Tropicalize (mquin 04.14 mixtape)

After a three-year hiatus, I’m finally back with my first set in five years. The last one was recorded at the now-closed Rebar in Seattle, just months before the pandemic.

My sound has changed a bit since then, but it’s still unmistakably Mquin. This set weaves in nods to my Brazilian roots — a couple of Rita Lee remixes and a recent baile funk track — alongside a couple of hip hop moments amidst the house music. I’ve been clubbing since I was 12 (yes, really), and those early influences still shape my sets today.

 I hope you enjoy it — and I promise I won’t stay away so long next time.

In December, I had the pleasure of being invited back to Subtronic End for another guest mix. I was highly inspired having just gotten back from the Dirtybird campout (Dirtybird's first festival south of LA). The music there was so amazing and I've been amazed by this label ever since I started, that I decided to make an all Dirtybird mix this time.
