Timnah Sommerfeld’s signature approach to earthy dance music has been tried, tested and approved by swinging hips all over Europe. Developing her style from age 17 onwards, when she started playing in squats and industrial spaces around Basel, she’s continuously making her mark with warm, reverberating techno cuts from across the spectrum. During her residencies at Hinterhof Bar and nowadays, Elysia, Sommerfeldt’s sets fluently cover (and transcend) shades of electro, techno and house music, establishing her as a firm favorite amongst dancers and peers. Smooth mixing skills, strong emotional narratives and an intuitive understanding of dancefloor dynamics continue to define her style, seamlessly cruising through the small hours of the night.

Originally from Galicia, Alicia Carrera is a visual artist, founder of the @liopress platform and co-founder of the @magacircemusica label with @donato-dozzy.

Constantly exploring new sounds, her sets always depart from the commonplace to recreate movement and evoke a sense of travel. Because when it comes to self-emancipation, the first thing to do is to allow yourself to be transported through your senses.

Nico grew up in a small coastal town in Galicia in the late 80s. In 2008, he started to involve himself with deeper shades of electronic music and their profound sentimental atmospheres. His interest became an obsession, and within two years he began to play in clubs across the Spanish northwest. 

According to the artist, he was influenced by a golden generation of local DJs who helped define and shape his sound in terms of dance music, along with a rounded love of legendary bands and artists from across the musical spectrum. His musical philosophy is that everyone has something to bring, so there is always something to learn. 

In 2015, Nico moved to Barcelona, expanding his horizons both artistically and personally. He’s currently  one of the residents of the renowned Nitsa Club, and together with the duo Binomi, is responsible for HIRU, a multi-venue party across the city designed as an ode to club culture.

Nico prefers not to pigeonhole himself into any particular style, but his sets are nothing short of hypnotic. When he plays, he looks for that peculiar sensory union with the dance floor that connects them without words, seeking to lead the night in the same direction together.

Coming from Japan and living in Barcelona the last five years, Kazumi Sakoda is a curious artist who investigates the differences she finds with the soundscapes of her native Tokyo through the sounds she picks up on the streets of Barcelona.

All this material, she transforms it into cassettes that she makes by hand and through a fine use of looping and sampling techniques she recontextualizes into beautiful soundscapes that travel between ambient and experimental music.

She said in El Prat Radio 91.6 FM: "After the pandemic, everything has changed and people are more sensitive than beforehand. The feelings are stronger than before because we know what is the most important thing in life, what to feel. That is why on the same street there is a quite different experience from before the pandemic.”

Laima Adelaide is a composer and electronic music producer. Her music is inspired by nature and its elements like water and air. Also, there is influence from avant-garde music, as she has studied classical composition in Stuttgart.

Noisy textures, deep hypnotic beats and airy harmony you can find in her music and live performances. She has released on Oslated, Phonotropsimi, Annulled Music and others.

She has her own label Predawn Records focusing on deep and ambient techno.

Enigmatic producer and DJ Aa Sudd (Vector Trancer) explores the more hypnotic and alluring realms of sound. Based in Germany, he delves into irregular rhythms, immersive atmospheres and kaleidoscopic patterns, transmitting his sound via labels such as Midgar or Mirror Zone. With a focus on the captivating and the otherworldly, Aa Sudd delivers enveloping sets and productions, fusing elements of techno and experimental drum and bass to create a psychedelic listening experience.

Aa Sudd collaborated with artist Konduku to form the project “Konsudd” releasing their first EP on the closely connected swiss label Amenthia Recordings (Garçon, Timnah, Agonis) in late 2022.

@puntalaberinto performed on the second day of #Mostra23 at Hangar.

Puntalaberinto (Patricia Usero) has been immersed in the sonic universe of modular synthesizers and the construction of DIY instruments for more than a decade.

Her live performances go deep, striving to transform the sonic experience into a physical and meditative encounter for her audience.

The modular synthesizer is her main instrument through which field recordings are filtered and mutated, creating hypnotic soundscapes, drone floods, organic textures, powerful subs and evocative dub rhythms.

A weird rift in nature... that deviates from conventional narratives.

Puntalaberinto @ Mostra 2023 🖤

Class 1990, @viels was born in a little city outside Milan (Italy). Early in his adolescence he discovered techno culture inspired by a book called “TECHNO“ by Christian Zingales. Having released his first Ep on Initial Berlin in 2015, Viels continued his musical path appearing with a track on the well respected dutch imprint Dynamic Reflection, followed by his debut ep “Distrophism” and contributing for the 10 years anniversary of the label, among some of the most recognised artists in the scene: Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker, Shifted, Oscar Mulero, Blawan, Ness, Jeroen Search and many more.

Co-owner with Francesco della Sala of “End Of Perception”, Viels just released also on label such Warm Up, Non Series, Mord, and Semantica Records.
At the moment he is resident of the Acquario party in Milano and an active part of the organization of it.

With an increasing interest and having performed in quality clubs like Tresor, Perron, Cassette, Schron and shared the booth with the likes of Oscar Mulero, Svreca and Dasha Rush to name a few, Viels is establishing himself as part of a new wave of djs and producers approaching the contemporary techno scene.

Forest Drive West is the alias of producer Joe Baker from Plaistow, East London. His music has created a stir across the UK underground and beyond, with stripped-down, atmospheric and hypnotic techno tracks contrasting with his heavier, jungle-influenced sounds – all with a connecting thread that explores intricate rhythms and inventive percussion.

Since 2016, Forest Drive West has been building a rapidly growing catalogue of releases, receiving critical acclaim for records on labels such as Livity Sound, Ilian Tape and Rupture London. His ‘Jungle Crack' and ‘Set free’ EPs show a stunning command of sound design and complex rhythms, and they remain some of Rupture London's most sought-after releases.

Patrick Russell is a true veteran of the US underground, perhaps one of the last unsung heroes of a now lost era in the Midwest. A genuine sonic storyteller, he magically transforms the diaspora of acid, pure jack energy, and hints of IDM into a deep, fluent sonic dialog that never fails to devastate both minds and dance floor.

A Detroit-bred DJ, artist, and producer active since the early 90's, Patrick has now made New York City his home. Perhaps best known as a key figure in the legendary No Way Back parties, his ability to weave intensely unique, long-format narratives has earned him critical acclaim and repeat performances at Japan’s Labyrinth festival, Berghain, Unsound, and DEMF/Movement. Patrick has also been steadily building a strong catalog of high-profile productions to compliment his increasingly varied, hypnotic, and in-demand DJ sets; his recent 3-track remix EP on The Bunker New York also marks his induction as an official resident DJ at the long-running Brooklyn party.

His consummate taste and disciplined execution have created a respect that cannot be purchased. Patrick Russell is not just a name to watch, he is someone to be experienced.

Technology as the number one source of inspiration. Real time musical programming, unlimited improvisation and experimentation. Stretching the boundaries of electronic music.
Atom™ and Tobias. have been two key figures in the development of European ‘techno’ from the very beginning. Active since the 1980s, both artists have represented major cogs in the community. 1990 marks their first collaborative performance in Frankfurt, emerging as one of the first live shows ever played within this scene. From here the two started a journey of sonic explorations which led them to release the mighty “Elektroniikkaa” live recording from Helsinki and Montreux. Their subsequent releases are all derivatives of live performances, which consistently remain the number one focus.

Despite a spatial separation given by Atom’s relocation to Chile and Tobias’ to Berlin, upon reconnecting with the machines in 2003 creative flow surged spontaneously. Throughout the expressive tool of live performance, Atom™ and Tobias are able to create sound through an eccentrical deviation from all musical standards and a total adaptation to their environment.

This is the core of their improvisations: a total abandonment to each other's creativity, in which their consciousnesses merge and flow into the instruments in front of them.
Having both experienced three decades of music and some of the world’s most exceptional dance floors such as Berghain or Panorama Bar, their knowledge of the sonic realm is limitless. Their latest performances have reached clubs such as Kyiv’s Closer to Japan’s Labyrinth Festival in Japan.

Warm, emotive, and explorative - a set of characteristics that make up the enchanting vision of Zara (@zaraolsen), one of the most exciting talents hailing from the Australian scene. Whether it’s IDM, drum and bass, or techno, the Kinesis label-head fuses it all with an enigmatic sense of delicacy. Her distinctive sound on the crossroads of the calm and the energetic resulted in releases on labels such as Animalia, Salt Mines, and Pure Space. Her sets have been turning heads within the international electronic music scene, playing at places like De School, Tresor, and Donato Dozzy’s Spazio Disponsible label showcase. Harmonizing the ethereal and the ominous - Zara takes a gentle yet firm grip on minds and souls on and off the dancefloor.

Mostra (@mostrabcn) is an independent, small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music which emerged by the end of 2021 as a counterpoint to the macro-festivals and the overcrowded, commercial and impersonal offerings of other large events held in Barcelona. Mostra will be celebrating its fourth edition from 17 to 20 April in 2025.

HOCast #223 x Mostra - Zara

There’s something special about clicking with someone musically, aesthetically, and on a human level. That’s exactly how we feel about our collaboration with Mostra Festival, which is entering its third year. We’re thrilled to introduce some of the talent performing at the 2025 edition and to continue this creative exchange with our friends from Spain.

Mostra 2025 happens April 17-20 at two brand-new locations. With two waves of artists already announced, it’s clear that the high bar set by previous editions has once again been met. Expect the finest in ambient, experimental, avant-garde, and techno. The final wave of artists will be revealed tomorrow, February 12—keep an eye on the festival’s socials for the full announcement. More details on the lineup, new venues, and everything Mostra-related will be coming soon to our page.

Today’s guest mix comes from an artist we’ve been following closely: Mariachiara Troianiello, aka Katatonic Silentio. An Italian producer, DJ, and researcher, she moves between electronic music, performing arts, and sound studies, blending abstraction with club energy. Active as a DJ for over 15 years, her sets oscillate between an analog past and a fast-moving future—sometimes dreamy and introspective, other times razor-sharp and unpredictable.
This January, she was part of ExtraMostra event at Berlin’s OHM, where Mostra & Midgar joined forces. Alongside DjSport, Forest Drive West, Keplrr, and Severja, she delivered a mind-bending set in a packed-out club that couldn’t fit everyone who wanted in.

For her guest mix in our series, Katatonic Silentio explores dub techno in her own meticulous way—controlled, intentional, and always with a sense of movement. The first hour plays with restraint, each track given space to breathe, while subtle shifts build an unspoken tension. Just when you think you’ve settled into the groove, she nudges things into unexpected territory—tightening the pulse, throwing in off-kilter patterns, and steering toward a more kinetic, unpredictable second hour. It’s a mix that keeps you on your toes, unfolding with precision rather than force. A refined trip from an artist who never takes the obvious route.

"A journey through rhythmic and sonic experimentation - pulsating frequencies, evolving atmospheres, and shifting patterns. An intricate and unconventional exploration, where complexity meets bold innovation. A complex, intriguing, and electrifying experience."

gi (@gistrung) is a musician from Gadi (Sydney). Her sound blurs the outer limits of drone, idm and techno, interested in how generative sound design and asynchronous repetition can coalesce to create emotional music. Following self-released sketches in 2022, and contributions to compilations by Comic Sans Records (FR), Pure Space (AUS), Twin System (UK), Companion (AUS) she released her debut EP on Altered States Tapes in October 2023 and follow-up liveset EP on Beyond the Bridge (Seoul) in March 2024. In 2024 gi presented her debut album on Absorb (AUS) and launched the World of Knots label, while continuing to refine her unique style of warehouse oriented experimentalism, across live and DJ sets.

There is a big black heart in Barcelona that it is still beating. Three weeks later, we’re still digesting the magic that was the fourth edition of Mostra festival. From the most intimate listening moments to collective catharsis on the dancefloor, this year was something else.

Starting from the end this year, we’re proud to present the recorded closing set from Mostra's resident ABSIS, who delivered a deeply emotional finale that distilled everything Mostra stands for: a blend of force, finesse, energy and passion — all woven into one.

Across four editions, countless moments, different days and stages, ABSIS has always been there: reading the different dance floors, adapting, connecting the dots between sound and feelings. Being a resident is more than just playing; it’s embodying the festival’s pulse, giving it identity and continuity, and raising the collective experience to another level.

If you’ve journeyed with Mostra through the years, you know how central ABSIS (alongside Timnah and Patrick Russell) has been to shaping that Mostra spirit. If you haven’t yet, you may find the chance next year.

And now, for the first time: ABSIS closing the festival. A powerful tribute to what it means to support the local scene, not just by listing names from the city, but by creating moments like this one that matters.

ILAY, a 19 year-old sound artist behind the alias @ilayruni, works at the crossroads of electronic music and percussive instruments. Emerging as a new entity within the electronic landscape, Bastien steps forward from the shadows of past identities and older sounds. His latest evolution dives deep into vast, textured realms of drone and ambient, weaving together horizontal soundscapes with touches of lo-fi, experimental tones, and avant-garde sensibilities. With subtle hints of dub, profound bass drones, and layered textures, Bastien’s music holds an immersive quality that transports listeners to an otherworldly space.

His work finds a home on the Red Edge label, with his album Temps Boro marking a sonic journey that feels as meditative as it is intense. Festival-goers can expect an experience both introspective and expansive—a sound that doesn’t merely fill the space but transforms it, inviting each listener to lose themselves in the echoing depths and resonance of Bastien’s unique soundscape.

Madelyn Byrd (they/them, b. 1992) is an educator, musician, DJ, and worldbuilding practitioner based in Berlin. Their creative and educational work implements decolonial, hydrofeminist and queer ecology to investigate possibilia and the “sympoietics” of co-becoming to promote synergistic social transformation beyond human-centred perspectives. Byrd fosters a deeply collaborative, interdisciplinary spirit to deconstruct and reconstruct the perceptual realm, weaving field recording, intricate sound design, spoken word, and somatics. Madelyn holds a Masters in Neuroaesthetics from Goldsmiths, where they researched the impact of collaborative imagination on measures of connection and hope in social praxis art. They teach critical theory + music production courses on sonic worldbuilding with Soundial. They are a current resident in Zurich University of the Art’s School of Commons (SoC), 2025 with collaborator Lou Croff Blake to develop their project, Chimera.

@slowfoam is Byrd’s all-encompassing, genre-defying music moniker. They create speculative post-human dialogues and para-worlds, sculpting a/biotic textures from electroacoustics, field recording, feedback, granulated synthesis, drones, and spoken word. Their playful sonic tapestries are spatially triggered and adapted to deep-listening environments, clubs, and everything in between. They have performed and toured extensively, including recent performances at Subbacultcha (NL), Cafe Oto (London), The Lab (San Francisco), Morse (Tokyo), and Morphine Raum (Berlin). Their discography has been published on Somewhere Press, Mappa, and Jungle Gym Records. Slowfoam is a former resident at Internet Public Radio, where they curated their monthly show, Our Tomorrow. Their work has yielded features on Bandcamp, Electronic Sound Mag, DJ Mag, First Impressions, Pitchfork, Boomkat, The Wire Magazine, and Futurism Restated.

Mostra and Deep Breakfast Series are collaborating for a second year to bring you home some of the sounds that echoed through the festival’s unique spaces. Mostra is an intimate, independent festival dedicated to forward-thinking and experimental electronic music, taking place over four days in Barcelona.

Among the featured performances was nigul, the ambient drone project of Jaume Muntsant (also known as Droneghost). Active since 2004, nigul explores themes of darkness and fear through dense sonic textures, field recordings, and evolving soundscapes. His hybrid set unfolded on the second day of performances at Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació.

'It was truly exciting to premiere my new album Música Aperta at the Mostra Festival, in such a carefully curated environment with an audience so devoted to the sound experience. The design of the space — in total darkness and surrounded by an exquisite sound system — created a collective sound meditation room for more than 10 hours each day, a unique experience that I had never seen at a festival before.

Música Aperta is an electroacoustic piece and immersive performance that explores the perception of time through sound. Using string textures, bowls, and organs, the music cultivates an atmosphere of active stillness and contemplation, inviting the exercise of deep listening. In this context, Mostra was the perfect place to express the concept of the album, which is essentially about creating a space of resistance to the fast pace of modern life. I'm super thankful to the festival team and the audience! "

Human Lessons #117 - Nicolas Melmann(Live)@Mostra 2025 [Human Lessons × Mostra]

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of attending the fourth edition of Mostra, one of the most beautiful, safe, and welcoming gatherings we've ever experienced. It was an intimate, four-day festival in the city of Barcelona dedicated to exploring experimental electronic music and the avant-garde — expertly curated and surrounded by a beautiful community of like-minded souls who treated us like family.

On the second day of the festival at Fabra i Coats — inside one of the most respectful and attentive listening rooms, with an audience whose silence drew you even deeper into the sound — Detroit legend and Mostra resident Patrick Russell took his place in the booth, seated this year, and delivered a deeply moving and powerful sonic trip — one we’re honored to share with you today.

A big thank you to Patrick and Mostra for giving us the opportunity to share one of our favourite performances of the festival.

Mostra x The Observatory - Patrick Russell

LEVL performed on the third day of #Mostra25 at the Vall d'Hebron Olympic Pavilion.

Forest Drive West, Felix K and DB1 are LEVL. Together, they explore the murky territory between drum & bass, techno and experimental electronics, crafting a distinctive sound that defies the boundaries of genre. The trio's collaboration began with DB1 and Forest Drive West putting out music through Berlin-based Felix K’s label Hidden Hawaii, which led to the formation of LEVL: a combination of each artist’s unique production approach that creates a cohesive and innovative sound. 

LEVL's debut release, “LEVL#1”, was issued in 2019 on Arcola, a sub-label of Warp Records, a bass- and breaks-heavy record showcasing their ability to blend ambient textures with complex rhythms. “LEVL#2”, on Felix K's Nullpunkt label, further explores the intersection of ambient, drum & bass and techno.

Beyond their recorded output, LEVL brings a strong energy to live performances, delivering an immersive and genre-bending musical experience. With meticulous attention to detail, the group pushes the boundaries of electronic music through soundscapes that challenge and captivate listeners.

Clubs, festivals, theaters, football stadiums, museums, beaches, mountains and beyond - Peter Van Hoesen's take on visceral techno has been presented worldwide in many different settings for nearly two decades.

One central element always remains: a deep love and understanding of sound and all its influential effects. Peter Van Hoesen runs Time To Express and Center 91. Together with AtomTM he is SYNC. - a live techno project focused on improvisation and collaboration. Together with Yves De Mey he is Sendai, a forward looking experimental outfit with releases on Editions Mego, Archives Intérieures, Konstrukt and Stroboscopic Artefacts.

Lotus Eater is a duo consisting of Luca Mortellaro (@lucy) and Seth Horvitz (@rrose1921), techno artists just as comfortable operating in the uncharted area of experimental music who have gained a cult following, both influencing and challenging the direction of contemporary electronic music.

Eschewing the typical instrumentation of techno but still inhabiting its archetypes, Lotus Eater uses synthesised sound and feedback as fundamental sources to generate both textural and percussive elements. A sense of tension and weight emerge from sources that cannot be easily pinpointed. Each release forms a complex narrative from a paradoxically simple and restrained set of sound sources.

Officially formed in 2017, Lotus Eater came to life through several collaborations over a number of years, and finally blossomed with the release of its critically acclaimed debut album "Desatura," which Lotus Eater toured live in 2018 - 2019.

2022 sees the release of the second Lotus Eater album "Plasma" and a new audiovisual live project to accompany it. "Plasma" unfolds with exacting precision by exhibiting a point of focus and expanding on it. It uses a single, throbbing pulse to generate a constellation of sounds and rhythms that form around it like a volcanic eruption in slow motion. Playing with our sense of time and weight, "Plasma" feels simultaneously slow and urgent, spacious and immense. Lotus Eater zooms into the infinite abyss and finds not just light, but fire at the end of the tunnel. Will we be saved, or will we burn?

@ena-iai is a music producer from and based in Tokyo. He is a major player in the Japanese underground dance music scene for more than a decade. Taking influences from early drum & bass productions, rave sound and abstract hip hop, ENA is recognized for his tight production techniques and massive audio dynamics. Uncompromising, forward thinking and unique, his releases on 7even Recordings, Horo and Latency brought international attention and have led to collaborations with like-minded virtuosos such as Felix K and Rashad Becker which were both invited to perform on the main stage of Berlin Atonal festival (in 2016 and 2017 respectively).  As a DJ, he has been playing regularly in the main clubs in Tokyo such as Unit, Contact, WWW  and Club Asia as well as underground haunts like Forestlimit and Soup for many years. His expert music selection and technical excellence continues to impress the audience in and outside of Japan. Having toured Asia and Europe numerous times and appearing in wide range of prominent international festivals such as Berlin Atonal, rural, Fibre, Mapping and Sun and Bass in the past few years, he is establishing himself as a singular performer fitted to deliver a primetime rave set to a gritty basement fix to abstracted sonic experiments.

ENA - Live - @ Mostra 2025 🖤

Some collaborations feel orchestrated. This one felt inevitable. Reeko and Mostra share a certain DNA - innovative, uncompromising, with an appetite for risk. One’s a festival, the other a force of nature, but both operate outside the usual margins. So when Reeko stepped into the cavernous Pavelló Olímpic on the final day of Mostra 2025, the match didn’t need explaining. After three days of sonic overstimulation, the crowd could’ve easily slipped into post-peak autopilot. Instead, something sparked.

Reeko played with the confidence of someone who doesn’t need to raise his voice to be heard. He didn’t grab attention, instead he tuned the room to his frequency. No spectacle, just sustained pressure. The kind that doesn’t shout, but hums somewhere in your bones. From the first mix, he had total control, not just over tempo, but over tension, perception, direction. It wasn’t peak-time euphoria. It was something colder, sharper, more elemental.

What happened on that floor wasn’t mystical, and it wasn’t romantic. It was human circuitry, bodies moving like they’d been rewired. A dance floor fully switched on. In a festival stacked with standout sets, this one kept floating to the surface in post-Mostra conversations. We’re proud to share this recording. It was special. Now it’s permanent.

Delayed x Mostra: Reeko

"A subtle spark to open the Mostra journey. An experimental flow tinged with psychedelic and ambient edges, where curiosity leads and expectation quietly builds. It’s not about arrival, but about opening a space where sound begins to breathe."

Marylou (@maryloudj) is a French DJ and sound artist based in Berlin, known for her genre-defying and cinematic sets. Moving seamlessly between dub, noise, traditional music, improv jazz, footwork and breakcore, she crafts deeply immersive sonic journeys. A former affiliate of Morphine Records, YOUTH and Ominira, she’s also part of the Wheel of Fortune collective (with rRoxymore, CCL, Nono Gigsta). She was selected as part of the SHAPE+ platform’s 2024–2025 artist roster, and has performed at key festivals and venues including Atonal, Terraforma, CTM, Freerotation, pe:rsona, Café Oto, and Berghain. Influenced by her background in visual arts and cinema, Marylou’s style is both psychedelic and precise, informed by her years hosting shows on Rinse FM, NTS and Refuge Worldwide.

Rachael (@rachael_um) is a Madrid-based DJ whose initial interests, mainly circumscribed to electro, techno and hardcore continuum, broadened through the exploration of diverse forms. Characterised by the use of vinyl as a preferred mixing medium, her style is confident, unadorned and dynamic: Rachael's sets are living structures that, adapted to the demands of the dance floor, develop into unexpected territories or settle incisively in a progressively expanding zone.  A regular in the country's DJ booths, her name appears on the line-ups of venues and festivals such as Soundit Festival, Mostra, Volumens, Festival Perpendicular, Razzmatazz, Laut, Dabadaba, Jimmy Jazz, Upload, Villanos, Siroco and Cosmos, and at events such as Human, Dialektik, Golpe de Amistad, Canino, Onyro and Tombolo.
