a few years back a group of guys that have collaborated for years on various projects got together to attempt a "supergroup".  ha ha.

it was for the most part grossly unproductive.

however this little gem deserves to see at least a glimmer of the light of day.

“Anticipate the sky” is the brainchild of Scott Maynard which became a song by musical project “Surface Room” and recorded in a living room over the course of a couple of nights in 2002.  It’s about not being able to be near someone you love.  “She” is the moon and “he” is the sun.  They want to be together but circumstances outside of their control prevent it.  Their tears are the rain. 

Surface Room was Jamin Finlaw, Scott Maynard, Rob Winder, and Jesse Henson.

An old demo version of lackluster from a previous band to gloribox.  circa 2002.  it's much slower than the gloribox version, but fairly decent given the experience level and equipment used.

devilish sunlight is a song about loving a good rainy day.

lyrics:

as i walked out into the bright sunlight
the only thing that hit me in my eyes was the deepest pain
right through to my brain
a revelation

as i woke up this morning, as usual, my head ached.  it bordered on critical.
i thought to myself, "i just cannot face the sun."
then i heard the rain as it fell on the skylight that usually lets in that devilish sunlight and immediately, the pain...it started to subside.

the only thing that makes me feel better is dreary weather.  it eases my pain.  where i come from, it ain't easy, babe.

some may call me a fool for thinking these things like i do.  but i assure you that it's not a sin.  they've not been where i've been.   and they've never met my friends the clouds.  

they are my new blanket.  they cover me and keep out the demons.  and now i feel better than i've felt in days.

because the only thing that makes me feel better is the dreary weather.  it eases my pain.  where i come fro  it ain't easy, babe.



this song was recorded in my bedroom on a 4 track app called take.  it is a guitar and vocals, then 3 other vocal tracks, including my wife lending her beautiful voice to harmonize with me.


fun fact:

the first line of the lyrics is an ode to the outsiders by S.E. Hinton, one of my favorite books.  

The book begins:

“When I stepped out into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home...”

mourning thieves is the brainchild of singer, songwriter and musician jesse henson.  

henson has been involved with many bands and projects over the years including gloribox and french canadians where he was lead singer, guitarist, and a songwriter.  songs from those projects, as well as a few demos for his personal project "mourning thieves" appear here.
