MN2S Label Group 19/10/15

Released in 1979, the acclaimed Walter Hill’s action thriller “The Warriors”, based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name, keeps inspiring the younger generations. In the most recent case, Varese-based Samuele De Santis decided to step a little bit away from his House Music heavily influenced sonority and rush to his workstation after watching the movie and bring to life a mix of four glitchy/overdriven/crunchy/uptempo originals. For the remix duties, Panko (U're Guay Records) and we.amps (SXDNS285) brought their respective influences to enrich even more the independent release.

“I think the new warriors are us: People trying to express themselves through different art forms, specifically in my case through music”, said De Santis, who spared no efforts to deliver a compelling EP as a modern tribute to the cult classic.

Premiered here, “Electric Eliminators” – the opening theme named after one of the gangs depicted in the film –, is a 130-BPM nervous & frenzied cut that would fit perfectly in the OST of a remake of such a cinematographic masterpiece to bring the necessary menacing atmosphere for a chasing scene.

DJ, producer, songwriter, musician and label boss Omid Nourizadeh, also known as Omid 16B, has forged a unique and prolific career as one of the world’s most talented and respected producers with over 20 years contributing to the scene. Growing up in London, with Persian roots, he’s highly regarded as a pioneer of the tech house movement back in the early nineties, alongside Carl Craig, Craig Richards, Mr C, Steve Bug and Francois K. Omid has released on labels such as Eye Q, Hooj Choons, Stomp/EQ, Yoshitoshi, Ministry Of Sound, Deconstruction, Tsuba and Bedrock, as well as his own labels aLOLa and SexOnWax Recordings. Hi impressive portfolio of music boasts 5 albums, including his hugely acclaimed debut 'Sounds From Another Room’ (1998), 'How To Live 100 Years' (2002), the two-part ‘Like 3 Ears & 1 Eye' (2007), ‘Silenciety’ (2019), and ’SunTzu’ (2020). His collaboration and remixes credits include artists Lana Del Rey, Morel, The Cure, Danny Howells, Steve Lawler , Groove Armada, Depeche Mode, Prince, Deep Dish, and more. Having played at some of the best global festivals including Snowbombing, MTVFestival, SW4, DJmag’s 20th Anniversary show at Space Ibiza, Bestival and the Space Closing party, Omid continues to follow his individual creative path, taking his unique sounds from his London studio to the global stage. Exclusive: Charles Webster - I Wonder Why (Charles Webster's 'Still Wondering' Mix)

Two years after the release of Charles Webster's album Decision Time, which was praised equally by critics and musicians, the British artist delivers three new mixes for one of the album's stand-out tracks I Wonder Why. Besides Atjazz taking on remix duties, and a musical approach from Nowism, Charles himself reworked the track to give it an even darker note accentuating the track's message by going without a continuous bass line and emphasizing on sounds, which perfectly go with the spoken vocals. Webster proves once again that you can create House music without its ordinary features and basically approves what the press already said: "There's almost no House music here, though it still runs as a hidden pulse through the record."

Tim Green, as well as being a Cocoon regular, is boss of his own Disc Over Music label and has long been an assured producer of rugged grooves and club slaying synth lines. This summer he has had another busy one playing guest DJ slots all over the world and has seen support for his recent remixes of Kidnap Kid and MANDY. Now winter is coming, we are treated to more original magic from his studio.

Excellent opener ‘Empire’ is a tripped out tech growler with firmly rooted drums forming the bed off which mind bending synths slither about in lithe fashion. It makes for a mechanical groove but with those fluid synths is truly compelling and absorbing. Subtle details such as whirring space ship sounds, ditty bass stabs and colourful pad explosions all help add charm to the track, which is sure to standout on any floor.

‘Overstance’ is a more spiritual track that is doused in glowing angelic pads as well crafted synth lines rise up the sale and take you with them. The rubbery drums bubble and boil below and voices scurrying about in paranoid fashion to add to the overall impact.

It is another cultured club cut that rounds out a tight two track EP and a pitch perfect summer for the ever reliable Green.
