With a focus drawn squarely on artistry and creative intensity, Dez can change context and direction at will, while never losing the profound thread that guides each of his works. With past releases on several top labels that slot uniquely into various realms, his experiments cross over between IDM, techno, electro, and ambient cinematic soundscapes to combine different methods and feels into a delightfully cohesive puzzle... one that needs to be fully heard and pieced together. With this EP as our guided entry, the surface explored by Dez Williams in this upcoming series offers plenty we've not yet experienced.

Dublin based Matthew Day (FKA Taking Names) has supplied a brilliant premiere today titled ‘Inside Out’. This track is a wonderful showcase of chopped breaks, ethereal electro and low-slung dubstep infused into one. This track is truly sublime listening all the way through. What a treat.

Following Matthew’s debut EP release ‘Deep Blue’ as well as a release on Birmingham based label ‘Fly By Night Recordings’ under his belt. His latest endeavour ‘Inside Out’ looks to be a continuation of him carving out a unique sound that aims to blend electro, house, trance and bass music together.

This 4 track EP is made up of 3 of his own original productions titled ‘Inside Out’, ‘Knee Deep’ and ‘Celestial Body’ with the extremely talented, Belfast based Flyora on remix duties who provided their own take on ‘Celestial Body’ too.

‘Inside Out’, which has previously featured on BBC Radio kicks the EP off with an amalgamation of bass, field recordings and and sounds derived from the legendary Korg Prophecy synthesiser that make for a fantastic listening experience. The depth of this track is so rich that upon re-listening you can hear new elements throughout the production which is thoroughly enjoyable.

This project was born out of a late-night, "toilet philosophy" discussion in a nightclub with two friends active in the tech house scene. We were reflecting on boring, disposable club music.
The EP was generated by AI as a raw, quick-fire response, but equal time was spent on the discussion as for making the actual music. It challenges the idea that musical legacy must be painstakingly produced to be serious. This is a testament to ideas over sterile production value.

This is a plea to the scene: Don't treat genuine emotions like waste.

Introducing the Various Artists Blodyn EP, a compilation of tracks from UK artists in order to raise money for the MuslimHands: Palestine & Gaza Appeal. The EP complies of deep moving breakbeats, heart-warming vocals and shuffling 2-steps, a variation of moods and emotions for any dance floor or kitchen.

Decades of instability and the ongoing Israeli blockade has left families on the Gaza strip and the West Bank unable to enjoy the most basic of human rights such as access to food, water and medical treatment. Muslim Hands has been working in Palestine since 2007, providing medical care, food, education and livelihoods support to families across Gaza and the West Bank. All proceeds from the Various Artists Blodyn EP will be donated to this cause.

PREMIERE: DOWD - A Pocket Full Of Wonk [ANDRAS Records]

Today we premiere yet another brilliant track, today coming from young Dublin based DJ and produce, Mathew Day aka Taking Names.

Like most weeks we got sent a ton of new music and Mathew Day aka Taking Names was a name we were not familiar with, but certainly are now.

From his early days of playing piano and discovering the likes of Kraftwerk, The Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode through his father's record collection, his passion for electronic music began.

After a few back and forth emails, Matthew spoke passionately about how his taste in music evolved to encompass electronic sounds from across the spectrum of electro, house, techno and bass music. Inspired by the wealth of talent in Ireland and abroad, his influences include Desert Sound Colony, Pepe, 96 Back and Long Island Sound to name a few.

Last year saw Matthew's first release on the Birmingham label Fly By Night Recordings, an ethereal electro number to compliment a time where floating through space might be preferable. This year Matthew plans to expand his musical horizons in new directions with a back catalogue of unreleased tracks that grows week upon week as the lockdown continues,  today culminating in his self released EP called Deep Blue, which also features a remix from The Droid, who we are fans of.

Back in October 2020, South-Korean-based Honey Badger Records founder, JNS, released his debut album, “Miasma”. The album’s dark, cavernous techno and glitchy drum’n’bass textures felt in lock-and-step with the overwhelmingly bleak and unpredictable mood of last year. JNS channeled these feelings of anxiety and uncertainty into an album that pummels headstrong into these emotions, embracing rather than fleeing their all-encompassing dread. 

	For this new release, JNS has recruited his label-mates to remix four tracks off the album. Opening track, “Miasma”, goes to upstart producer Closet Yi, who takes the decaying, anxiety-laden pulse of the original and turns it into a hi-definition blockbuster of a track. Despite putting on some polish, the track retains much of its corrosive, highly volatile energy, as the central drum’n’bass refrain and synth washes are largely there intact. Yi expertly deploys the acid-squiggles JNS concocted right at the start of the track, to immediately establish that alien, post-apocalyptic vibe.

Yi’s remix betrays a clear admiration for the original. Rather than uprooting its foundation, she takes elements already there and amplifies them to dizzying, intoxicating effect. By the time the track reaches its apex and then devolves into a jerky, drum’n’bass stomper, you’ll be left reeling from the virtuosity on display.

How long had it been? Weeks? Months? Years? These were already the thoughts that flooded his mind as the fluids drained from the tank. His muscles were weak, but he could tell that the gravity of this world was stronger than it was at the base. Before he had time to figure out which war zone he had been sent to, he heard voices talking from outside. His vision was too blurry, but he knew he recognised one of them. Steam hissed, and the hatch opened. A barrage of light caused him to recoil. “Welcome to Earth,” she said.
