I don’t know why I but I think song would be perfect for the opening sequence of an artistic zombie movie. It’s really groovy!!

This track feels lived in, not just a performance, but something real that’s been carried for years 🧥 you can feel the weight of the lyrics, like the walls of Holland Road still hold the echoes of voices trying to make sense of it all 🌫️ the vocals are raw in the right places, and the whole soundscape walks that line between delicate and grounded, like you’re standing in the cold with one boot in the past and one in the present 🧂 The salt grinder spun once and whispered, “this feels like seasoning from another lifetime, still sharp, still lingering” 🧃 The juice press tilted gently and said, “this ache is laced with poetry, I taste history in every line” 🧊 The ice dispenser closed his flap and murmured, “it’s cold in this memory, but it never loses its warmth” A stunning, soulful piece, full of heart, full of ghosts, and absolutely unforgettable 🖤

This is just a damn good song, it inexplicable even makes me smell London in winter.

Love the song  & especially the lyrics, takes me on a journey. 🎶

With this vivid song, we have the impression of seeing this life in the London of the 70s. You open up a window into space and time. Thank you for this rich experience, my friends.

This was one of those songs that was inspired by something Hans wrote,  prompting an idea of the movement of water representing the melding of musical ideas.

Whilst we were working on “Release The Ashes”, he sent me a working arrangement in an email, signing off with the words "Love from The Elbe to The Thames”.  Friends and family often say things that spark song ideas and this poetic  greeting stuck in my mind.

I looked at a map that showed The Elbe flowing into The North Sea and The Thames into the Estuary a little to the south and imagined the two bodies of water flowing toward each other, intertwining back and forth, much as the song ideas between Hans, Gary and myself are inclined to do when we’re working on something.

So I have to thank Hans on two counts, both for bringing the idea to mind and also for the arrangement he created, which to me is very special.  Hope you do too.  Many thanks for listening.

I arrived in London in early ‘71 and landed on the Holland Road, Shepherd’s Bush not long after.
My good pal Julie Lewis (from Durham) with whom I’d worked with in Sydney, had digs there and invited me to stay. Nonetheless I found it a challenging place to be after Sydney, Summer, beaches, family and gigs. Amongst Julie’s record collection was Nick Drake’s 'Bryter Later' which brought solace to me as I often felt very alone and completely at a loss as to how to navigate London town.

Years later I was to learn that Freddie Mercury was living just a few doors down from us on the Holland Road...no I never knew him...but when I wrote the lyric it seemed apt to pay homage to Freddie and our collective dreams. I’m so happy with Cripple Club’s interpretation of the lyrics, bringing to life a musical collage that depicts the highs and lows of living on the Holland Road through my first cold winter! From my heart; thank you Terry & Gary Reeves; you are two soulful & gifted brothers; I feel so indebted to you both and to Hans Albers for his powerful musical contributions. This song began with Ken's oldest son, Jack, who laid down the basic rhythmic beat. Ken took over after that with the rest of the beats, though. Jack just graduated high school last week, and he's into hip hop and trap music, so he wanted to share some of it with his musician father, who is very proud of him.
  Tez was first up on this one, which surprised me when I went back and checked the workflow. He added the perfectly placed guitar hits throughout. Josh was next up, using his synth to add the falling bass line. Last, but not least, Terry came aboard, adding the moody, melodic, high register synth.
  When it was all finished, we asked out resident pro mixer, Stephen, to mix it for us. 
  This song was in its current form for about the past eight months. It was originally part of a series of vehicles Eclectic Collective composed for The Mysterious Decibel. He got caught up in life, though, and had to abandon the project. So, we sat on it, asking all the rappers we know if they'd be interested in having a go with it, but no one bit. So, with Jack's recent graduation, Ken revived it as a celebratory song for his son. It could still use some vocals, too, so think of this as an open invitation to anyone who want to do the honors. 
  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it. 
  Oh, and just a side note for all of our friends who follow along with us, we won't be releasing a song this coming Friday, the 4th, but will have  new one for you, the following Friday, the 11th. Thank you for keeping up with us!
