The echoes of reggae music still resonate today since it was played in its native Jamaica as folk music celebrating their independence from Britain in the early 1960s. That same echo is also trying to be captured and immortalized by Mote Soundsystem, a dub trio from Surabaya that have just released an EP titled Voyager on April 28, 2023.

Voyager is their experimentation of dub elements consisting of 2 original tracks, Straight Inna Backyard and Sailing de Streets as well as 2 dub mix tracks, Dub Inna Backyard and Sailor Dub which were executed by Mote Soundsystem themselves. Track production starting from recording, mixing & mastering is done at Mustika Records and Mote Studio Surabaya.

Mote Soundsystem formed in 2020 as a live PA performance consisting of Arsyad as DJ and Glaop as well as Iddo as MC and effector. Playing Jamaican roots music such as Dub, Reggae, Rocksteady and Lovers Rock combined with live toasting and effects makes every Mote Soundsystem performance a surprising one. After 3 years running, they decided to bring the excitement on the stage into the studio and recorded it inna Mote Soundsystem own style. Voyager EP is ready to make your day feeling irie.

Setelah kolaborasi pertamanya yang bertajuk Merusak Kesenangan, Mote Soundsystem kembali berkolaborasi secara resmi dengan unit punk asal Bandung, Dongker, melalui perilisan single remix terbaru mereka yang berjudul Sepenggal Sadar.

Dalam versi remix ini, Mote Soundsystem menyuguhkan aransemen dengan pendekatan reggae dub version yang lebih tenang, atmosferik, dan penuh eksplorasi sonik. Berbeda dari sentuhan classic reggae pada remix sebelumnya, kali ini Mote memodifikasi Soundscape-nya dengan produksi digital yang lebih megah dan modern, menjadikannya sebagai bentuk perkembangan kreatif dalam perjalanan remix mereka.

Yang membuat proyek ini terasa lebih spesial adalah keterlibatan langsung vokalis Dongker, Arno, yang melakukan pengambilan vokal ulang khusus untuk versi remix ini. Upaya ini merupakan bagian dari eksperimen yang menyilangkan karakter vokal khas band punk dengan nuansa reggae dub, sebuah bentuk pertemuan artistik yang berani antara dua genre musik yang berbeda.
