“Warsaw Uprising” is the world’s first non-fiction war drama made entirely from documentary materials. It tells the story of the Warsaw Rising of 1944 through the eyes of two young reporters, witnesses to insurgent fighting. It uses authentic newsreels filmed in August of 1944. Applying modern technology methods of colorization and audio reconstruction and ensuring the cooperation of the best artists, the “Warsaw Uprising” has no equal. 

Six hours of original newsreel footage from the Warsaw Rising of 1944, six months of work, a team of militaria, clothing and architecture consultants, urban planners, Warsaw experts and historians, 1000 of colour editing consulting hours, 1200 shots, 1440 hours of colorizing and reconstruction, 112.000 selected frames, 648.000 minutes of reconstruction, 22.971.520 megabytes of data – these are only some numbers which help appreciate the enormous effort and means dedicated to the “Warsaw Uprising” project. The result is a 90 minute completely restored coloured and extremely touching film, which shows the Warsaw Rising with unparalleled realism.

The “Warsaw Uprising” will be released soon and the film came to be thanks to Jan Ołdakowski, Director of the Warsaw Rising Museum and Piotr Śliwowski, Head of the History Department at the Museum. Jan Komasa directed the feature. Dialogues needed for contemporary production were written by Joanna Pawluśkiewicz and Michał Sufin. Actors enlisted for the project included: Maciej Nawrocki, Michał Żurawski and Antoni Królikowski, whose voices are heard in the film. Colorizing work was supervised by a renowned Polish cameraman Piotr Sobociński Jr. Screenwriting was done collectively by Jan Ołdakowski, Piotr Śliwowski and Jan Komasa while Milenia Fiedler and Joanna Brühl served as editors. The music was composed by Bartosz Chajdecki.

American robins gather over the course of a few hours for one day between Xmas and the first week of the new year at our homesite in Glen Ellen, California. They're drawn there in huge numbers (thousands) to eat the ripe and fermented toyon berries. Then they stagger around the driveway til the sober up and fly away until the next gathering.

This recording was made w/ a homemade hydrophone at a northern Mono Lake, CA vernal pool in April, 1984. To my knowledge, this is the first example of such a recording.
