Chilean producer Massiande returns with another record on Phonica’s family of labels, with his new ‘Through The Walls’ EP landing on the deep house focused Karakul imprint this time round. 

Since his well-received ‘Freedom EP’ on Phonica White, Massiande has had a string of strong releases on Freerange, No Fuss and Midnight Riot, adding to an already formidable back-catalogue including 12”s for Housewax and M>O>S. 

‘Through The Walls’ may be his most accomplished project to date, with the level of production at a particular high, ranging from the crisp, punchy title track to the submerged dub techno of ‘Dub At The Beach’ and on to the melodic beauty of ‘I Remember When I First Met You’. He rounds the 12” off with ‘New Life’, another new classic sounding like a rediscovered anthem from yesteryear. We can see this 12” lingering in record bags for quite some time!

The Ellipse Records project was born out of two common goals with Houseum Records: sharing music and putting forward promising artists. This sub-label highlights a new music library that oscillates between electro, breakbeat and ambient. The releases will combine exploration and texture through the symbiosis between artistic covers and sounds.

Rising contemporary electronica musician Holo will be releasing his new In Limbo EP via Houseum’s sub-label Ellipse Records on the 11th of March. The Australian producer burst onto the scene in 2019 after seeing his first track 'Atlas' uploaded on the Houseum YouTube channel and after releasing his debut EP of the same name, with house music heavyweight UK label Shall Not Fade’s sub-label Lost Palms. The EP featured the deep house classic ‘In My Dreams’ that earned over 2 million streams on Houseum channel.

Hugo Horwood (Holo himself) is originally from Canberra and is currently living in Melbourne, Australia. His music draws from unexpected genres, including pop, classic rock, acid and 90s hip hop, to create a sound that is truly his own.

Holo once had this “Airbnb for music gear” business idea and tried to validate it by buying an original Roland TB-303 to rent out to other producers in Melbourne. He ended up stopping that project but found he was way too in love with the 303 to sell it, and he's glad he didn’t because it's been a constant source of inspiration, and it’s all over this track. He’d been mucking around with an acid line over “In Limbo” and found that the 303 line worked brilliantly with the drums and bassline by themselves, so he immediately saved a new version of the project and didn't look back! The sound of this track is inspired by Andy Garvey’s 2019 Boiler Room x Pitch Festival set, and it’s another one where he thought, “this shouldn’t work”, with an acid lead, disco bassline, renaissance choir sample, eBow guitar line and a couple of sampled trumpets. The inaugural release of air miles is introduced by Jeigo with his “An Ode To Midnight EP’ which was written and produced in the Spring of 2018, between the cities of London and Paris.

The tone is set from the off with the eponymously named first track of the release ‘an Ode to midnight’. The tracks mellow break beat feel is met by warm rushing pads, ebbing and flowing between textures of the night before last.

Floor focussed, zero fussing ‘Wing Systems’ carries the front side at an orbital trajectory. No time for an intro, the drums jolt you into alertness, the wobbly bass perfectly counterpointed by gated, washing keys.

‘Lime Hawk’, melancholic euphoria brings the release back to the conscious. It’s structure toy-fully crescendos and builds, all while the Balearic synth peaks with the sub line keeping you grounded throughout.

Rounding off the record is ‘By My Side’ meandering the record into slightly darker territories. The shifting keys wash over, the siren call vocals penetrate and the thudding kick punches through, anchoring the track as an emotionally driven, cerebral affair.

Valencian Pépe is up next on the stalwart NYC label. We've got the absolutely storming 'Delusions of Grandeur' to present to you today. Giving a deep Cybernetic Italo vibe off here, and firmly placed on the peak time floors. This one is gunna cause some amount of trouble in the clubs! The rest of the EP is blinding too.
