Wandering between the city streets I cast my mind back to days gone by - lost friends, late nights and distant memories of faces and places I can't recall.

Despite all of this it was the same brickwork, the same broken cobbles and pavestones upon which I tread wildly atop into the morning. 

A cup of coffee and a paper will do, let's see what the world's done now. The sound of birds chirping in the trees as I enter the park, the remnants of a big weekend scattered over by the bin. 

Some might not think much of this place, to them it means little. However, to a geezer like me, it was paradise and the sense of opportunity hung thick and lingered in the air. 

Amy Dabbs and Coco Bryce have collaborated to release a killer four track EP on the newly launched record label LT-Coda, an offshoot of Lobster Theremin. We don't say this lightly when we hint that this may be one of our favourite releases of the year so far - sun kissed samples and euphoria aplenty this one rocks.

Bristol native Daffy returns to Shall Not Fade with his second solo EP, focusing on the darker aspects of 4x4 garage. 

The title track typifies Daffy’s unique and forward-thinking take on UKG. The dynamic chant of a dancehall MC is ramped up to invigorate a UKG stomper, the product: a rude, flavoursome track which evokes Spooky and Riko Dan’s ‘High Power’. Serious. The aptly-named ‘Darker Days’ is more reminiscent of El-B with cool-toned low end growls before ‘Take It Easy’ and ‘Warped’ bring things to an energetic close with a stomping 4x4 rhythm and warped bassline which nod to old school speed garage.

Balamii resident and Sticky Tapes-founder Theo Everyday arrives with a huge debut on Cheeky Sneakers, seamlessly blending the worlds of jungle, electro and trance with his signature sauce of nostalgic and futuristic hyper-funk.

Having curated the Sticky Tapes mix series and label – supporting music from artists such as Stones Taro, Om Unit, Jossy Mitsu and Lobster Theremin label head Asquith – the DJ and producer knows a thing or two about merging differing styles and energies. The Holsten FM EP plays out like a three hour club set; placing classic UK sounds at its foundation and throwing multi-coloured paint all over them.

‘The Way You Feel’ makes use of the pitched-vocal, SoundCloud hyper-pop aesthetic with hardcore-piano stabs and heartstring-tugging cheese wrapped within a huge low-end swinging bassline. A great lights-up tool to leave them with a smile on their face. The classic rave energy is maintained on the EP title track - a stripped-back cut of ragga jungle-step that’s as meditative as it is devastating.

From golden-era rave and jungle future-mutations to heads-down club sounds, ‘Every Body_s Talking (well let_s talk) is a strobe-light power sequence for when things are in full swing, before 90s breakbeat and trance join forces on a ‘Six and Two Threes’ hands-in-the-air moments.

Breaks-littered dream sequences that feel like a warm hug follow on ‘Summer Lie In’ – its chopped melodies and stirring atmospherics causing ripples within the pond of paradise – before ‘Mod Cons’ closes with a squelching cut of acid-electro on a killer digi-only exclusive.

Bristol-based Draconian Audio honcho and LBM resident Sempra delivers yet another outstanding release to upstart London collective La bonne musique. Since his popular ‘Breakbeats and Heartache’ EP on the label, he’s gone on to release on the legendary Future Classic imprint as well as Coco Bryce’s Myor. Now, he continues his onslaught of jungle and garage-fueled tracks on home soil with the ‘Red Eye’ EP.

With strong nods to his previous release on La bonne, the title track kicks things off with moody junglist vocals echoing out over clean drums and a moody, distorted Reese. ‘Right Now’ then switches things up with a garage groove, wobbly bass and more iconic sampling wizardry before ‘I Do’ plunges you right back into the depths of dark and nostalgic breakbeat. ‘Call 4 Me’ closes out the release with pitched-up vocals supplying the EP with some of Sempra’s signature happy hardcore flavour. ‘Red Eye’ is a carefully crafted love letter to UK rave culture showcasing the artist’s beyond impressive versatility and skill.

How many forms can a drum break take across the course of one EP? Needing little introduction are TIN mainstays Frankel & Harper who, with the help of Bakey, help us get to an answer. Buffalo Skank EP is a celebration of breakbeat. Whilst proving the duo’s prowess in rhythmic variety, there is an emphasis on fun as they form complex drum patterns only for them to be chopped and screwed into myriad formations. At times, an Amen break is accompanied by blissed-out atmospherics borrowed from old school d’n’b (‘Buffalo Skank’). At others, an unapologetic rhythm drives forward as if crushing anything in its way (‘Oblivion’). On ‘Taz &’ ricocheting snares evoke the music of junglist Sully before Bakey strips them entirely in favour of a more minimal sound.
