Gravedad Cinética - Nectar

Austin, Texas-based Daniel Allen dishes out eight raw electronic jams to keep you moving and grooving this July.

Released on the artist’s own Denied Music imprint, the LP vastly jumps from one style to the next – a signature trait of the multi-faceted producer whose background spans jungle music to house, techno and 80s-inspired pop. On this booming new LP, ‘Phantoms of My Former Self’, Allen seemingly shows us these “phantoms” through a series of tracks exploring past, current, and future styles.

The first track, ‘72 Hours’, nods to early house in a tasty drum and bass combination before adding a level of emotion through a brush of floating vocals and a contemplative synth pad.

There’s a funky synth-heavy garage flex with the final song ‘2B Goodat’, while tracks like ‘Water Weasel’ and ‘Flights of Fancy’ take a more direct house route accompanied by swinging, jazzy drum breaks.

Allen really treats us to some synth delights on this LP. ‘Shakes and Shrugs’ hits hard with a centrepiece riff over a deep-cutting, bright 4x4 beat.

‘Totem’ is a standout on the release: it might seem like an innocent electro-tinged track at first, but the breakdown soon offers a tidy crescendo with a catchy melody. It all ties in with the drums on the second drop, making for a memorable moment on any dancefloor.

Following this is another major milestone of the LP in the form of ‘Too Much Telephone Call’, which adopts a broken beat. Here, Allen continues to serenade the listener in a blanket of beautiful synth melodies.

Tresor resident DJs LNS and DJ Sotofett have for some years been developing a style at the club's Globus floor, and their new EP is a die cut of exactly the classic techno, electro, and house music they play. Here are no productions drenched in reverb, no hi-fi obsessions or generic algorithmic patterns – this is Globus Trax, the duo's third release on Tresor Records, four tracks consisting of real TR-909 workouts, rude and driving basslines, live runs through the mixing desk, and a Blake Baxter cover version with LNS on vocals. 
 
LNS & DJ Sotofett programmed an EP to perfectly fit their warehouse style of DJing, bringing out colour and variation in a spectrum more similar to a club compilation than a dogmatically reduced concept. With a single repeated vocal sample, Globus Trax opens bombastically with ClickClickClick, a dub-infused UK garage house track anyone in the world can easily describe in the course of a second.
 
Following this comes Gearbox which is a hefty slab of big room electro featuring a centerpiece arpeggio and the warmest harmonic pads on the EP's four tracks, which not-so-subtly makes reference to the pioneering band that shares a name with Globus and Tresor's home, the Kraftwerk. 
 
The house vibe returns on Destination 909, which is nothing but a manifesto for the TR-909, where the beloved drum machine's jacking beats meet galactic strings and synthetic bass, only to be ripped apart in a slamming break that sees the machine take centre stage as it cuts in-and-out of the mix, again a clear nod to the duo's sets in the club.
 
LNS steps up on vocal duties and DJ Sotofett keeps the 909 running for their final cut, taking a deeper dive into the realms of classic techno and paying tribute to "The Prince of Techno" Blake Baxter by covering his Reach Out originally released on Tresor Records in 1995.
 
The 12" was cut by DJ Sotofett himself at Manmade Mastering, where he resurrects the lost art of late-90s loud cuts with sonic presence and punch, optimal for the club-focused 12" format, and is the first to come in the new Tresor Sleeve, boasting an embossed logo on either side.

UK based record label Weapons of Desire was born on the 30th November 2017. The brain child of three friends Alex Handley, Mick Clarke and Toni Aslam. Alex and Toni first met Mick two years before when they had a couple of Auto Sound City EPs out on Mick’s long running Flight Recorder label. 

The saying “Being around the block a few times” is an understatement when you look at the recording history of them all. Playing, making and releasing music all the way back to the 80’s (even further in Mick’s case) seemed like a natural progression when talking about a potential label and the vision they had before its creation using their recording names (Iron Blu and Auto Sound City) to make the kind of music they wanted to dance to. The ethos was and still is to release tough dancefloor publications as stated in the label description "Spinning an endless cable of steel sound".

Over the years Weapons Of Desire has released vinyl as single-sided two track hand stamped records, four track EPs, a couple of six track compilations entitled Machine Funk Vol. 1 and 2, double packs and an album. The label Is also now fully integrated with regular digital releases too.

31 releases and a total of 33 different artists, Weapons of Desire has a seat firmly at the table with more chairs added for 2025. Afterall without great music, life would most certainly be a mistake



Weapons Of Desire takeover w. Snuffo Live [05.05.25]

A quarter-century after its original release, another gem from Carl Craig's extensive back catalogue is released digitally for the first time as part of the soundtrack to Jean-Cosme Delaloye's film Desire: The Carl Craig Story.

'The Truth', originally released as the B-side to Problemz in 2000, is a deep cut from Craig's archive re-edited & remastered for 2025. It captures the iconic Detroit techno producer in the meditative mode associated with his 69 classics 'Desire' and 'At Les'.

Its release teases the forthcoming soundtrack album where it features alongside the recently reissued classic 'No More Words' and Craig's Grammy-nominated Junior Boys remix, as well as other essential tracks from the Craig discography.
