	With Mathew Ferness’s latest EP for Russian underground label GLBDOM, the Canadian producer delivers three low-key, melodic, yet highly stimulating, deep House cuts. Across the EP, Ferness straddles the line between emotive and cerebral dance music. The result is a deeply rich and gorgeously lush set of tracks, one that seems poured over in its detail, but also highly idiosyncratic and explorative in its execution. 

	Despite his more experimental urges, there’s a gentleness and ease to Ferness’ music. The second cut on the EP, “Tomorrows Kids”, features distorted vocal samples of what sound like young kids by a windy beach. What easily could have been used for much creepier effect actually affords the track a warm and comforting tone, like the memories of a carefree summer as a child suddenly enveloping you. The beat is jaunty and uptempo, the synths dramatic, but the track never feels as if it’ll careen over the edge. Ferness establishes a kind of house-of-mirrors structure throughout, as the central melody repeats over and over, the vocal sample emerging and receding exactly the same each time. 

Rather than growing tiresome or redundant, however, the track’s cyclical structure underlines its nostalgic tone and invites the listener to more deeply immerse themselves in its rhythms and melodies. On this track, Ferness manages to tap into the feeling of a sudden rush of a memory of easier times––of innocence and youth––that you feel in no hurry to leave once it’s arrived.

Chilean producer Massiande returns with another record on Phonica’s family of labels, with his new ‘Through The Walls’ EP landing on the deep house focused Karakul imprint this time round. 

Since his well-received ‘Freedom EP’ on Phonica White, Massiande has had a string of strong releases on Freerange, No Fuss and Midnight Riot, adding to an already formidable back-catalogue including 12”s for Housewax and M>O>S. 

‘Through The Walls’ may be his most accomplished project to date, with the level of production at a particular high, ranging from the crisp, punchy title track to the submerged dub techno of ‘Dub At The Beach’ and on to the melodic beauty of ‘I Remember When I First Met You’. He rounds the 12” off with ‘New Life’, another new classic sounding like a rediscovered anthem from yesteryear. We can see this 12” lingering in record bags for quite some time!

Throughout his relatively short career in solo (His contribution to house duet Twice Movement started in 2015) , Groovence’s Head Moonee (real name François Lefevre) has delivered some top shelf contributions over the last years, appearances like his debut track on Groovence last year « Faith & Sorrow » and an official remix for Sweely’s banger « Gotta Keep On » in 2020.

This debut EP was composed at home between 2019 and 2020, as time was flying during the first covid lockdown.
With most daily constraints gone, Moonee had time to plug in his MPCs and finish this batch of tracks. Blending contemporary and classic deep house, the EP draws inspiration from artists such as Mr.G, Dj Q, Linkwood or Theo Parrish.

The machine crackled as the tape came to an abrupt finish. The reels kept on turning but there was little noise emerging from the player but for the low rumble of fuzz and dense feedback. It was time to flip the switch, see what was on the other side and start again. Who knew what magnificent noises might lie in wait upon Side B - would there be the wild sound of birds or the delicate roar of wind upon instruments which danced and sang in the rain. Or would the tape play little noise but for the slow repetition of clicking, industrial metal. It was as unpredictable and unlikely as they might expect. What came next was anyones guess...

Earlier this year Forte released an album on ØEN REC.- the Copenhagen based record label who've been doing things a little differently as of late. Now they release a digital exclusive and remixes of music taken from the album including this rework from Dj Popup.
