UK born, South Africa based producer Jumping Back Slash kicks off new London based record label CLUB YEKE with 7 track EP “ANIMALS”.

The label aims to present the most innovative and exciting underground electronic sounds, from the African Diaspora, via the Caribbean, Latin America, the UK and beyond. ANIMALS offers a new exploration into global club with a hard hitting statement of intent.

This 7 track musical journey through jungles, forests, and savannahs explores the brutality and beauty of wildlife,.Featuring collaborations with the Lesotho Shepherd poet Morena Leraba, bringing his native Famo style singing, rapping and poetry to tracks “ Tsemedi” and “Mantlapa en Litsiroane”.

Speaking about the forthcoming EP, JBS shared: “I wanted to make a record that felt like a dream in a jungle. A little psychedelic and connected to myths. I wanted it to feel like the end of ‘Apocalypse Now'. Nature reclaiming our houses, people receding into the trees. Surrounded by animals.”

The earthshaking BLUNT BLADES is the first single taken from ANIMALS, mixing gqom rhythms with a raw grime energy, just an example of how Jumping Back Slash infuses the styles and genres that influence him throughout the release.

This track talks about the Angolan Civil War in 93’, specifically in Huambo (South of Angola). His mom and wife were refugees from South of Angola, and they struggled to survive and escape alive at that time. This music starts in the war zone, when MPLA fights UNITA outside of the city in an attempt to earn more enemy room. 

After this part, you listen to a man talk about killings, hunger, misery and the actual situation. 

The third part of the song is when the war arrives in his wife's village and the local people start to scream because someone dropped a bomb on a building full on chidren. His purpose with this song is to remind us about these tragic moments, to never happen again.

Born Pedro Cardoso, DJ N.K natural from Lisbon, son of a Portuguese father and Angolan Mother is one of the historical Afro-Music producers who reside in the periphery of the Portuguese capital. 

His musical repertoire, specifically his collaborations alongside DJ Marfox and DJ Nervoso in the DJs Di Ghetto Mixtape, has influenced a generation of new music creators in the scene of the Afro-Portuguese Dance Music.
