Manchester based DJ and producer Marcus Paulson debuts on MOS Recordings. Kicking of with a typical Aroy Dee-approved sunrise jam on 'No Go Zone' before three slabs of jacking acid take over. Ticking all boxes from thumping Chicago house to gritty acid and emotive tear jerking strings this EP has all MOS characteristics from start to finish.

The Sagan Club collective began its journey about nine years ago, the result of the union of three DJs who came from other collectives and came together to party in Madrid, focusing on Deep-House, Cosmic and Disco, and thus be able to bring some of their favorite DJs of these genres. Their first sessions were at the Siroco Club and they had exceptional guests such as Andy Hart, Craig Bradley, Medlar, Pletnev or Ishmael, among others. With the passage of time two of the members stopped participating and, soon after, Oncina from the Cenital label began to collaborate actively and they started to move to other venues in the capital (Costello, Republik and El Sótano), counting again with some national and international guests such as Kornel Kóvacs, Luis Costa, Daar, Delone, Alvaro Cabana, Jackwasfaster or Promising/Youngster. In December, the collective will be nine years old and for this occasion its members have decided to gather the tracks of some of their guests, with the plan to release four eps of four tracks every three months, in which they will review the history of the collective through the DJs who have participated in their parties over the years.

 

This first release brings together the talents of three of the guest DJs: Delone, Jackwasfaster and LagreSca, plus Hyman Bass, one of the resident DJs and one of the founders of the collective. The duo LagreSca, formed by writer and DJ Luis Costa and producer Fernando Lagreca, is in charge of opening the EP with a brutal "Mostro", a blast of forceful and dark Techno, whose tension rises throughout the track and traps you in its loop; perfectly designed to burst any dance floor. The producer Jackwasfaster - a regular DJ at Sagan Club parties - delivers us a wonderful "Ora Et Labora", a time bomb destined to take any dancefloor by storm thanks to a perfect mix of Italo, House and Dark Disco, with a hooking melody and a mythical vocal sample. Delone, the boss of the Riverette label, is another usual suspect of the Sagan parties, having played and collaborated as co-organizer in several dates; this track that he gives us shows all his quality, with that emotional IDM with a sound cared to the smallest detail, of precious atmospheres and hypnotic development, which serves to take a breath of air after those two tracks more pisteros. Our resident Hyman Bass is in charge of closing the EP with a House cut with the sights set on the UK, built around a powerful bass that is wrapped by arrangements that bring it closer to Hip-House, and with fantastic vocals of the singer Chulo Soundsystem, a regular of his parties that elevates the cut to another level.

Chicago house legend Mystic Bill joins Crimes Of The Future with two straight up jacking house tracks with bonus instrumental and a mind bending remix by Scott Fraser. Bill Torres needs little introduction to those fans of the original Chicago movement in the late 1980's and 1990's, he produced a string of 12's for the likes of Trax and Relief Records whilst playing and holding down DJ residences in some of the cities best loved venues. After remixing Scott Fraser's No Word Of Truth release last year on his DX Recordings label his first full solo release on Crimes Of The Future has arrived.The A cut Frequency 9 is a rolling jacker with rattling percussion and dark synth stabs to dement the warehouse dancefloor and very much in the line of Bill's trademark style. A2 see's Fraser return the remix favour delivering a massive floor bumping remix adding all new drums, 303 and huge bassline giving a nod to the classic sound of those Sex Trax/ Power Music 12's from the 1990's with his 11 minute mind control remix.... The frequency cannot be controlled! Side B has both the original and a bonus intrumental of The Ship Is Sinking, a dark slice of jacking house complete with real tension and total mastery of the sampler for those able to spot it.

"Up to about the late nineties it had become widely popular in Chicago for Dj's to play their own recordings and edits off of tape. Many in the past had used Reel To Reel, but pitch control cassette decks and cassette tapes were a more inexpensive way to go. This gave us a chance to feature songs and edits that we had been made right on the fly, A lot of these songs became popular amongst certain groups but were never pressed to vinyl. Here are two of my own recording that could only be found on cassette, until now" Mystic Bill"

Long time underground legend Dan Curtin once again delivers some hot property, that electronic music tastemakers and revered diggers will have a joy in adding to their bag. The sought after '99 release Spatial Relationships sees the light of day once more, remastered and repressed. An integral release from the American producers back catalogue on the vital Metamorphics Recordings. Opener Crazy Life is an energetic brew of dancing drums and busy hits all run through with some superbly cosmic synths. It is electrifying to say the least. She Thinks She's So Smooth is a hi tech house cut with exquisite drum programming and tripped out synths and chords that lend it a late night feel. It is filled with machine soul and future vibes and then gets followed by An Up The Wall Drive, which is pure Motor City techno with its warped bass and hyperdrive hits all underpinned by slick drum work. This is a timeless masterpiece from this long time pioneer, if you are not familiar with this one already, sit tight and enjoy the ride.
