Exposed 2 Radiation produced their next EP called Failed Errors. Failed Error is the first track on this collection and sets the tone we are used to from Exposed 2 Radiation—screaming and flashing combined with pumping drum rhythms. A more forward 4 by 4 leads Body And Brain (Sabotage Mix) into a strong and aggressive floorfiller. Filmmaker is on the same level, although perhaps a slightly more trancey main lead on top of a good-sounding acid line. Total sonic terror is Crisis Of Confidence, which places Exposed 2 Radiation on a unique level of sound engineering where there is almost no competition. The EP is sublime! Play it loud!

What a weekend - a gathering of the most beautiful souls. Such a feeling to play to the most throbbing dancefloor. The energy in that tent was immense, once again. Year after year, the energy and enthusiasm is unbeatable; indescribable! A weekend that is etched into my memory for eternity. 

Such a privilege and a joy to be part of this incredible community. I was engulfed with emotion when playing this set on the Saturday night, and have been ever since every time I think about the fun we all had. I'm so immensely proud and overjoyed of what we have become!

Kira Ibañez is the founder and organizer of XOXA - this is her debut DJ set under the name 2 pc. Having spent almost a decade working in music and nightlife in NYC, she gained priceless experience: sweating in coat checks at clubs to slinging merch at Broadway shows to managing departments & teams at festivals to setting up trade shows at The Javits Center to running and hosting events for the nightlife community. She's now settled in London with frequent trips over to NYC (her forever home).

When starting XOXA in 2017, she decided to use her experience and love of underground music and its culture to create a night that was missing at the time - a queer centered all inclusive party focused on house music and community. The goal was to uplift and shine a light specifically on women, non binary, trans and QTPOC artists in the underground and bring a more accessible party to queers and allies who didn’t fit inside the boxes of the nightlife status quo. 

Over the years it’s expanded globally but still kept a focus on its roots in community and uplifting marginalized talent. Now it includes a global database of over 260 mixes and counting, a booking agency, a selection of residents and extended DJ family and a rotating selection of music focused events from NYC to Berlin, and now London and Edinburgh (with the occasional pop up in other cities around the world).

Notes on the Mix /// 

"This mix was live recorded the morning after my wedding, just south of Puerto Morelos in the Riviera Maya - Yucatán, Mexico. I woke up ten minutes before my set with a splitting headache and hurried downstairs to DJ for the first time. My parents and friends were waiting with cameras and I can't say I was in good sorts but as soon as I started I got into the zone and felt like it just flowed so nicely. I had intentionally picked the first set of the day at noon to kick off a BBQ/Pool Party with a bunch of established DJs on after. I wanted this set to be the one people woke up to that day - the jazzy downtempo beats coaxing them out of their rooms to start breakfast or get in the pool. The mix starts a bit more open format style with tropical inspired tunes then into some indie dance, electro, disco and classic house tracks that always make me feel happy. Shoutout to my partner Panooc who worked with me on it and patiently explained how to mix and select tracks that make sense. 

After the wedding my friend Heidy P. suprised me by putting the set on her show on Radio Quantica. Listening back I was so critical and down on the mixing - I decided I didn't want to put it up on my SoundCloud. I sat on it for over a year and happened to listen back with a friend - the time had given me new perspective and I realized I am super proud of my selections and intentions with this mix. Plus I think I did pretty well considering the lack of sleep and wedding hangover. I hope you enjoy this and take it as peek into my brain and also a very important day in my life!"

Arian Alexander (aka White Afghani) hits the Apparel Tronic main catalogue with Tales From The Backyard, a three-tracker that sounds like it was recorded on a dusty cassette left out in the sun, full of stunningly beautiful imperfections, minutiae and sonic history. It’s a Lo-fi EP at heart but rhythmically very sharp, drifting between grainy textures, deep techno grooves, and a subtle eerie, nostalgic, elegant touch you keep on discovering after each listening session. From the off-kilter bounce of the opening Escape Congo to the fast-burn swagger of Cougar, and finally the profound and intense haze of Before Leaving, there’s a kind of casual intimacy running through it all. Nothing here is trying to be flashy, just music that knows what it’s doing and lets the many hidden details do the talking. Arian’s been building a name for himself through a very personal brand of sound that wander between breakbeat, ambient, UK bass and oddball techno, always with his own logic and his classy style. This EP feels like an off-mic moment from one of his sets, something personal, a bit sideways, and totally comfortable in its own skin.
