Iconic Synth created in 1970 but still a King today as much for giving your Music a Vintage vibe as bringing that solid cutting-through sound that fits perfectly well for modern Electronic compositions.
It's called "Moogy Wild Mood" because of the Moog, of course but also because the track is carried by the Wonderful voice of Rachel K. Collier coming from her beautiful and meaningful song "Stay Wild" !

MOOGY WILD MOOD Feat. RKC

Hi everyone !
This a cover of the first disc I bought in... 1986....
Before starting playing or recording anything, I took a moment to think about how I would make that possible... yes because there was 3 important points to fix : 

1) The vocals :
I'm not a singer at all and even if I know a bunch of singers who would be keen to help me, not everyone is able to sing "that" song, sung by Joey Tempest. It requires a wide vocal range and even if you hit the highest note (that's already super cool) then you need to do it with Power.... and there, that's a very different story, let me tell you.... Fortunately I knew the man for that job !

2) The Guitars : 
I'm not a guitarist either but.... I'm a Seaboardist. And thanks to ROLI Equator2 and my Seaboard I can play "almost like" a guitar doing slides and bends.
Pay attention to the Guitar Solo part, it's a Synth sound, yes, a Synth !  😊 

3) The SynthBrass : 
According many specialists, "The Final Countdown" is a song with one of the most iconic Synth sound in History. As it's a bit my speciality to re-create vintage sounds with modern tools, I couldn't screw up this particular one. When I start working on Sound Design, I write down on a paper sheet some words and adjectives to describe my vision and feeling about the sound. I had 2 images in my mind : A King announced by his Horn and Brass players and the Scandinavian God Thor wielding his hammer "Mjolnir", throwing lightning bolts ! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
So here, the words were : Strong, Royal, Majestic, Stab, Fast attack+spread and Power. I let you judge if I succeeded or not to translate my thoughts into a real produced sound. 😉


I had a lot of Fun working on that project.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN (Cover by Moss & VonBeardingham)

Hi everyone !
It's been a year.... yes... one year since the first track was published here.
What a long way in terms of learning, knowledge, improvement and short in the perspective of what I'll still learn during the forthcoming ones.  😊
I wanted that anniversary to be happy. The selected guideline words for that track were : Good vibe, Happiness, Summerish, Funky and "Cosmic Girl" as an inspiration.  So, this time I wanted to explore the Funk genre ! And for that I called my friend Yoann who is a Master Bass Player to teach me and give me some tips and tricks about how to play the Funky Slap Bass with the famous "Ghost notes". And that said... well, I'm not a Bass player so I had to translate that into a Keyboard playing technique and instance, on the Seaboard to keep the vibe and feeling. It took me 2 weeks to train and "master" that and it turns out that I might be a pretty decent Seaboard-Bass player for Bass parts. 😉
It's Summer even if the Sun is not really there but again, I wanted to produce something cool, nice, happy. Special mention to RKC for some vocals stems from "Predicted Dreams". Oh and I added some cool percussions : Maracas, Triangle and even the Cowbell ! Haha #SnlMoreCowbell. 😁

FUNKY ANNIVERSARY Feat. RKC

Back in 2014, I met hundreds of musicians and singers on an online music collaborative website called "BandHub". We could organize collabs and record our parts to create covers and sometimes participate on Originals. The quality was not impressive because of the bandwidth and high compression but that was a lot of Fun. In 2017 the website was shut down, lacking money... but I met incredible people I kept in touch with.

Today, we are in 2021 and I wanted to "virtually" gather around me a few of them and create the conditions to be able to record a song all together ! 
We called ourselves for that occasion the "M4" because we are 4 and all our nicknames start with an "M".  😉
This is an International collab including : 
MzMieux aka Claire from Canada, Singer.
MaSoizig aka Karine from France, Singer, who was there last year.
Miszak from Poland, Guitar player.
And me Moss as Keys player, Seaboardist, Organizer and Producer for that project.

About the Christmas' spirit, I imagined that we could all be there in the same house, in the living room, playing and singing that song.
I asked Claire and Karine to sing close to their Mic, without reverb, because I wanted to produce a real and genuine moment of proximity like if they were both right in front of you.
So let me invite everyone here to take a seat with us in front of our fireplace to share a nice, warm and intimate moment.

M4 - O'HOLY NIGHT (Christmas 2021)

We have the pleasure to announce that a new Bass line was born last week at the Moss Lab.
That lovely baby is doing well, plucky and bouncing at will and it grew very quickly over the last days, gained Groove and became a Super-Friggin-Funky Bass line that naturally found its place at the core of the project.

Inspired by the Summer Vibe, influenced by Eric PRYDZ and Michael GRAY, it crossed the path of Gabrielle's song "Afterglow".
I used a RePhrasing process to go through her vocals, move the syllables individually to create a brand new Flow that gives a new temperament and character to her beautiful lyrics.
And suddenly, it happened, it was a match !

This is based on a Remix from Palus on which I brought the MossTouch in homage to Justice and Daft Punk.

KT Celebration - [KnobTwisters Meet Up 2024 | Berlin]

Today is about a "Samples Only" Production !
So, we'll start our journey in Berlin where all these samples were recorded and I'll transport you on the other side of the ocean, to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil !
The "ZOOM0019_LR.WAV" sample is the one that instantly brought me a Brazilian's vibe.
From there, let me describe the scene to you.
It's sunset, the weather is still warm and a group of 10 Capoeiristas gather in a circle on the beach, forming the "Roda".
You can feel the concentration, the tension and already see the sweat on all these bodies after their warm-up. And to add a little touch of shamanism, they have just drunk a drink made from coca leaves.
The "fight" starts, their graceful moves and stances lead them into a trance, the substance diffuses and their senses are slowly affected, everything becomes a bit blurry, in slow motion and they dedicate their dance to the spirits to reach the awakening...

On the technical aspect, big shout out to the amazing Logic Pro "Beat Breaker" and "Sampler" for their powerful toolbox that made some effects possible !

Like an alchemist's dream, synthesis transforms elements, not by elimination, but through unity, improvising new possibilities from established themes.
Synthesis also recognizes the hidden harmonies in apparent opposition, to find the meeting point between thesis and antithesis, to discover that in the end, everything connects, converges and transforms to create synergy.

Does "WORKING HARDER MAKE IT BETTER" ?
That’s a question that comes from "A CROSS THE UNIVERSE".  😉

In October, Elaisa offered to share the stems of her song “Almost There“.
There were the original stems and a second set from a Live acoustic version.
The acoustic vocals quickly caught my ears’ attention, noting a certain freedom in phrasing with a particular spontaneity and temper.
The idea came to me instantly…

I asked Elaisa if she would mind if I went completely against traditional EDM-style remixes, and she said “Yes“ !
So, with her agreement, we’re going for a ride in a fantasy world where witchcraft exists...
To fit into this universe, I traded my trusty Funky Bass (my seaboard) for an Electric Guitar (my seaboard too 😂) as a tribute to David Gilmour, Brian May and Slash, my Guitar Heroes.
Now, let us enter into the Enchanted Forest to meet the Host of this place, as the next Coven ritual is about to begin…

Elaisa Mancini - Almost There [Coven MossMix]

International Women Day :
This year, my intention was to celebrate not one, but two remarkable female artists
by spotlighting the renowned London-based DJs, Music Producers Duo
and Stars of the Anjuna label : Eliza Noble and Jennifer Skillman, famously known as "Eli & Fur".

The Hit that made them famous was originally released in 2013 and subsequently re-issued in 2023 for a special '10 years on’ edition, is an iconic piece within the Deep House movement.

I’ve chosen to create a "punchy" remix of that song and to drive the point home, using Live 12, finding my bearings with the DAW by forcing myself to use it exclusively for the last month.
Little confession : I'm right-handed and my left hand was constantly slapping my right hand to prevent it from clicking to open Logic Pro when I felt blocked, not finding the feature or option I needed.  😂
But "THAT'S THE WAY" would say the Mandalorian !
Immersing ourselves with a few constraints is certainly the best way to learn and progress faster! 

So... Here is the result : "You're So High" but... isn't it "Too High" ?  😉

This track comes from a beautiful vocal sample by Manon_Underscore and it led me on the path of a sort of Nathan Drake exploring a temple and finding a giant rotating metallic golden sphere whose mystery he must decipher...
Another opportunity for me to play like my fave Guitar Heroes (David Gilmour, Brian May, Mark Knopfler or the late Jeff Beck).

This is what Pride means : the Courage to be authentic and the joy that comes from celebrating each other exactly as we are.

To illustrate that, I chose an iconic SynthPop song from 1994 written by Andy BELL and Vince CLARKE that precisely talks about unconditional love and which got a second wind in 2010 when it was used as the soundtrack of a video game (Robot Unicorn).
I love that song and its original arrangement that I kept so, I produced a kind of "coverix", halfway between a cover and a remix, simply giving it :
- more BPM,
- more Loudness,
- more SynthBass,
- more Voices, Harmonies and Vocoders,
MORE of all the things we love to make it sound more danceable and ethereal at the same time.

The challenge was to produce a song, original, cover or remix related to the city of Bristol. I chose to remix the "Glory Box" from Portishead which is such a beautiful but sad song and transform it into a "Funky Box" !
I started that project with one idea in mind : Composing and Producing a Knobtwisters Community Anthem ! 
This is : Knobtwisters Dancing The Night !!!

The 7th Symphony by my dear friend Ludwig van Beethoven has, unintentionally, accompanied significant periods in my life, several times.
I wanted to pay tribute to it.

Often used to illustrate dramas, conflicts, and wars, I wanted to take a different approach with a different arrangement, offering a more modern, cinematic and even more... sexy version to illustrate "Love" and "Passion".
Thank you, my fellow Fender Rhodes !   🎹  💜

Along the way, I imagined a short film featuring a young couple in their early twenties, their meeting, the playful glances, the undeniable connection...
Their bickering, their bursts of laughter, a few tears too, the budding complicity and the growing Love they feel for each other, culminating in the ardor and overwhelming Passion that sweeps everything away !

Alongside that, I was thinking about Ludwig, wondering what he would have done if he'd had a guitar in his hands...
Translating the energy and power of his finale in the 7th Symphony in my own way, I couldn't imagine him any other way than as a virtuoso metalhead unleashing Shred-style solos !

And from there came the idea for the "Total Concept": Crescendo !!!

RKC - NO DEEPER ESCAPE (Adventure MossMix)

Hi everyone ! This is our cover of a famous french Christmas song called "Petit Papa Noël" sung by Tino Rossi in 1946.
After testing different tonalities to fit to Karine's voice, we agreed on minus 6.
Obviously, half an octave is a lot and that radically changed the mood and atmosphere of the original song making it sounding a bit more mellow, dramatic and statutory like a national anthem. That said... in the end, I really like where we ended up because it highlights even more Karine and gives her the place she deserves. 😊
Regarding the instrumentation, I went full Cello with 2 tracks : the first one to follow and accompany the voice, underlining it and the second one to carry the song with the chords, harmonies and special accentuations bringing the MPE technology to reproduce the movement of the bow, rubbing and scratching the strings of the Cello.
