Kiko & POPOF link for a high-impact debut on Watergate.

The talented French artists both have a discography that goes back to the ‘90s. Kiko a veteran of 500+ releases, highlighted by his 1998 cut ‘World Cup’ that was continued a minor techno classic at the time. He’s gone through many sonic incarnations since then and is currently turning heads with superb production on labels including Diynamic and Afterlife. POPOF, meanwhile, is a genre flexitarian, just as adept at releasing on Cocoon and Truesoul as he is Hot Creations, and now of course – Watergate Records. 

‘Night Sky’ is a big, bright dancefloor pummeller, made for peak-time moments and driven by a stirring chord sequence. ‘Love Triangle’ is a shimmering nu disco beauty, propelled by a sharp tech underbelly. Fresh from her much-loved ‘Raver Girl’ EP, Yulia Niko contributes a slick re-rub of the title track, retaining the original’s glistening melodic lead, while giving it a punchier bottom end. Rounding out the package strongly, rising UK duo Mia Mendi give ‘Love Triangle’ the remix touch, re-fashioning it into a sublime breakbeat gem made for early morning on the Waterfloor.

8th May sees prestigious DJ/producer UMEK release his first single on POPOF’s revered FORM Music imprint, entitled ‘Shadow Tactics’ - featuring remixes from label boss POPOF himself, as well as Wow! Recordings’ head honcho, Mar-T.  

Since his first release in 1993, UMEK has established himself as one of Slovenia’s finest electronic exports, boasting a back-catalogue of projects that most DJs would dream of, releasing on labels such as Toolroom, Tronic, Intec Digital, his very own 1605 plus many more, constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries of Dance music throughout his career.

The Slovenian kicks the release off with the title-named track, ‘Shadow Tactics’, a pounding Techno come Drum and Bass workout that combines breakbeat elements with an uncompromising four-to-the-floor rhythm packed with sharp synths and other industrial effects.

POPOF’s edit of ‘Shadow Tactics’ follows on, seeing the Parisian add a number of squelching synths patterns, omitting the Drum and Bass elements for a headstrong six-minute Techno track.

Closing this excellent three-track package is Mar-T’s remix of ‘Shadow Tactics’, transforming the track into a pulsating Tech-House offering packed with tight drums and crisp percussive elements. 

‘Shadow Tactics’ (Inc. POPOF & Mar-T remixes) is available via Beatport on 8th May and everywhere else two weeks later.

Part 2 of the Propaganda remixes picks up where the first left off. Gathering together some of the finest talent in contemporary techno, Oliver Huntemann’s killer LP from late 2017 gets more new reworks and remixes.

'Momentum' is flipped by the ever dependable André Winter, who’s deep and groovy interpretation brings new textures to the orignal and will delight fans of his previous work.

Fur Coat, the producer duo originally from Venezuela and now based in Barcelona, bring their own specific flavour to one of the album highlights, 'Egoist'. Their remix is a stripped down driving techno cut with a deeply acidic undertone.

Olivier Giacomotto, the techno producer from Bordeaux, France, provides a electro infused rework of 'Vertigo', adding sharp
808 patterns, a thick cut groove, and eventually some deep pads to his version.

'Malaria' gets the treatment by SHADED who drops his Dark Stab mix. Skyler Patrick Taugher, the Californian behind the
SHADED moniker, brings a particularly tough mix for one of Huntemann’s key tracks - a sure fire peak time winner.

Another album highlight 'Doppelgänger' is remixed by Berlin resident and Upon You boss Marco Resmann, adding layers of
dynamic rhythym with which to counterpoint his edgy pads and deep synth touches.

'Trick17' is giving a mix by Senso regular Distale. A filthy, low roller with fathoms-deep sub bass and and sparkling percussion.

The young Russian Maksim Dark adds his own interpretation of 'Poltergeist' to the release, edging up the darkness a little
more and producing a growling, tough techno workout that will go over big on a lot of floors this year.

The man from Rostock, Carlo Ruetz, provides a slick dub of 'Der schwarze Kanal’, stripping away any superfluous sounds
and setting the controls fort he heart oft he dancefloor.
