In this episode of Movember Radio, we chat to Andy Puddicombe, a meditation and mindfulness expert and founder of the hugely popular mindfulness app “Headspace”. In 2013, Andy was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Mindfulness has helped him to cope with the physical, emotional and mental impact of the illness. Prior to this, Andy undertook a ten-year journey, which took him around the world, culminating with ordination as a Tibetan Buddhist monk in Northern India.

In this episode of Movember Radio, we chat to Kieran Ryan, a passionate Mo Bro from Stawell, Australia who first got involved with Movember in 2009 when he was 21 years old, after losing two close mates to suicide. Kieran has been a champion for men’s health, running 100km for Movember back in 2012 and his team helped raise more than $50,000 over seven years.  Kieran then went on to trek the Kokoda Trail with Mo Bro Ambassador and Paralympian Kurt Fearnley for the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC Day in 2014.  Kieran now works for the Movember Foundation development team.

Justin Baldoni, actor, director, filmmaker and star of hit TV show “Jane the Virgin” where he also happens to play a new dad similar to his role in real life. He’s also joined by Stuart Holden, Sports Commentator who recently retired from professional soccer having played for the Bolton Wanderers, Houston Dynamo and the US National Team.

We talk to Mo Bro Justin Geange who shares his own personal experience of suicide and the challenges he faced in not being able to speak out about what he was going through when he lost his job back in 2013. Justin has since passionately advocated the importance of talking about men’s health and particularly mental health.

We talk to Mo Bro Allan Sparkes CV, a decorated police officer and one of only five Australian heroes to be awarded the highest bravery decoration, the Cross of Valour. Through Al’s service he developed chronic post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and associated chronic depression and became suicidal. He spent a lot of time recovering from these illnesses. Al has been an ambassador for beyondblue and Soldier On for the past three years and regularly speaks about suicide and mental health. His Twitter handle is @allansparkes.
