We're in Waterford for our latest premiere where an exciting new label 'Off The Beaten Track', has just launched with an EP from Akari. We premier his track 'No Escape'. 

Off The Beaten Track is a sister label to Seems Legit! and they will both take on new roles as the former will feature a series of eclectic, off-centre releases, and the latter will focus on the more dance floor focused sounds. 

The first release on OTBT is from Akari aka Davin Coady, who hails from Waterford city. This release is reminiscent of low-fi acid house and trip hop styles that would be heard in chill out rooms at raves in the 90s, a slight departure from his more established house and disco style, but still produced to the high standard you would expect from him. 

We look forward to hearing the other artists and sounds discovered by the label, and encourage any artist who feels they have a track that would suit them to get in touch.

In the latest edition of our Local Selection series we hand over the hot seat to a good friend of Four Four and general sound head Pauly Doyle AKA Echo Potential. We've been eager to get this mix out for a while so make this your afternoon soundtrack. 

Pauly Doyle AKA Echo Potential is a Dublin based techno DJ and producer who set up the underground club night The Universe in 2019 having been involved in the scene for the best part of a decade. Prior to lockdown, he booked and welcomed guests such as, Kloves, LAG, Rene Wise, Yant, and Blasha and Allatt to bring the noise.

As well as being a talented DJ and producer, he has taken it upon himself to better the mindset and support available for those involved with the music industry. Having started his journey studying psychology, he has gone on to set up the wellbeing collective Bear in Mind, a collective who aim to raise awareness and support better wellbeing and mental health in Irish electronic music culture. Check out his website here, which features interviews with those involved in the music scene and leading mental health professionals. 

Turn this up for an hour of techno slammers, expertly blended featuring tracks from a huge amount of Irish producers, including Aeron XTC, Rustal, Doug Cooney, Stuey Lyons (RIP) and tons more.

Local Selection 139: Echo Potential

We are delighted to share you that Taupe releases on Deeptrax' Tech-um label. After releasing on Indigo Aera's AE-X and Impress records in Berlin, Taupe launched his own recordlabel: Colours Records. On ‘Two sides of the same coin’ EP, Taupe displays his dualistic take on the techno genre, celebrating both its beauty and ruggedness.

With the Detroitish opener ‘Altum’, Taupe guides the listener into a blissful rabbit hole, filled with dreamlike-arpeggiators and pounding rhythms, bringing ultimo sci-fi sounds from far away.
‘Shimmer’ brings subtle acidic squelches, crisp hats and modulating synths paving the way into destination unknown.

On the B-side, Taupe takes a sudden left into more dark terrain. The menacing ‘Joker’ teases, agitates but ultimately drives you into a Dionysian state of madness which reminds us of Jeff Mills his fierce Axis stuff. Lastly, ‘Black Box’ will make sure that any residual ounce of energy in your body will get extracted with this vein 303 styled monster track!
