This track is an ambient pop tune featuring cymbals used in Buddhist ceremonies. These cymbals are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and are commonly played not only in Japan but also in Buddhist countries such as Tibet, India, Nepal, and China. In Japan, this familiar timbre is played not only in Buddhism ceremonies but also in Shinto dance (Kagura). The respected musician Haruomi Hosono has long been a believer in the paradise called "Shangri-La," said to be deep within the Himalayas, and referred to the beat leading to that mysterious land as the "Chunky Sound." The "Chunky Sound" is a beat unique to Asia, found not only in Japan but also in Okinawa, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Java Island, India, and Tibet. I've been intrigued by this beat for a long time. I'm not sure if I've managed to capture that groove in this track, but I hope you'll give it a listen. Pls enjoy!!
