Portuguese DJ & Producer Holldën will release his first EP with Berlin's Second State on 05.11.

Holldën is a techno DJ and producer from Portugal. He began playing in 2001, inspired by a common love of techno among his friends, the Algarve rave circuit, and regular outings at local clubs, where he studied up close some of the greatest techno acts in the world.

Following a lengthy hiatus from the music scene, he resurfaced in 2016 to found his own imprint Kuiper Noise. Later he designed and hosted The Outpost, a techno radio show aired on Radio Solar FM.

His own releases have been featured on labels such as Second State, Affekt, Sample+Hold, Out-Er, Rhod, TMM, etc, and his music has been remixed by the likes of Temudo, Patrik Skoog, Astronomy Domine, or Fixon.

His release "Kindness Of Killers", reached no. 4 in Junodowload's coveted techno chart. In 2018 he joined Lisbon's notorious techno collective Disturb •

Following four acclaimed EPs across both Rekids and Rekids Special Projects, the Irish-born, Berlin-based Hybrasil returns to Radio Slave’s techno-focused imprint for his fifth appearance on the Rekids labels. Bringing four no-nonsense techno cuts across ‘Wild Blue Yonder’, Hybrasil displays his knack for crafting a wide range of deeply playable dancefloor-friendly techno.

Title track ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ leads with pounding kicks and bubbling stabs before ‘Abhean’ brings the tempo up as gritty synths unfurl across razor-sharp drum patterns. ‘Erimon’ takes a deeper turn, with dubbed-out chords and reverberant hits rumbling throughout, followed by the final track ‘Oenach’. In a similar fashion to the ‘Erimon’, elements of classic dub techno meet Hybrasil’s pitch-perfect production to close out the release.

Field Records is to release a two-CD compilation and three vinyl samplers of music from the label's artists old and new entitled simply, Collection.

This second sampler pulls together three tracks of deep, dubby and ambient music from French producer duo Polar Inertia, Remote_ and Sweden's Varg. His track 'Ohns Odegard' is a serene and autumnal bit of ambient with swollen pads and incidental synths making for a soothing atmosphere. Remote_'s 'Echo Of You' is just as wide open and serene but has a warm, rubbery pulse driving it along and finally Polar Inertia gets a little frazzled and intense with their loopy slow techno roller 'Sonic Outlaws'.

OVERVIEW:
Time for the second black label M_Rec Ltd 10”, a series of no-frills vinyl records used by Max_M to deliver dancefloor oriented tracks to djs and techno fans around the world.

On one side, Max_M delivers an irresistible joint that thanks to layers and layers of elements manages to surprise beginning to end. That high pitch bell sound, which is somehow becoming a trademark in Max_M’s productions, splits in multiple directions generating soulful melodies and grooves. A perfect track for peak time.

Fabrizio Lapiana’s cut is an introspective journey rich in modular-fueled melodies. Its mellow refrains pay tribute to ambient classics and trippy British electronica, while the drum programming sets the track into a techno context, groovy and forward driving.

Since around the release of Planetary Assault Systems' The Messenger LP, the No Exit and Future Modular EPs, P.A.S. overseer Luke Slater has made a solid case for being one of the few techno producers who has defined the genre's past and will continue to define its future. While he has spread his allegiances across a number of the genre's best labels, his own Mote Evolver label is, understandably, a source of the most compelling work from the man: the No Exit and Deep Heet Vol. 3 EPs being two of his more recent high-quality offerings. That trend seems set to continue with the release of Planetary Assault Systems' The Eyes Themselves EP.

The title track is indeed a kind of treat for the mind's eye - after a convetional rhythmic leadin, Slater gets down to business and unveils a few layers of crisp and captivating sound design. Irregular droplets of high-frequency sound fade in and then seem to fall around the listener like glowing rain on the surface of a distant planet, before receding and making way for more subtle phrases. All the while, fluctuations in the aggressiveness and persistence of the cymbal tracks fight to wrest the listener's attention away from this mesmerizing rain, making for an intriguing push-pull effect.

Elsewhere, it is a sign of Slater's strength that a track named for a well-known concept within dynamical systems ("Strange Attractor") doesn't come across as a completely arbitrary guess at what such a concept might 'sound' like. A number of lightly accented, quickly decaying micro-sounds come together here to become more than the sum of their parts, certainly connoting dynamism and at the very least keeping up a servicable spaced-out
groove.

Now, for those who prefer the grit and tension of urban reality to dancing numbers or speculation on other worlds, have no fear - the closing "Arc" is powered along by dirty filtered phrases, a faintly menacing shaker sample and the occasional impolite release of steam from the grating beneath your feet. It gives one the uneasy feeling of stalking in the shoes of a professional assassin, and it wouldn't be out of place in some documentary film on the same.

Few sonic artists can go from an atmosphere of oneiric wonder to one of cold intensity in just a few short steps, let alone doing this in a techno music genre that has little margin for error when it comes to conjuring atmospheres. As such, The Eyes Themselves once again demonstrates Slater's lasting contribution to techno: maintaining its reputation as a tool for stimulating both intellectual and physical energy, for aiding restless peregrinations of thought and for giving the body its freedom.

Matrixxman has been a Dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. The San Francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for Dekmantel Records. Over the course of three EP’s (Rhythm, Acid, Polyphony), Charles McCloud Duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. The concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation.

The first scheduled EP is called “Sector I: Rhythm” and is, obviously, an exercise in rhythm. Just because a track is entirely composed of drums does not mean it has to be lifeless or devoid of feeling. Given the right approach, drums can be symphonic and even tell an exciting tale in their own right. The four-tracker serves up classic rhythms tracks and is a party from the crust to the run-out, checking off Plastikmanesque styles with ‘Process’ and proper Spartan rhythmic patterns on ‘Mainframes 2.0’. Matrixxman never overstuffs his tracks, ‘Glyph’ being the perfect example of a flanging and spacious rhythmic rundown. ‘Instigator’ rounds things of in style, melting layers of drum effects and bone-rattling
machine rhythm.

Ben Sims’ Symbolism Ltd imprint opens its 2020 account with the four-track ‘Nunchi EP’ from Shelter resident, Juan Sanchez.

Dropping mid-May, ‘Nunchi’ sees the Format Records boss continue to indulge his love of the sort of stripped-down, powerful dance-floor techno which has won him support from the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Luke Slater and Oscar Mulero.

Across ‘Nunchi’ Sanchez creates grooves engaging enough to carry unhurried, hypnotic arrangements with maximum energy. From the titular opener’s nifty use of enveloping to unleash (and tame) its main riff to the more layered approach of ‘Manja’, Sanchez is firmly in control of tension here. The density of elements is notched up in the tearing ‘Massenzusammenstoß’ (translated: ‘massive pile-up’) before the altogether sparser ‘LAB04’ closes out the EP with subtle, spaced-out melodies and a gloriously erratic bit of classic stab action.

Digital-only cut 'Signs' closes out the 'Nunchi EP' with some high-tech, jazz-inflected deepness of the finest order.
