Featuring bands and artists from across the genres of Rock/Indie/Alternative/Shoegaze/DreamPop/PowerPop, this is my collection of Super Sad Power Anthems AKA Sad Bangers! There will be tracks on it you might already know and hopefully a few new ones to discover. I deliberately left out many legendary ballads in favour of lesser-known artists and songs.
Last year has been a tough one for sensitive souls. Nearly all of the songs on this mix deal with pain, fear, depression, insanity, loneliness, guilt, loss, self hatred and suicide but also love and acceptance. Some tracks are a shredded, distorted mess and some are quiet and pensive. Some cry loudly and cathartically (like Kevin Shields' guitar) and by recognising and so many complex and difficult feelings, raise you upwards, healing you in the process.
I am a firm believer that music can save each of us on an individual scale. Somewhere out there is a track that, upon hearing it at the right time, embraces you and leads you out of the darkness. You can only rediscover yourself and your sense of humanity when you are at your most open and fragile and if you give time to listen you are often rewarded.
I hope there's at least one track in this playlist that, if does not save you, than at least provides you with comfort, reassurance and empathy. We might all act like emotional dickheads most of the time but please remember if you're feeling sad and depressed that I too feel how you feel. And that's where I'd like for us us to meet x
