The work of Mouches Volantes can really be split into two kinds of music. The first kind is beat orientated and consists of layered rhythms. The second kind is sample orientated; we use recordings of the world around us (our city, our workplace, the movies we watch etc.) and turn them into a piece. The first kind we call "Beat collage" and the second kind is in fact "Musique Concrète". That's right; we use the same principles as the French "Musique Concrète" movement from the 50's and 60's. But of course with contemporary sounds and techniques. 

Sound is a traveling wave.

This piece was inspired by a work by Man Ray called "L'enigme d'Isodore Ducasse". 

<i>"L’Enigme d’Isidore Ducasse (1920) consists of a sewing machine, wrapped in a blanket and tied with string. Man Ray’s idea of using a sewing machine was inspired by a simile used by the French writer, Isidore Ducasse (1809-87), better known as the Comte de Lautréamont, ‘Beautiful as the accidental encounter, on a dissecting table, of a sewing machine and an umbrella’. (...) Man Ray’s wrapped object, however, was a mystery, and suggested not so much a sewing machine as some utterly undefined, and therefore potentially more disturbing, presence."</i>

<b>Mouches Volantes</b> is a soundscape and beat collage duo from The Hague consisting of Thijs Geritz (<a href="http://soundcloud.com/einzelganger" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Einzelganger</a>) and Wouter Blok (<a href="http://soundcloud.com/muinebheag" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Muine Bheag</a>), two graphic designers that ventured into the world of sound in 2007. They produce electronic sound and video art and organize the KERNEL PANIC performance series. Their live appearances range between relaxing drones, unsettling soundscapes, harmonics and danceable beats.

Past performances include the Gogbot Festival, Kernel Panic, Antilounge and Plein Open.
