In the latest edition of our Local Selection series we hand over the hot seat to a good friend of Four Four and general sound head Pauly Doyle AKA Echo Potential. We've been eager to get this mix out for a while so make this your afternoon soundtrack. 

Pauly Doyle AKA Echo Potential is a Dublin based techno DJ and producer who set up the underground club night The Universe in 2019 having been involved in the scene for the best part of a decade. Prior to lockdown, he booked and welcomed guests such as, Kloves, LAG, Rene Wise, Yant, and Blasha and Allatt to bring the noise.

As well as being a talented DJ and producer, he has taken it upon himself to better the mindset and support available for those involved with the music industry. Having started his journey studying psychology, he has gone on to set up the wellbeing collective Bear in Mind, a collective who aim to raise awareness and support better wellbeing and mental health in Irish electronic music culture. Meandering between electro, UK breakbeat and house, the two boys from Germanys capital are connected not only through their shared passion in music but also a long lasting friendship. Meeting in their teenage years they’ve gone through a long journey together experiencing different genres of electronic music and thus finding what they want for their DJ sets: a proper bassline. Besides DJing @lupaal1 are part of the Berlin collective @sonntagsinstitut that is planing and promoting events on the intersection of party and politics.

This week’s Local Selection Mix comes from one of our favourite Irish DJs at the moment, Caoimhe. The thriving up and comer has provided yet another excellent trip through her record stacks, running through tribal, house, acid, techno, breaks and a whole lot more.

County Antrim native Caoimhe began her DJ career in early 2019 and quickly rose through the ranks, catching the eyes of industry tastemakers in Ireland and the UK. Caoimhe had won three major DJ competitions in quick succession including a Breezeblock event to support Octo Octa, the AVA Festivals emerging DJ competition and the Mixmag and Coors Light DJ contest.

These competitions led to Caoimhe supporting Octa Octa for Breezeblock who have been running some of Belfasts best club nights, opening up the coveted main stage at AVA Festival which is no mean feet for any DJ and lastly throwing it down at the Lab London for Mixmag.

In 2021 Caoimhe was nominated for best Irish Electronic artist in the Hot Press reader’s poll and was voted number 5 overall and at the start of 2022 joined the list of legendary NI artists like Kessler who have recorded at HÖR Berlin!

Caoimhe has a broad spanning sound that routes around house, acid and electro. The County Antrim native superbly executes long and short blends with adroitness and ferocity when needed. Caoimhe has been known to play a rather uptempo and pumping style of house music, with lots of catchy vocals, bouncy baselines and uplifting chords.

Caoimhe’s carefully selected a varied yet perfectly crafted hour of selections for her Local Selection Mix. Jolting chords, squelchy acid, syncopated drum rhythms, jacking house anthems…this mix is ticking all the right boxes, perfect for the start, middle or end of the party. Caoimhe maintains the energy with supreme poise and pulls the trigger at the pinical moments. This is your Wednesday soundtrack.

Local Selection 159: CAOIMHE

Vibrant acid tracks knead muscular electronic dance structures on Gerald Brunson's debut EP. A member of the Model 500 extended family and running Dance Sacred Records, Brunson presents a restless world that beckons forth from the underground of the Midwest, full of bouncing flair and techno passion. 

01 Hoffman's S.O.S. (Scully, Owsley, Sand) is more than a mere head nod to the alchemists participating in the League for Spiritual Discovery and The Brotherhood of Eternal Love. It induces a pristine acid trip that twists neurons about agitated filtered effects and effective rhythmic structures. Finally, it emerges into wondrous vistas of ever-expanding horizons. Blue Striped Felix worms deep into the groove with the same brawn, its components lean and unceasing. 

Over on the flip side, 2way struts a mean dance, stripping out the previous track's acid melodies into something far more focused on repetition with an electro influence shining through. This electro sound beams forward even more into a mutant funk on Morf. The synths move squeakily as if the machine got jammed into enlightenment. Unexpected beat changes flick over to a four to the floor briefly, before out of nowhere chords invite the closing moments in with an eventual melodic response to the dancing synths. 

Brunson's tracks represent a unique sound. Techno is as real as the person who experiences it, and these tracks come from an enigmatic messenger who is firmly out on a limb.

Apart from his daytime job as a classically trained composer and studied sound engineer, Dajusch has been involved in many music and film projects over the last decade, enhancing Berlin’s electronic music scene as a DJ and promoter. His own parties and extended vinyl-only sets have achieved legendary status amongst insiders.

While also staying behind the curtain mixing and mastering for renowned artists of all genres, his DJ-Sets range from high BPM banging techno to the subtle beauty of genre classics, never lacking the energy required to set any dancefloor on fire.

Being a bit of a traditionalist, the sound of his own productions is deeply connected and rooted to the pioneering sound of Detroit and Chicago. 
With Fjaak’s Spandau20 label he found the ideal homebase and was featured regularly on their past releases, with a follow up right around the corner.
