"When we approached this mix we decided right away that it should reflect the fun and exciting time of the year that Christmas is. A mix you can wrap presents to or get down and sweaty to in the early hours. In essence, it is a bunch of tracks that got us excited when we first started out DJing, alongside some of our favourites from the last few months out and about in the clubs. We have thrown in a few of our own tracks / edits and there are a couple of exclusives too, and maybe the odd sleigh bell for good measure! Merry Christmas one and all!"

With numerous remixes under their belt, Pete Devereux and Tom Devos aka DEVolution now make their debut on Mistajam's Speakerbox imprint with the Transition EP. Revelation of Sound continues the podcast series with the underground artist from the Netherlands. 
Deep Filip’s love for electronic music started during the summer of 2010 after attending one of the biggest dance festivals in Holland. Many techno festivals and parties later, in 2012 he decided it was time to get to the other side of the dance table. 
It was at the same time Filip decided to travel the world and the newly bought DJ equipment had to patiently wait for over a year or so, when in the summer of 2013 traveling came to an end and the turning tables got out of the closet again. 
From techno to tech house, deep house or more progressive tunes, over the years many great artists have inspired Deep Filip. Pioneers and techno legends like Adam Beyer, but also young producers like Nicolas Jaar or Tale of Us, who are shaping the dance scene into surreal sounds. 
A combination of deep bass lines, uplifting hi-hats, ethereal synthesizer sounds define the tunes Deep Filip currently enjoys playing.

DHM:
Tell us a little about yourself. How did you start your career?

Deep Spelle:
I started to DJ in 2002. Back then i was playing mostly records. Music became stronger in me and i decided to start producing. I then had the chance to sign on few labels runned by artists i liked a lot. The Messenger for example. They signed my first productions back in 2010.

DHM: 
Why did you move from Paris to Montreal?

Deep Spelle:
It was mostly because my father who moved from France to Canada. I decided to follow him when i was 12 years old.

DHM:
Tell us about your nickname, why - Deep Spelle?

Deep Spelle:
Well, Deep House was and still is my favorite style. Spelle is my family name and i wanted to associate it with my artist name. It also has to do something with a « spell ». A deep spell for example. So i picked it up from there.

DHM:
You have a unique ability to make hypnotic music, how do you do it?

Deep Spelle:
It’s a lot of work. When im in the studio i try to be as creative as i can. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Its a question of feeling. I usually make a lot of song starters/ideas and put it aside. If everything flows nicely, i can finish a track in about 2 weeks. Other times it can be a slow process before i get what i want. I also try to follow my inspiration which means doing what i have in my head at the moment im thinking of it. It can be an idea or just a single sound or pattern.

DHM:
What brings music to your life?

Deep Spelle:
Music is essential to me in every sense. To me it’s way more than just music. Its a whole philosophy, a way of life.

DHM:
Who among today's DJs and musicians of world renown is the undisputed authority for you?

Deep Spelle:
There are many that i respect for their music. It’s a hard choice to just shoot a name like that. Kevin Yost and Gorge are for sure a reference for me but recently i have been really amazed by - EL Mundo.

DHM:
Your attitude to the format? What do you prefer released - on vinyl, digitally or not important?

Deep Spelle:
Today i cherish the vinyl release. It is the best sound on the market and it has its unique approach to it. I give much more credit to labels that do vinyles. 

DHM:
Can you share some creative plans for 2016?

Deep Spelle:
In 2016 im aiming some labels to sign with so i will be making a lot of music.

DHM:
How do you feel about criticism?

Deep Spelle:
It is important to see what people think of your music. Even if it sometimes can be hard to hear.. My brother « Maske » hears everything i produce way before it gets released and we have a bit of a different taste. So he destroys me sometimes.. But i take it and it ends up been helpful.

DHM:
What do you do in your spare time? Maybe you have a favorite hobby?

Deep Spelle:
When i can’t find my inspiration or finished a long session i love to watch movies or play video games.. It takes me completely out of music making and its good. Otherwise i love to grab my bag full of vinyles and go spin at some friends place.

DHM:
To us, Cyclic Records is a guarantee of quality. What about for You?

Deep Spelle:
I love Cyclic Records.

DHM:
And the last question. In 2016, will you be working more with  Mihai Popoviciu?

Deep Spelle:
Mihai - is a huge part of my inspiration and I had the chance to have him in Montreal recently as we played together for a Cyclic night. We spent a couple hours in the studio and i would say we get along well. It’s a pleasure to work with him and I will probably do more for his label.

Berlin based DJ/Producer and label owner Nhan Solo set off on his mission for dominance of the House music scene in 2012, and in the 4 years that have followed, his enterprise Mother Recordings has provided the perfect haven for him and like-minded musicians to showcase their talents. It ́s a healthy bunch of friends, artists and creative heads. Their individual life stories and experiences help to shape a very personal vision of contemporary House music, that received instant positive feedback from the first release on.

An artist who’s talent, vision, and enthusiasm for everything dance related is instantly recognisable upon introduction. Nhan’s personality is infectious and it is no surprise that such esteemed artists as Daniel Dexter, Audiojack, Kevin Knapp, Purple Disco Machine or The Revenge were instantly keen to work with his label from the moment it came about. His personal continuous musical output can or will be found on labels such as Andre Crom  ́s OFF Recordings, Solomon ́s 2DIY4 and of course Mother Recordings. His tracks also have been remixed by respectable members of the scene like Monkey Safari, Ian Pooley, Oliver Dollar, Martin Dawson Kiki, Spencer Parker, Adriatique - just to name a few.

His DJ career took off in a big way in 2013 with European gigs with almost weekly occurrence and sold out South American tours in Brazil, Columbia, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Panama, El Salvador on the agenda. His production talent was also beginning to shine through on a more recognisable scale from a Beatport prospective. 3 Top 10 Deep House tracks ‘Easy’, ‘Friends’ and ‘Tell You’ drawing wide acclaim from everybody within earshot, with high profile support from such top talent as Solomun, Claptone, Soul Clap, Dyed Soundorom, Maya Jane Coles, Adana Twins, Tensnake and more...

The following year, Nhan continued his upward rise through the industry with high profile collaborations with Hip Hop legend Kurtis Blow, dutch ́s finest Stee Downes and the amazing Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Cari Golden. Busy times indeed from Nhan but as he pointedly explained “He believes that everything must be done with passion and a true sense of sincerity. And I ́ve got plenty of both to go around! :)” The world was his for the taking!


2016 has been a year where Mother have found the Top 10 with every Ep that they have released. With 6 Eps in the Top 100 at one time, it’s clear that this power label is here for the long-term! To date they already have 3 Beatport Deep House #1 hits from Mat.Joe, David Keno and Superlover, were also Beatport Breakthrough Label for 2015, Beatport Label Deep House #3 for 2016. A whole host of Showcases have been huge successes in places such as London DJ Mag, Barcelona (Sonar), Berlin, Zurich, Montanita, Amsterdam (ADE) and Playa Del Carmen. Mother Recordings and Nhan’s story has a lot more chapters ready to be scripted over the coming months and years! :)
