floors around the world!

The machine was oppressive and loud, it watched from the skies above, like a great overseer from the beyond. The people down below knew not why or who was behind the bulking beast but they could remember the sunshine and the life that had existed before. That, they would never forget.

Valencia based record label Frigio are set to release a remix package which features alternate versions of tracks from CLOCK DVA. This one is a hard hitting electro focussed EP which is built for dark, sleazy rooms. The Atom ™ remix was the stand out cut for us with a riotous saw driven synth and dark moody, alluring vocals.

Mixed Feelings presents a VA remix EP of Jaxe's track titled "Flames" (released in 2023 via Peace Tomorrow VA) from Bejenec, Bakblivv, Avtomat, Tamten and Jaxe's own flip.

Beginning with Bejenec's remake, Flames emerge as reminiscent of the golden days of 4/4 UK bass, boasting a commanding bassline that drives the rhythm alongside drums infused with lots of swing.

Following suit is Babklivv, whose distorted low frequencies disrupt the previous remix structure, presenting a beat driven by broken kicks, perpetually building a seductive tension.

The third track belongs to Avtomat, who further diversifies the mix with an onslaught of heavy percussive hits seamlessly melded with a dubstep-inspired bass, gradually enveloping the listener until exhaustion sets in.

TAMTEN then offers a momentary, deeper interpretation, imbuing the original with a southwestern sonic flavor, evoking an abstract dream that seems to stretch on indefinitely.

Finally, Jaxe's reinterpretation brings the EP to a close, reimagining the original bassline with uptempo breakbeat drums and a captivating sawtooth hook, elevating the energy into higher BPM territory.
