Incredibly this is already D'Marc Cantu’s third EP of the year following efforts on new label One Electronica and Ansatz. Of course, he has released on MOS many times before, including 2012’s full length A New World. This new EP, Long Weekend, features three new tracks of fully formed house and techno with more than a touch of acid along the way. 

The title track opens the EP with a lively house jam that has proud kick drums, plenty of muffled and deeply buried chords and a busy bassline that darts about like a kangaroo on hot rocks. It’s propulsive and emotive as it surges along, taking you with it every step of the way. Next up, ‘1Lb Of Flesh’ is a much more jagged and serrated track, mainly because of the manic acid squiggle that runs right through the heart of the slapping snares and icy cold hi hats. Full throttle and as ever delightfully frayed and analogue sounding, it’s a real face melter. Last but by no means least, ‘Acid Test’ is the quickest of the lot, coming over like a slick, powerful fusion of electro and techno that whips and snaps as Dance Mania style snares flap about above a grilling bassline and acid wiggles in and out. It’s a busy, fulsome track but never feels cluttered and rounds out another exceptional EP from both MOS and main man D'Marc Cantu.

Lobster Theremin's sublabel Distant Hawaii, which so far seems more house and balearic orientated than its cousin, was featured in our Top 100 2015 with the summery track "Bill Loves You" by Hidden Spheres. The label's second release is the "Secret Island" EP by newcomer and London-based producer Tony Donson aka DJ Sonikku, and it doesn't disappoint! Telfort - Snaps (STW Premiere)

The Bobby Donny label hits number four with a first EP of 2016. After efforts from label owner Frits Wentink and Eindhoven producer SAN2, this one comes from Tlim Shug. The low-profile American producer has only one EP to his name so far, but it was an impressive one that came on Echovolt Records last year and suggested he has a passion for moody and lo-fi deep house.

'Rari Techno' is up first and operates in an underground cavern. It sets a sombre tone with its swirling pads and buried deep kicks all obscured by a grainy sheen of dust. That analogue warmth continues with 'Wig $plit' which has a loose and raw percussive line laid over tender piano chords, bumpy drums and a gritty vocal rap. It’s a fresh fusion that will get clubs on their toes before 'Mutuality' again sounds all knackered and broke, scuffed up and imperfect with its squelchy synths, off time hits and stuttering kicks. Last of all 'Overcaste Tune' is another zoned out and moody deep house offering that sounds like L.I.E.S. artist Terekke at his best. This is a brilliantly insular and atmospheric EP that oozes subtle emotion and a cautious sense of optimism.

An absolute beaut from Richmond, Virginia based @dj-aakmael today via London/Lisbon imprint @releasesustain. Also recently releasing on quality UK imprints like Freerange and Church, Aakmael continues his fine run of form with a typically lush string sample melded to heavenly vox, a loose groove and supremely beautiful keys. @FunkenWavetropi busted onto the scene last year with his debut release on his then brand new imprint, @PerfectStraight. The first record was a cute little 7" entitled Pizza Dealer which ended up garnering quite a bit of success with plays from tastemakers across the globe. Since then, the Aguascalientes, México-based producer has put out a single on a VA for Whyte Numbers (recently played by Move D in his Boiler Room Berlin 6th anniversary session) and a digital download as well via his own label. Now, he's prepped his first 12" for release with the title track and our premiere today, Feel Me, being the main reason as to why the label is more than just a concept, 2 years after the initial idea was born.

What's immediately noticeable about Funken Wavetropi's productions is the funky and bouncy bassline in each tune and it is once again front and centre on Feel Me. This one's got a classic deep house vibe about it with a more modern twist. The swelling chords, sampled diva-esque vocal shout and vintage horns are all reminiscent of the 90's, but the accompanying synth work and bubbly bass are what give it its contemporary flare. The track is also a bit of a burner, gradually evolving as it progresses on its 7 minute journey and we're sure it's going to get some serious emotions flowing on the dance floor.

Vinyl heads beware, the record which is pressed on transparent vinyl will only have 150 copies available, so be sure to get your pre-orders in.

There's a whole lot that goes into a moniker and with a name like Midnight Tenderness (Ryan Hunter), you'd best pay attention! Hailing from the greatest country on earth, (Australia) this fellow's been entrenched in the Melbourne dance community for quite some time. From hosting radio shows with revered selectors Loose Joints to teaming up with compadre Rings Around Saturn as Turner Street Sound for the recent slamming EP 'Bunsens Vol.1', Ryan's got his fingers in a few pies.

Thankfully for us, this dude of late night sentiment is also exploring the solo avenue. Meet the 'Refresco' EP., a suitable companion for both a home system and a set of technics out through my hometown's Ken Oath Records (Sydney, Australia).

Our focus track is the lead 'Refresco'. Think an informative tour through the outer reaches of our solar system. Think that feeling you get when the guide almost feels like a close friend when it all winds up. Shimmering synth play and 707 cowbells define the piece, throw in some gorgeous pads and bass and we've got a pretty tasty treat. I'd coin 'Refresco' a beautiful battery, one of those tracks to whip you back into dance if and when you're at all faltering. See what all the fuss is about and get carried away with Midnight Tenderness...boy it's a great name!
