The room was a decadent delight. Upon entry the smells of radiant sandalwood and oak were almost assertive, yet humble in their welcome. In the corner sat an armchair, it was placed so as to allow for a delicate gaze downward towards the garden below. It was there for watching...

Music echoed softly from vintage speakers which sat in each corner of the room and in the middle of the parlour sat a magazine rack equipped with fine reading for the sophisticated hobbyist. The lighting was dim and glowed with a rich warmth which might lead you to recline or ease one self into the evening with a short cocktail.

This was a total interior - the type one might only dream to indulge within.

3 QUESTIONS to BONJOUR BEN

Q: Talking about your mix. Your roots are full of atmospheres, pads, not the usual 4/4 beat. What made this music so interesting for you?

A: Thank you. HOW I MET THE BASS was the reason to try something new from the technical side of mixing. It was a lot of fun because it was the first time ever I recorded a mix with 3 different medias. I checked my first electronic tracks in my iTunes playlist, which vinyl records I ordered on decks.de or discogs.com and which fitting CD may be around too. Then I was surprised that most of my music collection was really melancholic and calm. No Techno, no Minimal, no Tech-House - even more Ambient, Electronica and Deep House.

Q: You´re from the northern part of Germany. How did you get in touch with the club scene once and how does it still feel for you?

A: My first experiences in clubbing in my hometown Rostock have been at MS Stubnitz, the good old JAZ and the "Machbar" events. My first gig ever was in Rostock (Club Zwischenbau) and the first events I was involved in as promoter was with the Meerblick Kollektiv. A huge experience that I won´t miss and makes me smile when I remember the good old times. On the other hand I´m living and working here for 11 years now, that has a big impact on my daily doings. And there is a lot of good things going on here. On the other hand I´m really critical with the area around here. Our world is big, colored and nice, we should never forget about that, doesnt matter where you live.

Q: Which future projects and releases are coming soon?

A: Besides having upcoming gigs in Tenerifa, Hamburg, Berlin and recording podcasts for different blogs I´m going to focus on becoming a more professional artist. That means becoming part of a label and an agency as all my recent things have been done on my own. On one side that will give you a lot of freedom and you´re always in direct touch with the promoters but on the other hand that becomes more and more stressful from time to time, especially when its about playing gigs outside of Germany or by having problems in handling Facebook, WhatsApp etc. I´m on the point now that I really need a helping hand and I hope that will take me further.

Hamburg’s Mireia Records deals in high grade house music that is rich in deepness and melody; to date putting out music from Christopher Rau, Conga Fever, Marcus Worgull and Lauer. Their latest offing is a delectable EP from Johannes Klingebiel; a certified jazz drummer purveying tripped out warm sounds. ‘It’s OK To Cry’ features five cuts ranging in tenderness and atmosphere, each track showing off Klingebiel’s deep musicality. Here we premiere  ‘Time Is Now,’ a slow burning yet subtly euphoric number that elevates with percolating bass and glistening, spacey keys. Teaming up for the 15th EP on Heimlich Musik, Coss and Iorie deliver Casual International located somewhere between Chinatown and the Atlantic Ocean, with Shubostar and Arutani on remix duty.

Cielo Azul is shaped by one of Iorie’s rare vocal appearances in Spanish with an organic beat underlined by dreamy guitar parts while Mu is based on a Chinese mantra supported by an intense bass line.

Arutani’s interpretation of Cielo Azul is based on an arpeggiator bass accentuated by stripped-down parts of the original. Shubostar adds some extra tension by transforming Mu into an energic Disco banger.

Casual International as a whole creates a diverse picture of musical approaches to survive this special kind of summer.

Premiere: Coss & Iorie — Mu (Original Mix) [Heimlich Musik]

Follow-up EP for Multi Culti from this Berlin duo merging sleek Krautrock influences, decades long production experience, jazz-percussion chops and funky German vocals. 

‘Kometenschweif’ will sound the most familiar to fans of Sascha Funke’s club-ready tracks, with percussive and vocal flourishes from Niklas Wandt.  ‘Kreidekreis’ takes the tempo down while ramping up the trippiness, a circular journey into funk bass, synth prog, and again, a percussion masterclass. Finally ‘Weg Vom Leder’ sounds like a lost Falco tune, brought up to date.

On the remix side, Alexander Arpeggio somehow manages to swing ‘Kreidekreis’ into a digital reggae slowburner, while Whodamanny turns Kometenschweif toward indie-kraut-wave bop.
