One year on since the release of their latest EP, “Rituals”, German flagship duo Township Rebellion returns to SVT with “혼돈 과 질서” (“Chaos and Order” in Korean). Clad in some kind of sci-fi-indebted dystopian - yet no hopeless - scenario, the twofold EP summons ambiguous visions of a world caught in limbo between technologically advanced societies bound to collapse and ambitions for a brighter future through enhanced levels of empathy and understanding that long to surface.  

First is “Chaos”, a slo-blooming roller that steadily swells towards proper club epicness as its arpeggios unfold. Tapping into 80s-laced, Moroder-friendly Italo with a train-like electro-swing for the main conductor, the cut reels out like the soundtrack to a bumpy otherworldly dream where shapes, colours and sounds entangle in a cosmogonic ballet of sorts. Flip sides and here is the steely, yoking counterpart to TR’s free-flowing opener, “Order”. Flexing its metal muscles and giving maximum room to martial kicks and AI-implemented programming, the track reels out like a brooding call-to-arms, merging thunderous echoes with a truly enslaving gridlocked groove.

2019 closes with a selection of 14 Exploited tracks that went down like a storm.

TAU is pleased to announce the return of Spanish prodigy Upercent to the label for his second EP release. The Valencia-based producer goes against the grain when it comes to creating electronic music, operating in his own zone and establishing a unique sonic fingerprint. His sound is instantly identifiable and has landed him releases with labels like Kompakt, microCastle, or Watergate. Now he’s back with the TAU family to deliver a selection of avant-garde freshness...

The EP begins with ‘Lupa Clup’, a menacing cut with a rolling rhythm at its core. Upercent gently teases in an eccentric melody that adds a lighter tone to the track and, before we know it, a fevered breakdown arrives to guide us into the booming second half.

‘Esser Conscient’ follows on with more pounding drums setting an ominous mood. A bright pad sweeps in adding an air of mystery, while Upercent gets busy with the percussion, as per usual. In the top layer a variety of keys and wind instruments stir up an emotionally-charged atmosphere before we enter the latter part of this cut, which is full of pulsating energy.

Then we have ‘Carta Oberta’ - an oscillating, rhythmic workout that will ensnare your mind within minutes. This one is pretty minimal, with considered arrangement and the kind of original percussion that Upercent has become renowned for. The track oozes character and takes you on a real journey. Inspired!

Next up is ‘Mentres Tant’ with its groaning bassline and whimsical effects. Once the beat kicks in you’ll be bopping your head uncontrollably. Again, there is just so much inventive flavour in this cut, such an original take on electronic music; there are piano keys, strange twisted vocal clips and an almighty breakdown.

For the digital crew there’s a bonus track, ‘Garba Derba’, which takes us deep into the realms of tribal drumming and undulating bass. A mes- merising female vocal adds a soulful element, while sharp piano stabs create tension. The energy builds steadily until there’s a break, allowing for time to reflect before we resume our connection with the ether...
