Running one of the most prolific YouTube channels for straight up house blends I don’t think I know another channel to be so consistent on pushing out a sound time and time again.

Batumi-born, Berlin-based DJ/Producer Nicole has been instrumental in the evolution of Tbilisi’s role as axis for music and politics. Her earliest ventures in sonic creation saw her attend music school as a child and drum in a band, followed by a pivot into electronic music as half of teenage duo Body Thrills. It was 2018 that she truly emerged solo as a talent to watch on the Georgian scene, with a Boiler Room performance at Bassiani to celebrate its reopening following civilian protests against the government’s shutdown of cultural spaces. And with the threat of authoritarian ideology looming once more, her kind of energy is perhaps more important than ever. Nicole’s sound represents the best of what Georgia has to offer, a free and open enthusiasm for life where creativity reigns and anything is possible. Witty minimal with a generous measure of acid squelches and positive funk, these tunes are a mirror to the dancefloors she plays on. Her strength is in knowing her audience, which strings to pull and when, and that’s just as true of her other work, which now counts promotion duties at Tbilisi space Cafe Gallery and an EP on Marco Shuttle’s Eerie Records. This latest episode carries Tbilisi’s flame forward, a six-hour compilation that brings together her unique perspective as native to the city’s struggle, and her disparate musical references. Today we launch a mix series that has been in our heads for many years. What a better way to do so than with a friend who holds a special place in our hearts : International Mac.

Mac is a rare kind of DJ whose style never stopped to evolve and to explore, while always remaining true to himself. He is a touching, sensitive, generous, quirky soul who always pours his personality, his intelligence and his feelings into the music. Our existences are bound up to his, being at the core of a group of friends who welcomed us both in Berlin at pivotal moments of our lives. Since then, these people and this city have continually inspired us, helping us to find ourselves and thus, contributed to the very essence of tunnel.

The story behind this mix also has a full-circle feeling to it, as it came together in the most natural way, encapsulating a moment in time that holds significance for all of us. It was recorded spontaneously, in one take, last week-end in the infamous shared flat of Krausnickstraße. This happened after a session in which Mac played alone all day, while a few friends were sharing a nice time. His record bag was full of new finds from a recent dig in London as well as old re-discoveries from his own collection. His head and heart were charged with the emotions, the memories and the sonic impressions of his recent experiences, after a tumultuous year full of changes and personal growth. At the end of the day, when everybody left the room, we decided to start recording, feeling that something was about to happen…

Occasionally, Mac wears his signature purple velvet trousers and reveals the weirdo wizard facet of his personality. Here, Purple Mac is taking us on a journey : hypnotic, mysterious, emotional, slightly epic but also sometimes stuck in this stationary state of hypnosis. There is also a sense of madness and absurd that emanates throughout the trip. The atmosphere is sometimes contemplative, sometimes ecstatic, sometimes cheeky, others crazy, all of those moments balanced with a feeling of flow that translates a certain state of maturity…

From the timing in Mac’s personal life, to the moment in our friendships, and to the music selection itself, there is a mystical sense of evidence that runs behind this mix, which is probably what makes it such a special one for us.

Thanks to Mac for sharing a piece of himself in the shape of this hypnotic tunnel. We’re already obsessed by it and we hope you will be too!

Caswell Vera, french DJ from Montpellier and living in Marseille, is a known artist playing on the south electronic scene of France since 2010. His selection is house oriented, groovy rich, (C) as well as sublte and refined. It reflects a various pallet of styles and influences, always heading to the dancefloor.
We're really pleased to welcome him in our series, with a live recorded mix, blending house, electro and minimal, with some french touch textures in the first part.

Around 15 years ago I started digging and collecting records.

I became obsessed with mixing them together and crafting my own sound.

Sharing with like minded people became the next logical step. (It started in Nantes, France, then the journey continued in Mexico, Brazil as well as Colombia and now a new chapter arises in Tarifa)
