Hailing from Canada, the duo Minor Sine Project (Age and Sandau) cultivates soundscapes of deep acid gems that span the genre bounds in the 8-track Break Me Down EP on TR4R’s Rough Cuts 06. Balancing elements of both emotive and club powerhouse energy, each track holds their own weight, while at the same time, compliments and builds upon one another to culminate in an EP that brings the best of the worlds of Chicago house and Detroit electro. With tracks like "Lost In Paradise", "Break Me Down", and "Luv 2 Dream", each one traverses through different shades of pad-enriched territory that intersects Delsin-esque aesthetics with Alien Rain-like acid hypnotism. The inspiration for this ep comes by the movie “The Warriors” (1979)  about the gangs of New York. He thinks the new warriors are people like us who in these years are trying to express themselves through different art forms specifically in his case through music.

Lower Saxony's best-kept secret, Heideton Records, returns with their most ambitious and comprehensive release to date, a double pack titled Green. Green taps into the rich history of European house and techno, from Panorama Bar to Bar25 royalty, while also championing a new era of producers and cult label favourites. On the first of two EPs scheduled for release this year, Green Part 1, Heideton has curated the finest club weaponry, from ‘tears on the floor’ deep house to sinewy and psychedelic techno. Although this may sound like it doesn't work together, the release is remarkably cohesive. This is thanks to the care and precision each producer brings, displaying an intimate knowledge of what works on both the dance floor and in your headphones on the walk home. After releasing his debut "Brighter Future" last year, Belgian DJ/producer Gratts returns with an EP showcasing his skill crafting emotive house cuts. Written while stuck in Adelaide in 2020, "Euphoria" was dreamed up during coastal car rides, windows down, bumpin' beats, with added musings by local legend Brian Ruiz. When "Méditation Nocturne" kicks off we're still in the car - this time on a nocturnal meander through the ill-lit Adelaide hills, evoking misty feelings of nostalgia.
On the flipside, DiY Discs' staple PJ Principle (fka Peej) out of Nottingham steers "Euphoria" straight into disco heaven with a tasty Linn Drum groove, piano and guitar - a cut that wouldn't sound out of place on a Steely Dan record. Last but not least, New York's Jenifa Mayanja delivers a lush and dreamy rework of "Méditation Nocturne" that’s sure to captivate dancefloors worldwide.

Having made an undeniable contribution to the legacy of electronic music in Detroit over the last twenty years, Matthew Dear arrives at Planet E with a new alias, simply known as Brain. The latest in a legacy of Dear's influential techno projects including False, Jabberjaw and Audion, The World EP finds the veteran producer still moving ever-forward.

Originally debuting on Carl Craig’s acclaimed Detroit Love Vol.2 mix compilation in 2019, the introductory ‘Boss’ is a psychedelic tunnel that takes full advantage of Dear’s nous for detail, as a submissive vocal delivers a number of distinctive requests amid the lustrous texture of the Brain project, both hyper-detailed and deliciously minimal. This same sense of patience and space drives ‘Corrections’, a knotty, rolling masterpiece of digital distortion that unfolds into a valley of spacious breakbeats, before reconstructing itself back to visceral analogue pleasure.

Getting deeper still as the record progresses, ‘Rafe’ takes place in the hinterland between full-throttle rave ecstasy and unadulterated deeperness, as if gasping and exhaling with pleasure and relief. ‘Snake Head’ operates in an upper echelon of tempo that speaks for another variation of electro from Detroit’s community, collapsing into a trancelike passage of outright oddness. 

The World EP will be released in digital form initially during the lockdown period, with a 2x12" vinyl release to follow in September 2020 featuring the additional production, 'Tantricity'. Clocking in at 24mins, this understated epic offers a tumbling, occasionally indescribable journey through passage upon passage of Brain’s ultra-precise and unpredictable world, a euphoric and occasionally unsettling masterclass in suspense and release.
