Under his new alias, Nowt, Chris Watson, best known as one-half of South London dance duo FYI Chris, will be dropping his solo debut EP, High Street EP. The EP will be released on fellow Londoner Will Hofbauer’s Third Place Records label on June 10th. This release marks Chris’ first solo material outside of his work with his FYI Chris right-hand man, Chris Coupe. The duo has built a name for themselves among London dance circles through the independent venue, vinyl store, and community space they opened in South London, Rye Wax, as well as releases on various esteemed labels, including Rhythm Section, Banoffee Pies, Eclipse Tribes, and their own label, West Friends. 

On High Street EP, Nowt delivers a playful, highly charged, dreamy set of four house cuts. A-side closer, “Owt”, brings the party to a full swing. From its very opening tribal drum loop, accompanied by what sound like warped bird calls, the latter of which are maintained throughout the track’s runtime, it’s clear that Nowt has a keen ear for blending off-kilter sounds and samples into a wholly distinct and unexpected whole. The track somehow never manages to slip into complete chaos, even despite its tonal shifts occurring at near breakneck speed. There’s a gracefulness that underlines the track’s looseness and playfulness, making this an incredibly impressive and rewarding left-field house banger.

From his humble beginnings in 2011, North African, Casablanca-born and based producer has been continuously shaping his sound signature in the sphere of electronic music, resulting in a cross-genres blend appealing to both DJs and music fans from all across the spectrum. After a small run of exalted singles and EPs, Polyswitch gravitates towards the full-length format with “PRAISE THE SUN“ a 13-track sonic testimonial showcasing his distinct sense of substantially blending a vibrant profusion of musical currents.

Emanating from an expression of delight and adoration, “PRAISE THE SUN" can be used as a universal answer to questions like ‘What to do?’ when there are no other solutions left. Reflecting the times, recorded during periods of duress and uncertainty, “PTS“ is a body of work conveying feelings of harmony, hope, love, and unity throughout 13 sublime musical works harkening back to the Jazz-funk fusion days with flavours of house, soul, hip-hop, and electronica. Within, the artist introspectively addresses perseverance and resilience using instrumentation as the prime expression vessel.

“PRAISE THE SUN" could very well be seen as a message of hope to a generation coming of age in a time of decay, collapse, institutional corruption, and societal change.

After her contribution to Lis Sarroca's all female producers VA at the end of last year, Glo My now delivers her next musical extravaganza with a rather Break-esque approach for Mexican imprint Fairmount Foxes and their second label outing. T.O.C. comes with a remix from label head Luis XIV and Glo My's original version, which - besides the Break-esque touch - comes with chopped up vocals and reveals a ravey twist in the second part of the track. Again Glo My delivers an on-point, unagitated and efficient club weapon.

HM PREMIERE | Lexmic - Take A Little Trip [Rewind LTD]

@art-alfie, the eminent Swedish mastermind of unconditionally funky house blesses us with the privilege of two of his somewhat “out-there” house tracks. Two functional tools with maximum wonky-ness that will completely obliterate dance floors. The EP is released by Bigges District — a label run by Stockholm producers Ari Bald, Gudding and CJ Scott. Art Alfie’s enrollment on the label’s digital imprint DIGGES is a follow up on the series “Klubbdubbar”. 

The EP takes off with ”Diana” — a house gadget made in collaboration with Måns Glaeser. “Diana”s ringing and chronometric synthesizer sounds and latin infused bass line stipulates a hefty and arid groove filled with color. On the flip “Libido Rising” enters. The tracks crooked and precarious character tosses the listener into a chaotic and tumultuous disposition. A brusque and wandering bassline accompanied by sprightly and agile jazz infused percussion culminates into this vigorous number.
